Chapter 86: Chapter 82: In a fit of anger, he got angry
Some say that life is full of ups and downs.
But the reality is it’s mostly downs...
Just as Jin Cheng Heiji had stumbled into trouble for being accused of accepting a bribe of half a million US dollars, another problem followed—one after the other. Kitano Jinghua reported to the police that Jin Cheng Heiji tried to coerce and bribe him into framing Aoyama Xiu Xin.
Once the news broke, there was an uproar at Police Headquarters.
But everyone believed it; after all, Jin Cheng Heiji harbored a grudge because Aoyama Xiu Xin had taken his position.
He had every motive to do so.
Under the influence of greed, any action seemed reasonable.
Meanwhile, the controlled Jin Cheng Heiji was clueless about this, stuck between anger and fear as he tried to convince Eguchi Nobumasa that Aoyama Xiu Xin had a motive to frame him, relaying what Kitano Jinghua had said.
"Aoyama Xiu Xin, to help Du Bian Xiuze cover up a scandal involving blackmail photos related to vote solicitation and to quickly solve the case and gain credit, coerced Kitano Jinghua into confessing by threatening and bribing him. When I realized this and wanted to investigate further, he surely set me up for bribery to eliminate me as a threat!"
Seething with emotion, Jin Cheng Heiji slammed the table and yelled, "It’s all Aoyama Xiu Xin’s conspiracy!"
You guys have all been fooled by him!
"Are you done?" Eguchi Nobumasa asked nonchalantly with arms crossed. Without waiting for a response, he flashed a contemptuous smile, "If you’re done, then let me tell you the latest news."
Jin Cheng Heiji froze, as Eguchi’s reaction was not at all what he had anticipated.
This made him realize that something unexpected had happened, causing his heart to be in turmoil.
"Just half an hour ago, the Kitano Jinghua you just mentioned pleading your innocence to me reported that you coerced and bribed him to collude in framing Police Chief Aoyama." Eguchi Nobumasa shook his head, leaning forward with both hands on the table, "Initially, I didn’t quite believe such baseless accusations, but now that you’ve spoken, it seems Kitano Jinghua was telling the truth. Chief Jin Cheng, you have been blinded by power, engaging in corruption, colluding with criminals to frame your superior, a disgrace to Police Headquarters!"
Boom!
Jin Cheng Heiji’s mind exploded, struck as if by lightning, mouth agape, speechless for a long time. Then his eyes reddened, filled with both frustration and anger.
He had tried to uncover the truth—for his cause against Aoyama Xiu Xin, and to exonerate Kitano Jinghua of charges, restoring his innocence. But he never expected that man to backstab him, his benefactor!
Had he, striving to be virtuous and do one good deed, come to such an end?
"Idiot!"
Jin Cheng Heiji cursed in his rage.
As he was about to stand up, two men, one on each side, pressed down on his shoulders and pushed him back into his seat.
"I am wrongfully accused! I have earned my stripes for Police Headquarters! I have shed blood for Police Headquarters! I want to see the Director! I want to see the Director!" Jin Cheng Heiji struggled to stand, bellowing at Eguchi Nobumasa.
Eguchi Nobumasa, wiping away the saliva that had splattered on his face, disdainfully stood up, slapped Jin Cheng Heiji across the face, grabbed his hair, and said, "Those criminals are your achievements; people like you are my achievements. However you treated those criminals, I will treat you the same; don’t think about struggling once I’ve got you, just confess honestly!"
Let’s not say that the evidence against Jin Cheng Heiji for bribery was concrete. Even if there were none, he would ensure the charges stuck. After all, having offended the powers that be, could he really be released?
Thus, they acted only when absolutely sure, and once they made their move, they would find ways to turn the situation into their achievement.
As for whether Jin Cheng Heiji was deliberately framed by someone else, what did that matter to them? A success delivered on a silver platter was not something they would refuse. Besides, Jin Cheng Heiji could hardly claim never to have been corrupt; his arrest was no injustice.
With these bureaucrat-like pretenses, every other one dragged out and shot might indeed be a bit hard done by, but skipping one and shooting the next meant surely some guilty ones would escape.
Meanwhile, in the Murderer Series Office,
"It’s no wonder that after meeting Kitano Jinghua the other day, Jin Cheng rushed to the crime scene. He definitely wanted to tamper with the evidence there, using it as a basis to plot against Deputy Director," Yoshikai Youzai said indignantly.
"It’s really true you can know someone’s face but not their heart. The Deputy Director was still defending him until just now, not realizing that he had already been preparing to frame him."
"The evil of human nature is hard to imagine; I never saw that he was that kind of person before..."
Others chimed in, echoing the thoughts; now that Jin Cheng Heiji was completely finished, they no longer needed to be cautious. Furthermore, Aoyama Xiu Xin’s recent defense of Jin Cheng Heiji’s actions had won them over, so they all took the opportunity to harshly criticize Jin Cheng Heiji to demonstrate their loyalty.
Only Takizawa Mapu remained indifferent, watching as the people flocked around the elegantly poised Aoyama Xiu Xin. Despite the beating heat, he felt a chill, his hands and feet ice cold.
Because he knew Jin Cheng Heiji well, he also believed that he had fallen into Aoyama Xiu Xin’s trap.
What was terrifying was that Aoyama Xiu Xin seemed unassuming yet struck with lethal moves, scheming against Jin Cheng Heiji and even gaining a good reputation from it.
Such people were indeed too sinister and despicable!
"Ah, well, let’s stop talking about him. The law will deal with him, and my defense was merely what a superior ought to do," Aoyama Xiu Xin interrupted, raising his hand, "Focus on your own work."
"Yes!" The group immediately dispersed, those who needed to write documents did so, and those who needed to revisit the scene did that.
Aoyama Xiu Xin also returned to his seat.
Just then, Takizawa Mapu approached.
"Is that Takizawa-kun? What’s the matter?" Aoyama Xiu Xin looked up and displayed a warm, spring-like smile.
Takizawa Mapu felt a tingle on his scalp, swallowed his saliva to suppress the unease in his heart, took a deep breath, bowed, and said, "Deputy Director, I don’t think I am quite suited for the murder investigation work. I would like to transfer to another department. What do you suggest?"
In his eyes, Aoyama Xiu Xin was like those dogs that don’t bark but bite painfully. He did not feel that, as the close friend of Jin Cheng Heiji, he would escape unscathed.
So it was better to take the hint and get out himself.
"How about the Shinjuku Police Station? I’ve worked there before; the atmosphere is quite good, so it should be quite suitable for you," Aoyama Xiu Xin enthusiastically recommended a place.
Takizawa Mapu pursed his lips, "Hi! I’ll go write the application and submit it to Police Chief Hattori immediately."
With those words, he bowed and turned to leave.
Aoyama Xiu Xin smiled slightly. If everyone was that sensible, a good-hearted person like him wouldn’t have been forced into plotting schemes and hurting others, right?
Thus, those dealt with by him should really reflect on themselves instead of just blaming and cursing him.
"Did you cook up some conspiracy?"
After work, Asai Ayumi purposely stayed behind and approached Aoyama Xiu Xin when the office had emptied, asking him.
"You’re using terms that describe villains," Aoyama Xiu Xin corrected, "More accurately, I anticipated the enemy’s moves and, with wisdom, thwarted their schemes, preserving myself to benefit the nation."
"Heh," Asai Ayumi responded with a roll of her eyes.
Was there such a thing as a righteous character forced to offer himself to his superior?
She had only seen such plots in adult films.
Aoyama Xiu Xin changed the subject, "Jin Cheng Heiji has already fallen, and Takizawa Mapu is also planning to voluntarily apply for a transfer. There will be exactly two spots open. Hurry and get Fujimoto Ryosuke and Nakamura Shinichi transferred to the Police Headquarters."
Without his own pawns, it was always confined and restrictive to operate. Had he had Fujimoto Ryosuke and Nakamura Shinichi earlier, he would have dealt with Jin Cheng Heiji long ago.
"Got it," Asai Ayumi, accustomed to being ordered around by her subordinates, replied and then turned to leave, "I’m clocking out, see you tomorrow."
"Approved, see you tomorrow."
Aoyama Xiu Xin did not head home but arranged to meet Yamakawa Ichiro. The automatic lending machines had started preparations for mass production, anticipating a launch across the entire Tokyo after the Senate elections in July.
The consumer lending market was currently dominated by Takeda Fuji and the Yamaguchi Group. Once the automatic lending machines were launched, the first impact would be on the interests of these two.
From its inception, this industry had been marred by blood and violence. Numerous bloody conflicts were expected, and even with the support of Yanchuan Xianyou, it only gave him the confidence to face Takeda Fuji and the Yamaguchi Group and did not mean he could overcome them without conflict.
After all, although Yanchuan Xianyou was the grandson of the National Public Security Committee Chairman, it didn’t mean that Takeda Fuji and the Yamaguchi Group lacked powerful backers.
Once violent competition commenced, merely depending on the Yamakawa Family would not be enough, so Aoyama Xiu Xin wanted Yamakawa Ichiro to help him arrange a meeting with Sumiyoshi Federation President, Kubota Shigeru.
Although last February Nishikou Younan had become the new president of the Sumiyoshi Family, in many critical matters, it was still Kubota Shigeru, the retired emperor, who was in charge.
Alas, all the effort Mr. Aoyama put into benefiting the Japanese people was truly heartbreaking.
The meeting took place in a high-end restaurant.
When Yamakawa Ichiro arrived, Mr. Aoyama had already started eating. He bowed at the entrance of the private room to Aoyama, who was eating gleefully inside, "Mr. Aoyama."
"Congratulations, Chairman Yamakawa," Aoyama Xiu Xin said, swallowing the food in his mouth and giving him a slight smile.
He hadn’t paid special attention, but he had heard from Fujimoto Ryosuke about Yamakawa Ichiro’s coup.
"Thanks to your care," said Yamakawa Ichiro.
"Arrange for me to meet President Kubota Shigeru of the Sumiyoshi Federation, as soon as possible," Aoyama Xiu Xin, having nearly finished his meal, put down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and added, "If he makes excuses, tell him I’m representing the Yanchuan Family."
Kubota Shigeru became the leader of what was then still called the Sumiyoshi Family in 1967, renaming the organization to Sumiyoshi Federation. Under his leadership, Sumiyoshi extended its influence and by 1988 surpassed the Daokuan Association as the biggest Violent Gang organization in Eastern Japan.
As a legendary figure in the Japanese underworld, like those women who fancied dark heroes — he was known to be unapproachable by just about anyone.
He wouldn’t take a mere Police Chief like Aoyama Xiu Xin seriously—Aoyama didn’t even qualify to request a meeting with Kubota; hence, he had to invoke the Yanchuan Family’s name.
"Hi!" Yamakawa Ichiro was initially troubled by Aoyama Xiu Xin’s request, but upon hearing the three words ’Yanchuan Family,’ he promptly agreed. Then he added, "Mr. Aoyama, although the Yamakawa Family is weak, we are willing to shed our last drop of blood for you!"
He feared that if Aoyama Xiu Xin could directly collaborate with a big shot like Kubota Shigeru, the Yamakawa Family would be abandoned.
"I am aware of your loyalty, Ichiro-san," Aoyama Xiu Xin said calmly, waving him over. As Yamakawa leaned forward, Aoyama patted his shoulder and added, "However, you won’t be able to handle this matter, but there will surely be an opportunity for you to shed blood. I am looking forward to seeing your performance."
Kubota would not give him face, only the Yanchuan Family, yet the Yamakawa Family truly obeyed him. He wasn’t going to float away on the coattails of pulling the Yanchuan Family’s strings to speak with Kubota and forget the Yamakawa Family that he personally supported.
"Hi!" Yamakawa Ichiro responded—Violent Gangs do not fear bloodshed, as it often brings benefits.
"Let me know when you have news." Aoyama Xiu Xin picked up his water glass to rinse his mouth, then stood up, took his coat, and left.
Yamakawa Ichiro bowed deeply, "Please, take care!"
Once he stood up, he called over a waiter to pay the bill.
