Tokyo: From Lawless Madpolice to Minister -
Chapter 406 - 361: Deranged, An Unquiet Night
Chapter 406: Chapter 361: Deranged, An Unquiet Night
"President Tanaka, are you... are you sure?"
Chongtian Xingping breathed hurriedly, his hand clutching the telephone tightened repeatedly, the knuckles whitening with immense psychological pressure.
Without the two police officers as hostages,
he would naturally be beyond reproach for mounting an assault.
But knowing full well there were two hostages and still ordering an assault meant he would certainly be held accountable afterward.
He was unsure whether the situation was really as grave as Tanaka Guikuma said it was, necessitating the sacrifice of his career to ensure the preservation of his life, freedom, and riches.
"Chongtian-kun, please!" Tanaka Guikuma took a deep breath, saying almost word for word.
"Yes!" Chongtian Xingping heard the necessity in those words, took a deep breath, hung up the phone, and declared decisively, "Attack."
"Huh?" His subordinates around him collectively froze in confusion.
Chongtian Xingping repeated, "Go on the offensive."
"Minister, please reconsider..."
"I said attack!" Chongtian Xingping ruthlessly cut off his subordinates trying to persuade him, roaring with extreme irritation, "Are you questioning a superior’s order?"
"Yes, sir! This subordinate dares not!"
Seeing this, no one dared to speak again; they could only watch the assault team, armed and ready, prepare for the attack.
"Idiots! They’re insane! They’re starting the assault without regard for the hostages’ safety," Oda, hiding by the window, looked out and exclaimed angrily.
Nakamura Shinichi’s face was very grim as he gritted his teeth and said, "Our identities may have been exposed."
That’s why they’re willing to take any means to silence us.
The two hostages became instantly terrified upon hearing this.
"Dammit! How can they just storm in like that!"
"Idiot! Chongtian Xingping, this damn bastard! He’s going to end up in court for this!"
"Prepare to face the enemy! Judging by the time, Police Headquarters should be arriving soon," Nakamura Shinichi buoyed their spirits and returned the confiscated guns to the two hostages, showing his badge with sober certainty, "We are officers from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. You probably have a clear idea of the situation by now. If you don’t want to go down with them, fight back with us."
"Damn it!" the two hostages cursed in frustration and reluctance, took their own guns, and found appropriate positions from which to resist the attack by their colleagues.
Nakamura Shinichi, with his ample experience and clear logic, said, "Unless there’s a surprise, they’ll probably throw tear gas first. Go to the kitchen and the bathroom, use a wet towel to cover your nose and mouth. If we withstand this wave and catch them off guard, we still stand a chance."
"Yes, sir!"
Oda and the others hurriedly went to prepare wet towels, while Nakamura Shinichi took the opportunity to call Aoyama Xiu Xin.
"Police Headquarters, our identities have been compromised. The Osaka Prefecture Police surrounding us are preparing for a full assault, our location... Oda! Where are we?"
"Shangben Town Sixth District, 109-110."
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" After hanging up the phone, Nakamura Shinichi licked his dry lips, his spirit lifted as he announced, "Police Headquarters have entered the city!"
Hearing this, Oda and the others’ fighting spirit and confidence soared, and they quickened their movements.
"Wait! We’re from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division! We came to Osaka on a secret mission to investigate a case! This is my badge!" Nakamura Shinichi ran to the window and shouted, throwing his badge out.
At this point, showing their badges was crucial, first, to confuse the enemy’s morale and buy more time, second, to prevent the other side from later justifying their aggressive actions by claiming ignorance of their identities.
Hearing these words, the assault team, which had just completed its preparations and was about to attack, suddenly halted, turning their heads in unison to look at Chongtian Xingping for new orders.
Chongtian Xingping broke out in a cold sweat.
He finally understood why Tanaka Guikuma wanted him to kill everyone inside the building—it was his colleagues from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and they definitely had evidence detrimental to Tanaka Guikuma.
He took the badge that a subordinate had picked up and handed over to him, and after a brief hesitation, ripped it up and threw it on the ground, saying coldly, "Still trying to pretend to be police officers to buy time? Can’t you make your fake badges a bit more convincing? Do you think I can’t tell? Assault team, proceed with the original plan, attack!"
At this point, there was no turning back.
"Idiot..."
"Bang!" Nakamura Shinichi wanted to say something to shake the enemy, but Chongtian Xingping drew his gun and pulled the trigger, forcing him to retreat, "Attack!"
"Fire!"
"Bang bang bang bang bang!"
One tear gas canister after another shattered the glass and was thrown into the civilian homes, with its irritating smoke spreading instantly throughout the building, filling every room.
The gunfire had begun.
Elsewhere, the Police Headquarters’ convoy was speeding towards Shangben Town Sixth District, with Aoyama Xiu Xin inside, his face stern.
Based on the recent call from Nakamura Shinichi, he knew that Tanaka Guikuma and his men were now desperately cornered.
Thus, he was extremely anxious: his heart racing and full of urgency.
Suddenly, the car slowed down.
"What’s going on!" Aoyama Xiu Xin steadied his body from the inertia of the braking and grabbed the radio.
"Szz—Report to the Chief, there’s a large number of Violent Gang members ahead, blocking our path with their vehicles."
Fujiwara Takahiro had already stepped out of the car and was standing at the forefront of the Police Headquarters’ convoy. In front of him were a dozen extravagantly decorated gang vehicles, with a group of toughs with dragon and tiger tattoos and dyed hair having a merry time, as if they were having some sort of street festival.
Loud, energetic music played from speakers on top of the cars.
It was like a dance of demons.
"Warn them to clear the road immediately!" Aoyama Xiu Xin’s face was an iron blue, surmising that these must have been people Tanaka Guikuma sent specifically to slow them down.
"Hey!" Fujiwara Takahiro responded, then walked forward with a stern face and yelled, "We are from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division, carrying out an urgent mission. Clear the road right now!"
Upon hearing these words, the twenty or thirty Violent Gang members on the opposite side were dismissive and laughed.
"Hey, look, Tokyo Metropolitan Police eh, First Investigative Division eh, how scary, how impressive. Is it illegal to dance on the streets? You’ve got to be kidding!"
"That’s right, is there a law that says we don’t have the right to use the road? Is this discrimination? Plus, officer, this is Osaka, not your Tokyo!"
"You either roll back from where you came or go another way, but tonight there might be parties at other intersections too. So what if you have guns? Just because you speak loudly doesn’t mean you’re right. Want to bet I’ll file a complaint for intimidation!"
The local Violent Gangs in Osaka were kept like dogs by Tanaka Guikuma; they were all in the same boat. The low-ranking members were unaware of the weight of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, only knowing that in Osaka, President Tanaka ruled supreme. As long as they had Tanaka Guikuma’s backing, they would dare to do anything.
And the Violent Gang’s higher-ups certainly knew the risks of confronting the Police Headquarters, but their relationship with Tanaka Guikuma had long been inseparable—they shared both glory and ruin—so they had no choice but to brace themselves and comply.
"Bang bang bang bang bang!"
At that moment, the faint sound of gunfire came through.
A shootout had already begun in Shangben Town Sixth District.
"Fujiwara." Just as Fujiwara Takahiro’s heart was racing, Aoyama Xiu Xin’s deep and husky voice came through the walkie-talkie, calling out his name without any further words.
But Fujiwara Takahiro had understood Aoyama Xiu Xin’s meaning; with a wave of his hand, more than a dozen armed police officers immediately stepped forward, raising their guns at the Violent Gang members.
Some orders Aoyama Xiu Xin couldn’t issue directly—this was when the subordinates had to take the fall.
"I’ll ask one more time, are you moving or not!" Fujiwara Takahiro’s hand had already reached his holster, his face ferocious.
Dozens of Violent Gang members, far from being frightened by this, gathered together and took a unanimous step forward, "If you have the guts, shoot! If not, stop trying to scare us with your toy gun!"
"Bang bang bang bang bang!"
The distant gunshots grew more and more rapid.
"Bang bang!" Fujiwara Takahiro decisively drew his gun and fired into the sky, his eyes bloodshot, "Are you moving or not!"
At this, many of the Violent Gang members across from him sensed something off about his mental state and became fearful, exchanging glances and instinctively stepping back.
"What, haven’t we seen guns before!" The leading middle-aged man with dyed blond hair bravely stepped forward, glaring viciously at Fujiwara Takahiro, "If you dare, shoot me first!"
What does it mean to be a leader? Why can one be a leader?
It’s because at critical moments, one takes responsibility and dares to step forward to shoulder the burden—but sometimes, that burden isn’t the situation.
It’s bullets.
"Go to hell!" Fujiwara Takahiro cursed through gritted teeth and raised his gun to aim at the man, pulling the trigger.
"Bang!"
The blond middle-aged man immediately fell to the ground, shot in the chest, as blood kept pouring from the bullet hole and his body twitched slightly.
The other Violent Gang members were dumbstruck.
Man, did you seriously just shoot!
Before they could react, Fujiwara Takahiro hysterically shouted, "Fire! Immediately kill these terrorists who are attacking law enforcement officers!"
"Bang bang bang bang bang!"
Rapid gunfire burst out like firecrackers.
"Ah!"
"Don’t kill me!" "The police are killing people!"
The formerly arrogant Violent Gang members were now scrambling to flee in a panic, those moving too slowly were shot dead on the spot, falling into pools of blood.
Within less than ten seconds of the gunfire starting, the twenty or thirty Black Society members gathered at the scene had scattered without a trace, leaving only two or three bodies, and seven or eight injured people lying on the ground, wailing continuously.
"Move the car immediately, clear the road!" Fujiwara Takahiro holstered his weapon and shouted, before taking the lead and moving a vehicle blocking the road.
Others followed suit, those who could drive drove, those who could carry helped, quickly clearing the congested road for the main force to pass through rapidly.
Sitting in the car, Aoyama Xiu Xin glanced emotionlessly out the window at the bodies and injured persons carried to the roadside, his gaze indifferent, showing no fluctuation.
.........
Shangben Town Sixth District.
The gunfight continued, with non-stop gunfire.
Nakamura Shinichi and his team of seven were barely holding their own against the attackers with the advantage of good terrain, but as their ammunition dwindled, they were quickly falling into a disadvantageous position.
What’s more, one man was already dead and two injured.
"Bang! Bang bang bang bang bang!"
"Hold on! Just a bit longer! Police Headquarters are almost here!" Nakamura Shinichi shouted through gritted teeth.
Oda, who had been shot in the arm, pressed down on a colleague’s abdominal wound and bellowed with bloodshot eyes, "If he doesn’t get medical treatment soon, he’s going to bleed out!"
"Idiot!" Nakamura Shinichi was furious. They had never suffered like this during battles with criminals, yet now they were left with heavy casualties due to being attacked by their own people.
Chongtian Xingping kept glancing at his watch, anxiety clearly written on his face, "Another squad for reinforcement!"
"Minister, that’s useless, there’s only one entrance to the building; more people actually makes it harder to deploy," a subordinate hurriedly advised upon hearing this.
"Then tell them to fight harder! We must eliminate these vicious criminals! Avenge our fallen brothers!" Chongtian Xingping roared with anger.
"Woo woo woo woo woo—"
Suddenly, the piercing sound of sirens blared.
Chongtian reflexively looked toward the direction of the sound and saw more than twenty police cars with flashing lights and wailing sirens rushing towards them.
His heart skipped a beat.
Done for, Tanaka Guikuma didn’t manage to hold them back.
"Cease the attack immediately! We are from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Investigation Section, the people inside are our colleagues, officers at the front stop firing immediately!"
"Cease the attack immediately! We are..."
While shouting, the Police Headquarters personnel disembarked and used their cars for cover, aiming their guns toward the Osaka Prefecture Police opposite them, as if ready to shoot at any moment.
"Are they really from the Metropolitan Police Department?"
"Didn’t the Minister say they were fake?"
"What is going on here? Surely we can’t really be exchanging fire with our colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Department forever, can we?"
Hearing the calls, the attacking assault groups immediately powered down and retreated, while the other officers in charge of the perimeter were filled with distrust and confusion, with a lot of discussion.
Some leaders from the Osaka Prefecture Police Headquarters looked at Chongtian Xingping with suspicion and vigilance, while others were filled with bewilderment and unrest.
"The Metropolitan Police have finally come."
Upstairs in the bedroom, Nakamura Shinichi finally exhaled a long sigh of relief and collapsed on the floor in a seated position.
There was nothing left but the sound of sirens inside and outside the building.
