Chapter 66: Chapter 62: Promotion to Inspector, Nurse, Gathering

The next day, news of the Beitu Bank robbery case being solved was broadcasted nationwide through television, radio, and newspapers. However, the full loss of 3.7 billion yen wasn’t completely recovered; only 830 million yen was retrieved.

Because that was all the robbers took, the remaining 1.9 billion yen was conveniently written off by the bank as bad debts.

Through such means, the higher-ups at the Beitu Bank Tokyo Shinjuku Branch smoothly passed the head office’s audit, and everyone kept their positions.

As they achieved their goal, the fates of the others involved in the incident varied.

Scar Face’s gang saw two dead and two captured. Based on the 3.7 billion stolen, the arrested pair were facing life imprisonment or the death penalty; Noda’s unfortunate group had one dead and four detained, to be released after a month; and Xiao Lin, the middleman, managed to retire safely from the risky business.

The day after the case was submitted for prosecution, Xiu Xin and Asai Police Chief received official orders to transfer to the Police Headquarters.

What surprised Aoyama Xiu Xin was that he didn’t return to his former position as assistant police chief but was directly promoted to Police Chief, effectively an early confirmation of his position by several months.

He was also not reassigned to his initial division—Robbery Investigation Division II—but was transferred to Homicide Investigation Division I as Deputy Director, while Asai Ayumi became the Chief, still his direct supervisor.

The report was dated May 20, and they received their orders on May 15, giving them five days to hand over their duties and adjust to their new roles.

"Congratulations on your promotion, Police Chief Aoyama. Now our ranks are equal," Asai Ayumi said with a smile as they stepped out of the station chief’s office.

Her rank had not increased, but her promotion was probably imminent; she just had to wait for the right opportunity since she was still quite young.

At least until she turned 25.

In Japan, 25 and 30 are considered significant milestones; for instance, one can run for the House of Representatives at 25 and the Senate at 30.

Aoyama Xiu Xin didn’t seem particularly surprised by this news and said with a light chuckle, "Is this the compensation for being framed by Sato?"

Asai Ayumi pursed her lips when she heard this.

"Did you help me with this?" Xiu Xin picked up on this detail and raised an eyebrow before laughing self-deprecatingly, "That’s right, why would the high and mighty care if a small fry like me feels aggrieved or not?"

"I had my father help petition for your compensation from the Police Headquarters," Asai Ayumi admitted candidly, seeing that Xiu Xin had guessed the truth, "After all, you’ve helped me a lot. This is my way of repaying you."

Xiu Xin needed to keep pace with her as she climbed the ranks; otherwise, how could he continue to help her achieve merits?

So every time she advanced, she had to give him a hand, and sometimes, she had to extend that hand several times.

"Well, this promotion is truly well-deserved," Xiu Xin nodded, feeling entirely justified in his advancement.

"You!" Asai Ayumi didn’t expect him to take it for granted and glared at him, taking a deep breath to calm down, "We’re leaving soon, so let’s treat our colleagues from the Gunpowder Division to dinner tonight as a celebration for solving the Beitu Bank robbery."

"Sure," Xiu Xin agreed, and then brought up the favor he had asked of her, "About introducing me to an influential figure...?"

"Tomorrow!" Asai Ayumi hadn’t expected him to still not give up on this matter, even after helping him become a police chief, and could only sigh resignedly, "Let’s meet someone tomorrow at noon then. I’ll take you."

"Thank you, Chief," Xiu Xin bowed graciously, his face breaking into a smile, then looking up, added, "Since you’re helping me all the way, please also prepare the gift we’ll need for the visit tomorrow."

With that, he turned and swiftly walked away.

"Hey! Stop right there! Hey!" Asai Ayumi watched incredulously as he walked away, stomping her foot in frustration, "Idiot! This despicable guy!"

Secretly risking a lecture from her father and brother to introduce him to the Asakai family’s connections, and now he even expected her to prepare the gift—that’s just shameless.

Seems like I’ll have to sneak away some of my father’s tea leaves.

Leaving the police station, Aoyama Xiu Xin suddenly found himself missing his former subordinate, Mr. Tanaka, and headed straight to the hospital.

After all, deep down, he was someone who cherished old ties.

Upon reaching the hospital, he made his way to Tanaka Noriaki’s room but was surprised upon opening the door.

"Mrs. Tanaka, what are you doing..."

At that moment, Tanaka Naoko was wearing a nurse’s cap and a white nurse’s uniform, her legs wrapped in thin white stockings beneath the skirt’s hem, with low-heeled leather shoes on her feet, giving her an added aura of sanctity.

Uniforms truly are marvelous things.

"Oh! Mr. Aoyama, you’ve come," Tanaka Naoko said, bowing slightly and shyly avoiding Xiu Xin’s gaze as she explained, "I was originally a nurse at this hospital, but resigned after marrying Mr. Ji Wen. The director is a kind man, who knew about my lack of income and allowed me to come back to work."

"Such a good person. We should thank the director; good people are blessed with peace," Aoyama Xiu Xin sincerely expressed his gratitude to the director. A married woman and a nurse—it was like fulfilling two wishes in one go. The director was as lovable as an angel.

For a man, the allure of uniforms cannot be overstated!

Feeling his intense gaze, Tanaka Naoko’s heart raced as she felt as if she was standing there naked, uncomfortably saying, "You’re here to visit Mr. Ji Wen, right? I have to work, so I won’t interrupt your conversation with him and stay here."

As her words fell, she bowed and hurriedly tried to leave with her head lowered, but as she passed by Aoyama Xiu Xin, he caught her wrist and pulled her into his embrace.

"Ah! Mr. Aoyama... Don’t! It’s work hours now, please let go of me first, okay?"

Blushing and looking down with slight struggles in his embrace, Tanaka Naoko pleaded in a panic.

"I’m not feeling very well; could Nurse Naoko check on me?" Aoyama Xiu Xin said teasingly, feeling the warm and soft beauty in his arms.

Tanaka Naoko’s figure wasn’t particularly voluptuous, but her curves under the nurse’s uniform were still apparent, mainly it was that quality of a good family woman about her that made one want to ravish her.

Tanaka Naoko’s face and ears turned red, her heart filled both with humiliation and shame, "Mr. Aoyama, don’t do this."

"Nurse Naoko, is this how you usually treat your patients? Shouldn’t you be asking me where I’m not feeling well?" Aoyama Xiu Xin pinched her cheek.

Fearing that her colleagues might come looking for her in the ward if she didn’t return soon, and they would witness this scene, Tanaka Naoko, overwhelmed with shame, played along with Aoyama Xiu Xin’s role-playing, hoping he would quickly let her leave.

"Then... may I ask where you’re feeling unwell, sir? Please, let me... take a look."

"Hey! Then please do, Nurse!"

............

After work in the evening, Aoyama Xiu Xin and Asai Ayumi hosted a dinner for their fellow colleagues from the firearms division.

The venue was a Korean BBQ restaurant.

There are many Koreans and North Koreans living in Japan, so similar BBQ restaurants can be found everywhere.

"Cheers!"

A dozen people in the private room raised their glasses together, clinking sounds echoed, some froth splashed out, and they tilted back their heads to gulp down the drink.

After finishing their glasses, some female colleagues who didn’t like drinking alcohol switched to soft drinks or tea.

"Please don’t be shy, everyone." Aoyama Xiu Xin poured himself another drink and said, "After working together for so long and with our parting imminent, I want to thank everyone for your cooperation at work. Cheers to you all."

The others stood up and joined in with another round.

After three rounds of drinks, Jing Shang turned around holding two gift bags and stood up, "Police Chief Asai, Police Chief Aoyama, this is a small token of appreciation from all of us in the division, we wish you lots of success in your new roles at Police Headquarters."

"Ah, this... this isn’t right..." Asai Ayumi quickly put down her glass, instinctively about to refuse.

However, Jing Shang said, "It’s not anything valuable, please do accept it."

"Yes! It’s just a little something, please accept it!" The others also bowed their heads in unison.

"Police Chief Asai, since it’s everyone’s sincere gesture, you shouldn’t refuse." Aoyama Xiu Xin directly took one of the bags, peeked inside, and said, "Oh, it’s red wine; it looks quite tasty. Let’s share it together."

He said, taking out the red wine right away.

"In that case, thank you everyone for the gifts," Asai Ayumi said, accepting the gifts as well.

Then followed another round of toasting and laughter, with the whole room radiating joy and harmony.

It wasn’t until very late that they left, Aoyama Xiu Xin kept Nakamura Shinichi back till the end, "Once I’ve found my footing at Police Headquarters, I’ll transfer you over."

"Yes, sir!" Nakamura Shinichi bowed excitedly.

Aoyama Xiu Xin patted him on the shoulder.

After bowing again, Nakamura Shinichi turned and left.

Asai Ayumi came over and stood beside Aoyama Xiu Xin, "Are you planning to take Nakamura to Police Headquarters as well?"

"Not just him, Mr. Liangyi, too. Don’t you think it’s a waste of his skills to stay at Shinjuku Police Station?" Aoyama Xiu Xin turned his head and asked.

Asai Ayumi frowned slightly and said, "While Fujimoto Ryosuke could serve as a deputy director at the Shinjuku Police Station, at Police Headquarters he would just be an ordinary detective."

The chief positions at Police Headquarters were at least for police commissioners.

"But from what I know of him, he would prefer to go to Police Headquarters," said Aoyama Xiu Xin with a light laugh.

Asai Ayumi didn’t say anything more; she brushed her wind-blown hair aside and then hailed a taxi with a wave of her hand, "I’m going home first, I’ll see you tomorrow at noon."

"Okay, see you tomorrow."
