Chapter 413: Chapter 366: Selected the Location for the External Transfer, Action-Packed (Vote for Monthly Pass!)
After tossing out the hot potato, Xiu Xin Aoyama finally had no more worries and returned home feeling light in both body and mind. He flopped down on the sofa and let out a long sigh.
"Go argue with my adoptive grandpa if you’ve got any complaints. Just keep your dissatisfaction with me to yourself since I’ll be rolling out of Tokyo soon anyway."
"What’s the matter? You seem preoccupied," asked Aoyama Haruko, who had finished watering the flowers.
Her form-fitting turtleneck sweater clung to her voluptuous body, and the sky-blue jeans highlighted her perfectly proportioned legs like a pair of chopsticks—she was truly enticing.
She loved watering flowers.
So did Xiu Xin Aoyama.
Leaning forward, Xiu Xin Aoyama grabbed her hand, pulled her into his arms, and nuzzled affectionately at the nape of her neck. "Nothing much, just solved a pesky problem. Also, I might be transferred after the New Year. Are you coming with me, sister-in-law, or staying in Tokyo?"
His relocation wasn’t a banishment; he would return eventually, so it was up to his sister-in-law whether to accompany him or not.
In this regard, he fully respected her decision.
"Of course I’m..." she blurted out, but then hesitated, seemingly embarrassed, and lowered her head shyly, biting her red lip as she whispered the last few words, "going with you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly found excuses to convince herself, "I’ve been managing your daily needs for years. Without me, I fear you’d neglect your personal life due to work. I must go to take care of you."
She was serious, her expression solemn.
"Yes, yes, without my dear sister-in-law, I’d regress to a caveman and couldn’t survive," teased Xiu Xin Aoyama as he held her tightly.
Aoyama Haruko pinched him irritably and ran out of his arms, "I can’t deal with you, honestly."
As he watched his sister-in-law’s graceful retreat, Xiu Xin Aoyama’s lips curled into a smile harder to suppress than an AK’s recoil, excited by the thought that he could finally unwrap this long-anticipated "gift" tomorrow.
He casually adjusted the gun barrel’s direction and started to consider serious matters to distract himself—like where to serve next and who to take with him.
Japan has twelve police headquarters, and he didn’t consider locations close to Tokyo like the Kanagawa Prefectural Police because he had to leave Tokyo anyway, plus he could always return. Why not choose somewhere further away where he could act without restraint, as the saying goes, "the mountains are high and the emperor is far away."
And considering Japan’s small size, as long as there’s an airport, it would be easy to return to Tokyo if needed.
After careful thought, Xiu Xin Aoyama decided on the Hokkaido Police Headquarters in Sapporo City. Sapporo, being the fifth-largest city in Japan with a population of over one million and a booming tourism industry, offers plenty to eat, drink, and enjoy. Most importantly, it’s damn far from Tokyo.
Moreover, the headquarters of the Ground Self-Defense Force Northern Command is located in Sapporo, and a substantial military presence is spread throughout Hokkaido—perfect for establishing a good rapport with the grassroots units and nurturing close relationships with the Land Guard.
With two airports in Sapporo, one civilian and the other dual-purpose, traveling back to Tokyo would be convenient.
Having settled on the location, he now needed to decide who to bring with him; after all, he couldn’t pioneer this new frontier alone.
Personal bodyguard Jin Yucheng was a must.
Since his sister-in-law was also coming, he only needed one person to watch the house in Tokyo. He would take the rest of the security personnel with him to protect his "royal self."
He had to take Nakamura Shinichi, but he decided to leave Yoshikai Youzai and Fujiwara Takahiro behind in Tokyo, ensuring enough manpower to maintain his influence over the First Investigative Division and keep his affairs from cooling off once he left.
Having planned his transfer, Xiu Xin Aoyama began to ponder how to deal with Edogawa Renju and Nakamura Tatsuyuki. If it weren’t for these two inadvertently leaking that he indeed possessed Tanaka’s ledger, why would he have had to hand it over to his adoptive grandpa?
Dealing with Edogawa Renju was easy; the video of him killing Heize Tian’an was more than enough to take him down.
The problem was how to handle Nakamura Tatsuyuki.
It seemed Yanchuan Xianyou had reasons for deliberately keeping Edogawa Renju and Nakamura Tatsuyuki, this pair of open adversaries.
So, before making a move on them, he’d need to persuade Yanchuan, especially since he had just offended his adoptive grandpa by secretly withholding the ledger. If he angered his "brother" by targeting Nakamura Tatsuyuki and Edogawa Renju...
That would truly sever his ties with the Yanchuan Family.
For now, he couldn’t afford to cast off this "tiger’s skin."
Ideally, he had to make Yanchuan Xianyou take the initiative to deal with them both, so he could resolve his frustration and improve Yanchuan’s opinion of him.
After all, Yanchuan was surely displeased about the ledger incident, and it would be a chance to make amends.
But how to incite Yanchuan Xianyou to take the initiative to clean up after them? Xiu Xin Aoyama’s mind raced, and a crafty idea surfaced.
He might not excel at honest work.
But when it came to scheming, he was bursting with ideas.
Xiu Xin Aoyama got up to leave the house and dialed Zhao Qinghong in the yard, "Good evening, Mr. Zhao."
"Hey! Good evening, Mr. Aoyama, may I know if there’s anything you need?" Zhao Qinghong, in the midst of a banquet, quickly rose to his feet, his attitude utterly respectful.
After cozying up to Xiu Xin Aoyama, he had indeed tasted the fruits of betrayal and now held significant sway within the Japanese Chinese community.
Even though many people cursed him as a traitor and lapdog behind his back.
Who wouldn’t respectfully address him as Chairman Zhao to his face?
Moreover, his actions had by now completely alienated him from the Chinese community; he must cling tightly to Mr. Aoyama’s coattails.
Aoyama Xiu Xin looked up at the distant moon and said airily, "I need to do something... first this way, then that way, and finally like this. Do you understand?"
"Absolutely! Rest assured, Mr. Aoyama, I’ll handle it perfectly. Otherwise, you can kick my head around like a ball," Zhao Qinghong pledged with ironclad assurance.
"Keep your head on your shoulders," Aoyama Xiu Xin said as he hung up the phone.
Hearing the busy signal, Zhao Qinghong put down the phone. The sycophantic smile vanished, replaced by a look of smugness as he sat down and said with feigned helplessness, "Those little Japanese are always so fussy; I’m the one who has to do everything."
"Oh wow, isn’t that just proof of how much the Japanese value Chairman Zhao? They can’t do without you."
"Yes, yes, isn’t it said that Chairman Zhao thrives on Japanese soil?"
"Come, let’s all drink to Chairman Zhao."
"Ha ha ha, you flatter me too much. As Chinese in a foreign land, we must stick together. If you brothers ever need me in the future, don’t hesitate to reach out!" Zhao Qinghong’s vanity was immensely satisfied. His face flushed with pride, and his laughter continued unabated.
Having gained a bit of weight since becoming chairman—where he once could pass as a genteel rogue, he now resembled nothing so much as a corpulent, traitorous lapdog.
Before success, one can possess many fine qualities, but with long-term flattery and being held aloft by others, without steadfast principles, it’s easy to become swollen with pride and forget one’s capacity.
Zhao Qinghong was now like that, increasingly autocratic, flamboyant, and eager for achievement. Only in the presence of Aoyama Xiu Xin did he remember who he was.
Most people change with their circumstances.
As Aoyama Xiu Xin had predicted, Yanchuan Xianyou was indeed displeased with the unilateral confiscation of the accounts.
"Heh, people aren’t like dogs. No matter how well you treat them, how much you feed them, they’ll never become one of us; they will always harbor little schemes," Yanchuan Xianyou said mockingly after hanging up the phone from his grandfather.
Asakawa Xia spoke up for Aoyama Xiu Xin, considering the dumpling skins he had once eaten and the guidance work he had done, "Everyone has their own interests. Since he’s capable and his stance aligns with the Yanchuan family, then use him. You can’t expect him to truly consider himself one of the Yanchuans. Although grandpa took him in as an adopted grandson, he didn’t change his surname and has no claim to the inheritance. It’s only natural for him to plan for his future."
"You’re right; it’s my mistake for getting too personally involved. Perhaps I did take him for one of the Yanchuans. This has been a reality check for me; it’s better to talk less of emotions and more of interests." Yanchuan Xianyou paused, then nodded, acknowledging the error, before frowning curiously, "I didn’t expect you to speak up for him."
After all, from Asakawa Xia’s usual attitude toward Aoyama Xiu Xin, she clearly looked down on him.
"I’m not speaking for him." Asakawa Xia’s heart skipped a beat. She smiled, moved closer, and playfully wrapped her arms around her husband’s arm, "I’m speaking for you. After all, I’m worried that you might hold a grudge against him for this and distance yourself, which would mean losing a capable and trustworthy lieutenant."
Seeing her act this way, Yanchuan Xianyou was instantly reminded of his first love, who used to act similarly, and he felt a pang of discomfort. With no outward sign, he withdrew his hand and lowered his head to drink tea.
Asakawa Xia keenly detected the shift in her husband’s emotions. While her face remained expressionless, her nails were almost digging into her palm.
The living room fell silent, the atmosphere somewhat tense.
This was the norm in the couple’s relationship.
.........
December 15th, a drizzly morning.
"Sister-in-law, wait for my return." Aoyama Xiu Xin smiled meaningfully at his sister-in-law just before heading out.
Despite having mentally braced herself, Aoyama Haruko still blushed intensely, forcibly pushing him out the door, "Enough, enough, just go to work."
To think she’d be courted by her brother-in-law... how utterly embarrassing.
As Aoyama Xiu Xin left the house, Yanchuan Xianyou had also taken to the road in his car.
After driving a distance, he quickly noticed a car following him through the rearview mirror.
For safety, he dared not head to the golf course he originally planned to visit. The route there was too isolated. In order to avoid startling the tracker, he didn’t return home or stop midway, but instead, he drove to his father’s company, acting as if that was his intended destination all along.
After showing his pass and being allowed by the security to enter, he looked through the rearview mirror and saw the white Toyota sedan that had been following him stop across the street, seemingly lying in wait.
He promptly called Aoyama Xiu Xin.
"Xiu Xin, a car has been following me all morning. I’m at my father’s company; the car is now parked across the street, a white Toyota Corolla. Could you check what’s going on?"
As a policeman, Aoyama Xiu Xin was perfectly suited to investigating such matters. It also served to show that he did not hold any grudge over the incident with the accounts, nor harbored any resentment.
"Hey, Brother Xianyou, I’ll immediately have someone conduct counter-surveillance and trace the roots to find the mastermind," Aoyama Xiu Xin responded without delay.
After hanging up, he smirked. The person tailing Yanchuan Xianyou had actually been arranged by Zhao Qinghong at his behest, naturally with the intent to frame Nakamura Tatsuyuki.
In such matters, Yanchuan Xianyou would most likely not doubt his word. He would just say that the tracking led back to Nakamura Tatsuyuki as the mastermind, which Yanchuan Xianyou would surely believe.
He would then take the opportunity to fan the flames, suggesting that Nakamura Tatsuyuki had started an investigation against him and for safety’s sake, they must strike first. Yanchuan Xianyou, for his interests, would naturally agree to make a move against Nakamura Tatsuyuki.
Such was the man’s capacity for action—always operating at full throttle.
