Chapter 450: Chapter 397: Since When Do Bad People Write "Bad" on Their Faces?
"Ding-ling-ling! Ding-ling-ling!"
Just as he had stepped out of the hospital, Xiu Xin’s phone rang. He moved to the side to pick up. "Speak."
"Chief, we’ve confirmed the identity of that worker, but when our people arrived at his house, they found a funeral in progress. Only then did we learn that he had jumped from a building two days ago," Nakamura Shinichi reported in a low voice. The lead from the worker wearing the straw hat was dead, and with it, the most crucial clue they had was gone.
"Idiot!" Xiu Xin couldn’t help but curse. Taking a glance at the increasingly distant visiting group, he had no time to say more. "Conduct a detailed search of the worker’s home. Report any findings to me, that’s all."
After hanging up, he followed the group.
"What’s wrong?" Noticing his grim expression, Fujimoto Takayoshi deliberately lagged behind to wait for him and asked.
Xiu Xin explained the situation to him in a low voice.
Hearing this, Fujimoto Takayoshi also showed some regret but still consoled, "At least until you arrived, the case hadn’t made such significant progress. I believe you will definitely catch the killer. Don’t rush."
Xiu Xin bowed slightly, saying nothing more.
After leaving the hospital, the visiting group went directly to a private club for dinner. From the moment they entered, they were greeted by service women with graceful figures and beautiful looks, and aside from them, there were no other guests.
The club manager personally received them and led the group into an elegantly decorated large private room. Inside, it was as warm as spring, and a group of servers, clad in kimonos, stood against the wall. They served one-on-one, holding hot towels to offer for the guests to wipe their faces and hands as everyone took their seats.
"Everyone has worked hard today. The bill is on me, so please don’t be shy," said Miyashita Hidekatsu, and after wiping his face, he casually handed the towel back to a server. "Start serving the dishes."
"Hi! I will notify the kitchen right now!" The still-charming female manager promptly turned to make arrangements.
While waiting for the dishes, of course, boredom wasn’t an option. The doors at both ends of the room, Changzi Gate, slowly opened, revealing two groups of similarly dressed dancing girls who began to dance along with the music.
They wore thin kimonos, tightly bound around their bodies, and occasionally, as they stood on their toes, a glimpse of their pale calves was visible—no other parts could be seen.
Yet their figures were fine, and even the kimonos could not hide the tempting curves. The more covered up and out of sight, the more they tickled the imagination, making people itch to discover more.
However, everyone present was dignified, and even if their hearts were burning with desire, their faces only showed a mild smile, as though purely admiring the dance.
"Chief of Police Qing Mountain, this is the welcoming dance unique to our Beihai, specially to celebrate the arrival of distinguished guests from afar. Welcome to your position at the Hokkaido Police Headquarters," Miyashita Hidekatsu said amiably.
Some at the gathering didn’t know Xiu Xin’s background and thought he received special treatment from the mayor only because of his fame, which made them envious.
It’s funny how reality works; when a person is valued for their abilities, it doesn’t necessarily convince others, but if they are valued for their connections, people find it natural.
Xiu Xin got up, anxious and respectful, bowing to Miyashita, "Thank you, Mr. Mayor."
"After all, you are the renowned Heisei’s No.1 Detective, deserving of such treatment," Miyashita laughed, implying that it wasn’t because of your godfather that I treat you this way, but it’s your own merit that I appreciate. He knew the young are swayed by such acknowledgment.
Xiu Xin was aware of this, so as desired, he feigned excitement, "It’s just an overrated reputation. But since Mr. Mayor believes in Xiu Xin, I will definitely make a mark and not let down your expectations."
"Very well, I’m looking forward to it."
Soon, exquisite dishes made of expensive ingredients were brought out, accompanied by fine wine and tea.
"Gentlemen, please enjoy your meal."
"Mr. Mayor first, please."
With cups clinking and jovial laughter, they chatted about everything but work, the atmosphere blissful. When the wine was in full flow, some even forgot their status to join the dancing girls, eliciting bursts of laughter from everyone.
As for the injured in the hospital, the corpses in the morgue, they were long forgotten.
When Xiu Xin returned home, drunk, at ten in the evening, it was Miyashita’s driver who brought him. Such treatment could lead one to suspect, after tonight, a family tie between Xiu Xin and Miyashita, even if one didn’t know who Xiu Xin’s godfather was.
"Thank you for your trouble. Please give my thanks to Mr. Mayor," Xiu Xin told the driver.
"Hi! It’s my duty." The driver bowed and said, "I shall take my leave now."
Xiu Xin nodded, then yawned and headed for the front door, where his security guard came forward to take his briefcase and pressed the doorbell for him.
"Sir, there were visitors tonight, waiting inside for you, a man and a woman."
Xiu Xin’s brows furrowed at the news.
Just then, the door opened, and Qingzi sniffed the strong scent of alcohol, looking worried as she quickly reached out to support Xiu Xin. "Did you drink a lot tonight?"
"I’m fine. We have visitors?" Xiu Xin shook his head, indicating she didn’t need to help, and asked her.
Taking the briefcase from the guard, Qingzi nodded, "Yes, two reporters came to visit."
