Chapter 388: Chapter 346: Boring Emotional Tricks! Little Ghosts Knocking at the Door (Seeking Monthly Votes)
As the waning moon hung like a hook in the late night, twinkling stars studded the sky as dark as ink, seemingly responding to the brilliant neon lights of Tokyo, the city that never sleeps.
In Shinagawa District’s Ooka Central Park, it was cold and deserted, with no one around. Under the dim streetlights, a group of moths circled while the sound of insects chirped from the bushes.
Along with heavy footsteps, a startled wild cat shot into the woods and disappeared. Under the streetlight, a figure’s shadow stretched long. Shinichi Nakamura, dressed in a black suit, sat down on the bench, placed a briefcase at his feet, and lit up a cigarette.
He glanced at his watch now and then. As the hands approached eleven o’clock, he finally saw Yuki Suzuki in a white dress slowly walking towards him.
"I thought you wouldn’t dare to come tonight. Punctuality for such matters," Shinichi Nakamura said sarcastically.
Yuki Suzuki didn’t dare confront him, stopping a few meters away and getting straight to the point, "Where’s the money?"
Shinichi Nakamura casually picked up the briefcase and tossed it over.
"Clang!"
The case landed heavily on the ground, startling Yuki Suzuki, who took a step back. Then, she looked up nervously at Shinichi Nakamura, saw that he was still smoking, mustered up her courage, and slowly approached. She crouched down and opened the briefcase.
"Snap!"
With the crisp sound of the locks popping open, the lid of the case swung upwards, revealing stack upon stack of neatly arranged banknotes. Yuki Suzuki couldn’t help but smile.
Then she snapped the case shut, stood up, and hugged it tightly to her chest, cautiously telling Shinichi Nakamura, "I’ll be going if there’s nothing else."
"Keep your mouth shut and leave Japan," Shinichi Nakamura flicked his cigarette ash, his tone cold.
Having successfully blackmailed him, Yuki Suzuki’s fear of Shinichi Nakamura had diminished a lot. She retorted without thinking, "Don’t worry, you don’t need to tell me."
Shinichi Nakamura narrowed his eyes and remained silent.
Yuki Suzuki snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Yet her heart was already filled with regret for not asking for more. One million US dollars seemed not so much after all, not enough for the rest of her life.
If the first blackmail attempt was successful, the second and third would certainly work too. She’d deal with it after the money was spent.
After all, he had made a good two hundred million US dollars himself. Giving her a few million more wouldn’t matter, it was just a drop in the bucket.
Engrossed in her thoughts, Yuki Suzuki walked out of the park onto the road, just in time to see a taxi parked there. She got in without a second thought.
She didn’t have a car. The sports car she had used before was provided by Shinichi Nakamura. Apart from a pile of luxury bags and jewelry, she didn’t really have much money.
"Miss, where to?"
The taxi driver’s voice was calm.
Yuki Suzuki said a place name without looking up.
The taxi lit up and started off smoothly. With the acceleration, the taillights were soon swallowed by the darkness.
Shinichi Nakamura sat silently in the same spot until he finished the cigarette, then he stubbed it out and pocketed it, standing up to leave.
Dark clouds drifted from a distance, covering the cold moon and the stars. The wind rustled tree branches, thunder blasted, and a drizzle turned into a downpour.
The battering rain was swept along by the howling wind, pouring down as if someone was emptying water from the sky.
At eleven thirty at night, Yuki Suzuki took a taxi to a house she had rented temporarily.
After paying the fare, she held the cash box and dashed through the rain to the doorstep, then pulled out her keys to unlock the door, went inside, and was about to close the door when suddenly a large hand appeared, grabbing the doorframe to prevent her from shutting it.
Yuki Suzuki’s face drained of color on the spot, and then she tried to close the door with greater effort, but the person outside yanked it forcefully and the door instantly swung open wide.
Yuki Suzuki, inside the house, was forced to let go and stumbled backwards, falling to the ground. A dark figure appeared before her, and she instinctively looked up to see a tall and strong figure at the doorway, wearing a baseball cap, as the wind and rain poured in around him, splattering against Yuki Suzuki’s face.
"Boom!"
A lightning bolt tore across the sky, casting a ghastly light on the man’s face at the door, causing Yuki Suzuki to cry out in shock, her face filled with terror as she scrambled backwards.
It was the taxi driver from before.
"Clang!"
The taxi driver stepped into the entryway, closing the door behind him against Yuki Suzuki’s fearful and desperate gaze.
"No, don’t kill me! The money’s here, all yours, I don’t want it, not a penny!"
Yuki Suzuki pleaded tearfully; she could guess this person was arranged by Shinichi Nakamura.
"The Police Chief told me to tell you, since your suicide note is already written, we might as well make use of it," the taxi driver said calmly, slowly pulling on a pair of white gloves as he spoke.
"Please, please spare me, I won’t be greedy anymore," Yuki Suzuki was terrified, attempting to seduce him with her beauty, reaching to tear open the front of her dress.
"Boring sex tricks," the disinterested taxi driver laughed coldly, ignoring the deep valley of her chest. He stepped forward, grabbed her hair, and yanked her forward, then wrapped his hands tightly around her throat and began to squeeze, "The Police Chief also said, if you have anything else to say, he can have it inscribed on your tombstone."
"Guh—guh—guh—"
Yuki Suzuki tried to speak, but couldn’t utter a complete sentence, only making choking noises.
"Heh, it seems you have nothing to say," the taxi driver, still clutching her throat, chuckled maliciously.
Suzuki Yuki unconsciously slapped the taxi driver’s hands, feeling her breath growing more and more difficult, her strength on the hands waning, her consciousness increasingly blurry.
Finally, her hands completely drooped, her eyes wide open, breathing ceased, and she died of asphyxiation.
"Hoo—"
The taxi driver let out a breath, then stood up and took out the small tool he carried for committing crimes to clean the fingerprints on the door frame, and proceeded to ransack the house, taking all the valuable jewelry he could find.
Of course, this was just him taking an opportunity to make some extra cash and also to stage the scene as a burglary and murder. His real purpose was to find the suicide note written by Suzuki Yuki.
He searched for a long time and couldn’t find it, and just as he was sitting powerless on the sofa resting, he found the suicide note lying on the coffee table in the living room, leaving him somewhat speechless.
Suzuki Yuki, to prevent the possibility that she wouldn’t return from withdrawing money tonight, had made a special early arrangement for her best friend to come to her house tomorrow morning. In order for her friend to find the suicide note, she placed it in the most conspicuous spot.
After finding the suicide note, the taxi driver calmly cleaned up the traces at the scene before leaving.
He was actually a police officer under the command of Nakamura Shinichi, professional in solving cases, and even more professional in committing crimes. And, without any surprises, he was going to be responsible for this case tomorrow.
At midnight, Nakamura Shinichi received the suicide note and let out a sneer, casually destroying it, planning to report to Aoyama Xiu Xin tomorrow morning in order not to disturb him tonight, as after all, it was just an insignificant matter.
.........
The next day, December 2nd, it kept raining, only it had turned from last night’s downpour into a drizzle.
After washing up, Aoyama Xiu Xin went downstairs, and from the staircase, looked down at his sister-in-law who was tantalizing as ever, bending over to arrange breakfast at the table. The rounded contours of her hips under her kimono were as revealing as a ripe peach.
He walked down quietly and slapped her.
Slap~ her flesh trembled softly.
"Ah!" Aoyama Haruko cried out in pain and turned her head to reproach him coquettishly, "That really hurts, you know."
"Does it? Let me massage it for you, sister-in-law." Aoyama Xiu Xin immediately showed concern, reaching his hands to her full moons and started kneading with just the right amount of force.
Aoyama Haruko’s pretty face flushed, she gasped lightly and pushed him away, "Xiu Xin, stop messing around and sit down to eat, otherwise the breakfast will get cold."
"Beauty can be distracting," Aoyama Xiu Xin said, planting a kiss on her face, suppressing the urge to pounce on her and let go, reminding her with a meaningful tone, "Don’t forget, my birthday is in the middle of this month."
Aoyama Haruko blushed and huffed lightly, biting her red lip without responding, but she took note.
"Ding-a-ling! Ding-a-ling!"
Just then, the sound of a telephone ringing arose.
"Sister-in-law, you eat first." Aoyama Xiu Xin set down the bowl and chopsticks he had just picked up, walked to the living room, picked up the telephone handset, and answered with abrupt seriousness, "Speak."
"Police Chief, this is Shinichi. The woman has been silenced forever," Nakamura Shinichi said solemnly.
Aoyama Xiu Xin showed no emotional fluctuations, simply replied with a "Hmm" and hung up the phone.
As if nothing had happened, he walked back to the dining table.
"What was it?" The sister-in-law asked curiously.
"An annoying cockroach, just needed to be squashed. And it even gave me a phone call to report," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a resigned smile and sat down to eat.
Aoyama Haruko teased, "You must be too domineering in your work, subordinates are all afraid of you."
"Not at all, I’m quite amiable. They say seeing me is like seeing a father," Aoyama Xiu Xin shook his head, refusing to acknowledge this point.
For example, subordinates like Asai Ayumi and Asakura Yurong both called him dad, doesn’t that prove the point?
Aoyama Haruko chuckled and said no more.
After a satisfying meal, Aoyama Xiu Xin went to the Police Headquarters for work. Just out of the elevator, he saw two people standing at the door of his office, chatting.
He recognized them at a glance, one was Edogawa Ren Shu, the other was Heize Tian’an, whom he had seen in the files.
"Police Chief!"
The two also saw Aoyama Xiu Xin, immediately stopped chatting, and turned around bowing respectfully.
"You’re Heize Chief, right? The Director has already notified me about you, welcome to the force," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a smile as he shook hands with Heize Tian’an, then turned to Edogawa Ren Shu and asked, "What, you two know each other?"
"Yes." Edogawa Ren Shu admitted breezily, punched Heize Tian’an on the shoulder and said, "Heize used to work with me at the same station; when I found out he was also transferred to the Police Headquarters, I specifically brought him over to report."
Aoyama Xiu Xin’s eyes narrowed slightly; Heize had proactively contacted Edogawa Ren Shu – did he know the latter was brought in by him and wanted to rely on him to get close to himself?
Or perhaps, Nakamura Tatsuyuki’s decision to pick Heize Tian’an as an undercover, is this one of the reasons?
"Please look after me, Police Chief Aoyama," Heize Tian’an said seemingly without a trace of humor, very seriously.
Aoyama Xiu Xin laughed it off, "With Minister Nakamura Tatsuyuki backing you, you don’t need my attention."
Upon hearing this, Edogawa Ren Shu’s face instantly changed, subtly distancing himself from Heize Tian’an.
Aoyama Xiu Xin observed this scene with a smile and said, "I’ve got work to do, so let Edogawa Police Chief take you to your office to meet your future subordinates, it’s perfect since you guys are old friends."
"Alright!" Heize Tian’an bowed in response.
Edogawa Ren Shu gave Aoyama Xiu Xin an uneasy look before leading Heize away.
Turning to watch their retreating backs, Aoyama Xiu Xin’s eyes squeezed into a line, then the furrow in his brow gradually eased as he stepped into his office.
He picked up the phone and called Yoshikai Yoshitsune, "Have you found out about what I asked you to look into yesterday? Bring it to me."
