Chapter 543: Chapter 463: Ground Sitting Price Hike, New Tricks, Two Blazing Fires (7400 words, soliciting monthly passes)
Yagyu Tao made his way to the Yamada family’s house and discovered that the door wasn’t closed. He gestured for his underling to wait outside and entered alone, politely taking off his shoes.
Entering the living room, he saw a disheveled young man in his thirties with long hair, sitting on the floor drinking while snacking on peanuts.
"Hey, Mr. Yamada, having a drink, I see."
Yagyu Tao forced a friendly smile.
"Just spit it out if you have something to say," Mr. Yamada said abruptly, downing a gulp of alcohol and giving Yagyu Tao a sidelong glance, not taking him seriously at all.
Yagyu Tao inwardly seethed with anger, but he didn’t dare show it on his face and chuckled, "It’s about the demolition matter, you see. Now that all the neighbors have signed the contract, perhaps you could sign it too?"
"I’ll sign, sure," Mr. Yamada nodded and then stretched out his hand, "Hand it over."
"What?" Yagyu Tao was stunned for a moment.
"What do you think?" sneered Mr. Yamada, popping a peanut into his mouth and coldly saying, "You think I don’t know you? I don’t care how much money Beiyuan Construction Co., Ltd has given you, but I want half a million US dollars. The moment you wire the money, I’ll sign the contract."
"Mr. Yamada, you’ve got it wrong. I really haven’t taken any advantages from Beiyuan Construction," Yagyu Tao said helplessly, wryly smiling and shaking his head.
Mr. Yamada naturally didn’t believe a word of it; pushing the demolition so eagerly without any benefit was total nonsense, right? "Whether you admit it or not, I want half a million US dollars. Otherwise, don’t expect me to sign any contract. You can intimidate the pushovers, but I, Yamada Shinryu, am not afraid of you, Yagyu Tao. If you dare, just kill me right now, or else bring the money and tell me to get lost."
He was the very definition of tough as nails.
"Mr. Yamada, I swear to Amaterasu I truly haven’t taken a dime from Beiyuan Construction!" Yagyu Tao earnestly raised a hand, then quickly changed the subject, "How about we both compromise? Apart from the compensation, I’ll personally add something extra for you—how about thirty thousand US dollars?"
If it weren’t for his life being at stake, the money-loving him would never offer his own money to compensate Mr. Yamada.
That was already his limit.
"Heh, still saying you didn’t take Beiyuan Construction’s money? If you didn’t, would you be so generous? Willing to pay out of your own pocket for my signature?" Mr. Yamada’s expression conveyed his disbelief, reinforcing his resolve to extort a large sum, "Thirty thousand? Are you kidding me?"
He paused for a moment, then raised his glass and drained it. Wiping the liquor from his lips, he nonchalantly said, "Fine, since you deny taking any money from Beiyuan Construction, I won’t ask you for the half million. I’ll wait for them to come and talk to me. Then I’ll directly ask for the money from them."
Even this old bastard Yagyu Tao was willing to shell out thirty thousand US dollars to buy him off, which surely meant Beiyuan Construction gave him a hefty reward. As long as he stood firm on not moving without additional payment, he would definitely get a large sum of money.
"Mr. Yamada! Are you really willing to hinder the city’s development for your own selfish interests?" Yagyu Tao accused furiously, thinking bitterly that if Beiyuan Construction had to negotiate with him directly, what was the point of keeping him around?
Mr. Yamada was taken aback, "I never expected that one day you’d try to pressure me with righteousness. But don’t bring that up with me, what do I care about the city’s development? I just know that I won’t let you monopolize this hard-earned fortune. If you aren’t giving me the money, then just get lost."
"Yamada Shinryu! I’ve spoken to you nicely for so long, and I’ve done my part. Don’t push me to force you!" With his life on the line, Yagyu Tao warned through gritted teeth, growing increasingly agitated.
"Smack!" Yamada Shinryu slammed his hand on the table, grabbed a cleaver nearby, and stood up with his neck outstretched, "What are you going to do? Want to see some blood? Come on, either kill me today, or I kill you! I’ve got nothing to lose, and without the money, nobody’s going to get anywhere with me!"
Seeing the cleaver in his hand, Yagyu Tao calmed down on the spot. He was already pushing fifty, and he knew that if a physical fight broke out with this tough-as-nails guy, he’d be at a disadvantage.
"Alright, just you wait," he said with habitual menace, and left without looking back.
"Pah!" Yamada Shinryu spat disdainfully at his retreating figure, "I’ll be waiting!"
"Boss, looks like the talks fell through?"
The underlings outside approached Yagyu Tao, who left with a grim face, and hurriedly greeted him, inquiring about the situation.
"The bastard wants half a million US dollars, or else he just won’t sign the contract," Yagyu Tao cursed.
"Ah! What... what are we going to do then? Where the hell are we going to find half a million US dollars to give him?"
"We’ve got just three days. If we can’t sort out this guy, Beiyuan Construction won’t let us off."
The underlings discussed amongst themselves.
Yagyu Tao’s expression shifted between dark and light. He glanced back coldly at Yamada Shinryu’s house, clenching his teeth fiercely, "Get some gasoline—we’ll torch the place tonight."
Yamada Shinryu’s home was a somewhat older detached house, with empty plots on either side that had been purchased but not yet built upon, thus reducing the risk of the fire spreading.
If there were houses on both sides, Yagyu Tao would have never dared do such a thing. After all, these old-style buildings were mainly wooden structures, and once a fire started, stopping it would be impossible—it could result in the whole street going up in flames.
"Ah! But... Boss, what if he gets burned to death as well?" one of the underlings turned pale.
