Chapter 393: Chapter 350: The Shelter of Justice, Yanchuan Xianyou’s Summons (Vote for Monthly Pass!)

In the wee hours of the morning, the night was deathly quiet.

In a dark Tokyo park, where no human shadows could be seen, a dim streetlight illuminated a long bench where Edogawa Renju sat, lost in thoughts and smoking a cigarette amidst internal anguish.

Scenes of his past interactions with Heize Tian’an flashed through his mind like a movie, finally pausing on the face of his friend who died with eyes wide open.

Edogawa Renju shut his eyes, his expression one of agonizing pain.

He would be tormented by his conscience forever—unless he decided to abandon it. But if he discarded his conscience, what was the point of taking down Aoyama Xiu Xin? Why not just switch sides?

"Tap, tap, tap—"

Along with the sound of light footsteps, Nakamura Tatsuyuki, clad in a beige trench coat, approached. From afar, he called out, "Renju-san, calling me out this late, could it be that Aoyama Xiu Xin has made a move?"

Edogawa Renju seemed not to hear, his eyes hollow, mechanically taking puff after puff of his cigarette.

Curlicues of smoke swirled and dispersed before him.

"What has actually happened?" Nakamura Tatsuyuki, upon coming closer and seeing his pallor, pressed him urgently.

It was then that Edogawa Renju regained his senses, his body sliding down until his knees hit the ground with a thud, and he began to sob uncontrollably, crying and pounding the ground.

"Renju-san! Edogawa Renju! What on earth are you doing! Get up!" Alarmed by the scene, Nakamura Tatsuyuki scrambled to lift him.

Edogawa Renju wailed heart-wrenchingly, snot and tears mingling as he clung to Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s legs, his body limp as if boneless, unable to be lifted, as he sobbed intermittently, "I... I killed Mr. Heize."

Admitting this to Nakamura Tatsuyuki was undoubtedly a great pressure, but he had no choice. If he didn’t speak up and allowed Nakamura Tatsuyuki to hear it from Aoyama Xiu Xin instead, it would only breed suspicion.

"What did you just say!" Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s motion of helping him froze, his face one of disbelief as he blurted out. Then he grabbed the collar of Edogawa Renju’s shirt and shook him, "Edogawa-kun! What did you just say? Do you realize what you’re saying?"

"Woo hoo hoo, I killed Mr. Heize, I’m not human, I deserve to die, I should die!" Edogawa Renju cried out as he clung to Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s legs.

Nakamura Tatsuyuki, as if struck by lightning, staggered nearly collapsing, took a deep breath to steady his mind, and asked through clenched teeth, "What exactly happened!"

Edogawa Renju just shook his head as he continued to cry.

"Smack!" Nakamura Tatsuyuki lifted his hand and delivered a heavy slap across his face, his eyes red with fury as he shouted, "Edogawa Renju! Pull yourself together! Tell me what has happened, I need to know everything!"

"Sniffle! Sniffle!" Edogawa Renju sniffled, nodding continuously, and said between sobs, "Today, Aoyama Xiu Xin arranged for Heize-kun and me to carry out a capture mission together. But on the way to the location, I received his call, which stated that since it was known that Mr. Heize was your man, he ordered me to kill him."

"For secrecy and convenience, my phone was taken away before we set off, so I had no chance to consult with you, and the situation was urgent. There was no time for me to think carefully about a strategy. If I hadn’t killed Mr. Heize, it would have meant losing Aoyama Xiu Xin’s trust, and all our efforts would have been in vain, so I... whimper..."

Edogawa Renju couldn’t finish his sentence.

But Nakamura Tatsuyuki could already fill in the blanks.

"Damn it! Aoyama Xiu Xin, that vicious bastard!" Nakamura Tatsuyuki cursed through clenched teeth.

He believed that Aoyama Xiu Xin having Edogawa Renju kill Heize Tian’an was not solely to eliminate an undercover operative but also to further test Renju’s loyalty.

As someone on the side of good, he still had a morsel of conscience, and it tormented him to think of Heize Tian’an’s death being his responsibility.

However, looking at Edogawa Renju, racked with self-reproach and unable to stop crying, Nakamura Tatsuyuki knew he had to keep his composure and said, "Renju-san, Heize-kun didn’t die in vain. He gave his life to take down Nozawa Finance, he’s a hero! So those of us who are alive must not let his sacrifice be in vain!"

"Although he’s gone, Aoyama Xiu Xin now completely trusts you without reservation, laying a solid foundation to further dismantle Nozawa Finance and expose Aoyama Xiu Xin’s criminal activities!"

"To destroy Nozawa Finance and arrest Aoyama Xiu Xin would be the best solace for his departed soul. He would feel his death had meaning. I believe he wouldn’t blame you in the afterlife."

Heize Tian’an: Are you fucking kidding me?

"Minister Nakamura, you’re right, I’ll definitely avenge him!" Edogawa Renju wiped away his tears and promised resolutely.

Nakamura Tatsuyuki gave him a firm pat on the shoulder.

From a legal standpoint, he should prosecute Edogawa Renju, but the priority was to dismantle Nozawa Finance, so he had to cover for him.

Meanwhile, Aoyama Xiu Xin was watching the surveillance video of Edogawa Renju committing murder.

Although the footage was blurry and without sound,

it was still possible to identify the two figures in the video as Edogawa Renju and Heize Tian’an. Seeing Edogawa Renju launch a surprise attack on Heize Tian’an from behind, a faint smile curled on Aoyama Xiu Xin’s lips.

"Tsks tsk tsk, how cruel to strike down a comrade with whom he’d once been through life and death," he mused.

Upon reflection, Aoyama Xiu Xin doubted he could have done the same; after all, although he was cold as frost towards his enemies, he was warm-hearted towards his friends.

This also set off an alarm in his head.

With Edogawa Renju capable of such ruthlessness when cornered, he might act desperately and take a gamble.

So, when it was time to take him down, it had to be a swift, fatal blow, leaving no chance for a dying struggle.

After watching the video, Aoyama Xiu Xin grabbed the phone on the desk and called Nakamura Tatsuyuki. He figured the guy was probably with Edogawa Renju right now.

"Shh." In the silent park, the sudden ring of the phone was stark. Nakamura Tatsuyuki gave Edogawa Renju a gesture to keep quiet, a sign to stop crying, and then answered the phone, "Mosi Mosi."

"Ah, Minister Nakamura, I hope my call hasn’t disturbed you at this late hour. This is Aoyama Xiu Xin," Aoyama Xiu Xin said lightly, leaning back in his chair, legs comfortably propped on the desk.

Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s face darkened, his grip on the cordless phone unconsciously tightening, struggling to keep anger at bay as he spoke in a low voice, "What can Police Chief Aoyama advise me?"

"Heh, you’re my senior, my superior, I wouldn’t presume to offer advice," Aoyama Xiu Xin quipped with a sarcastic politeness and then sighed deeply with feigned sorrow, "Minister Nakamura, I am calling to inform you of some unfortunate news. Heize Tian’an, the police chief whom you valued and promoted to the Police Headquarters, has unfortunately fallen in tonight’s operation. I hope you can grieve with dignity."

"What?" Though Nakamura Tatsuyuki was already aware of this news, he had to act as if it had just come to his ears, with both shock and rage, "What did you just say? Aoyama Xiu Xin, you bastard, did you have a hand in this?"

"Idiot! Minister Nakamura, we both work in justice, don’t you know that we must speak with evidence? Don’t spit blood at me! You defame my innocence!" Aoyama Xiu Xin spoke righteously.

Then his tone shifted, heavy with sorrow, "Heize Tian’an was known for his valor and fame. It’s something I didn’t want to see happen either. I’m heartbroken, pfft—so upset, pfft—hahaha, really, ha. Now, I can only use laughter to mask the sorrow in my heart."

Listening to that unbridled laughter, Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s face twisted in fury, wishing he could tear the man apart.

"Aoyama Xiu Xin, you..."

"Good night, perhaps Heize Chief will visit you in your dreams," Aoyama Xiu Xin interrupted before Nakamura Tatsuyuki could vent his emotions and hung up.

"Tone-tone-tone," as he listened to the busy signal on the phone, Nakamura Tatsuyuki, who was about to thunder with rage, felt stifled and short of breath, his vision going dark. It took a moment before he recovered, hysterically cursing, "Idiot!"

In his office, Aoyama Xiu Xin got up in a great mood and stretched lazily, ready to head home from work.

"Knock-knock-knock!" A sudden knock on the door sounded.

Aoyama Xiu Xin raised an eyebrow, "Come in."

The door then opened, and Asakura Yurong, with her hair done up, dressed in a black suit with black trousers and black heels, entered and bowed slightly, "Police Chief."

"Chief Asakara, why are you still here so late? Is something the matter?" Aoyama Xiu Xin said while twisting his head to ease his stiff neck.

Asakura Yurong seemed nervous and apprehensive, took a deep breath, and with a flushed face said, "Police Chief, it seems that something’s grown on me. Could you have a look for me?"

"Hmm?" Aoyama Xiu Xin stared blankly at her.

Asakura Yurong at first mustered the courage to meet his gaze, but soon her head bowed lower and lower, her body tensed up, her fingers fidgeting restlessly.

A hint of a smirk curled on Aoyama Xiu Xin’s lips, "Sure, I wonder where it could be. Please let me have a look."

"Hi! Thanks, Police Chief," Asakura Yurong’s voice trembled as she spoke, then with her head down, she turned her back to Aoyama Xiu Xin, bent over in shame, her eyes closed, and her small hands unfastening her belt. Her buttocks, clad in black silk, slowly appeared before Aoyama Xiu Xin.

Aoyama Xiu Xin walked over, patted her lightly, and said, "Chief Asakara, I don’t see anything unusual, perhaps it’s inside, what do you think?"

"Hi!" Asakura Yurong’s face turned so red it seemed it might bleed, eyes tightly closed, she extended her hands voluntarily, the intense shame nearly made her faint.

But she had no other choice. Aoyama Xiu Xin had stopped harassing her lately, forcing her to take the initiative.

She had waited until nearly everyone had left before knocking, hoping to turn the tide tonight.

Aoyama Xiu Xin suddenly took a sharp breath.

But he forcefully held back and after a careful look, spoke earnestly, "Chief Asakara, I do not see anything abnormal on your body. Perhaps it was a mistake. It’s late; you should head home and rest. We have work tomorrow."

Asakura Yurong opened her eyes, her face alternating between pale and flushed with shame and embarrassment. She shook visibly with humiliation.

"Chief Asakara, what’s wrong? Are you okay?" Aoyama Xiu Xin feigned concern.

"No, nothing," Asakura Yurong took a deep breath, shook her head, and withstood the embarrassment. She quickly pulled up her trousers and almost fled the office.

Aoyama Xiu Xin chuckled softly, it was all deliberate. This was far more interesting than just going for it.

In the blink of an eye, it was already December 10th.

Over the past few days, Yehua Yiren, using a mix of carrot and stick, made the shareholders of East Field Construction Corporation realize that the situation was hopeless. They started selling their shares at a fair price and withdrawing from the company willingly.

Now, Aoyama Xiu Xin effectively controlled East Field Construction Corporation, while Dongye Yuusei, as expected, remained lost in gambling, sinking deeper into debt.

After taking over East Field Construction, Aoyama Xiu Xin had no intention of renaming it. After all, the less his businesses seemed related to him, the better. Staying lowkey and making money was the ultimate goal.

He had originally planned to meet with Ito Sei and other officers of the Land Guard to discuss an investment, but unexpectedly he received a call from Yanchuan Xianyou summoning him to meet.

Reluctantly, he had to reschedule his meeting with the Land Guard officers for that evening and, to apologize, he offered to choose the venue and host the evening’s gathering.

After delegating the responsibility for the evening’s arrangements to Nozawa Yi, Aoyama Xiu Xin headed to Yanchuan Xianyou’s house.

He wondered what the big brother wanted to see him for.
