Chapter 372: Chapter 335: I Know How High the Mound of Earth on Your Grave Is
November 14, overcast.
The sky was shrouded with dark clouds, as if a downpour was imminent, and gusts of cold, damp wind blew, rustling the treetops.
At 8:40 in the morning, after having breakfast, Dongye Gen sat in his bulletproof sedan and the chauffeur slowly drove out of the villa’s gates, heading toward the company.
Sitting in the backseat with his legs crossed, Dongye Gen glanced through the car window at the gloomy sky, a look of annoyance creasing his brow as he casually picked up a newspaper.
The car had been driving for approximately 10 minutes when, following the chauffeur’s depressing of the brakes, it gradually slowed down.
Eventually, it came to a stop in the middle of the road.
"Why have we suddenly stopped?" Dongye Gen pulled aside the small partition between the front and rear seats and asked with displeasure.
The driver pointed through the windshield at a minivan stopped in the middle of the road. "Boss, it looks like that car’s broken down. I’ll go see what’s the matter."
It was a silver minivan, its rear facing them. It wasn’t parked straight, so one could see the hood lifted with someone working on the car.
"Make it quick." Dongye Gen checked his watch. He had a meeting that morning and couldn’t afford to be delayed.
"Hi!" The driver nodded slightly and then opened the door to walk over to the minivan. The man who was so obsequious in front of Dongye Gen now approached with a swagger, kicking the back of the minivan and impatiently saying, "Hey, hey, hey, what’s the holdup? Hurry and move this heap of junk; it’s blocking my boss’s way!"
However, the person fixing the car at the front seemed to have not heard him, or perhaps couldn’t be bothered to respond, and continued working without acknowledging him.
"Idiot!" Ignored, the driver became somewhat infuriated, cursing as he moved toward the front of the car, "Are you deaf or some...?"
Suddenly, his voice cut off abruptly, for he had just gotten a clear look at the "mechanic" who was securely masked and hatted, with their face tightly wrapped.
The chauffeur immediately realized something was amiss.
But before he could react, the man put down the wrench and drew a gun, pointing it at the driver’s head.
"Ah! Don’t... Don’t kill me! Please!"
Facing the barrel of the gun, the driver instantly turned pale and raised his hands pleadingly.
After subduing the driver, the doors of the minivan flew open, and four men with their faces also covered, one of them being Big Back Head, rushed out, guns drawn, and charged directly at Dongye Gen’s car.
Dongye Gen, who had been keeping an eye on the activity ahead, was utterly shocked and hurriedly pressed a button to lock the car doors, then snatched up his phone to quickly dial the emergency number. "110, I’m being kidnapped..."
Suddenly, he stopped speaking mid-sentence, mouth agape.
Because Big Back Head had already stuck a remote-controlled bomb on the car window and was now waving a small remote at him, his finger poised to press it.
"Sir! Sir, are you alright? Tell me your location now! Sir? Sir, can you hear me?" the police officer on the line kept asking.
"It’s... it’s nothing now." Dongye Gen said dryly, then hung up the phone, as he might be dead before the police arrived.
Big Back Head shook the remote, then gestured to Dongye Gen through the window, "Please get out of the car."
Dongye Gen took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm, then pushed open the car door. Before he could even brace himself to step out willingly, he was yanked out and staggered toward the minivan.
"Don’t be like this, don’t do this. You’re clearly just after money; I’m willing to cooperate. After all, money is surely not as important as my life. I can walk by myself, I’ll walk."
Dongye Gen struggled to speak in a calm tone.
"Oh, facing danger without fear. You truly live up to the title of a big boss." Big Back Head laughed heartily, walked up to Dongye Gen, and clapped a hand on his shoulder, pressing his forehead against Dongye Gen’s, "The economy’s not doing great this year, and rich guys like you shouldn’t mind helping out us poor brothers. Let’s tally up your worth... It wouldn’t be too much to ask for 100 million US dollars from you, right?"
"How tall do you think a stack of 100 million US dollars would be?" Dongye Gen couldn’t help but retort sarcastically.
Even though he was indeed wealthy, coming up with 100 million US dollars in cash on short notice was not a simple task.
"Slap!" Big Back Head raised his hand and slapped Dongye Gen across the face, grabbed his already sparse hair, and said coldly, "I don’t know how tall a stack of 100 million US dollars would be, idiot. But if you keep up that condescending and snarky tone, I’ll be sure to know how high the dirt over your grave could be piled!"
Listening to the blatant threat and feeling the searing pain on his face, Dongye Gen was both frustrated and helpless.
Truly, he was like a tiger fallen on flat ground, subjected to the dogs’ bullying!
"Take him." Big Back Head waved his hand, then walked over to the chauffeur Nozaki Cangjian had under control.
The driver, with a look of doom and gloom, said, "Big brother, I’m just a driver. I have no money; kidnapping me is pointless. You’ll just end up with another mouth to feed, honestly."
"I damn well know you’ve got no money." Big Back Head grabbed his ear, "Go tell Dongye Yuusei, if he doesn’t want his dad to die, to gather 100 million US dollars within three days and wait for my call. Don’t even think about calling the police. We’re only after the cash, but if he wants our lives, we’ll take his dad’s."
"Y-Yes! Of course!" The driver, who never thought he’d actually escape with his life, nodded repeatedly, overcome with joy.
Big Back Head kicked him, "Get lost!"
The driver quickly bent down and ran, not daring to even take the car, and sprinted in the direction of the Dongye family’s home.
"Move out." Big Back Head commanded.
The men swiftly got into the minivan and sped away.
...
The driver ran all the way home.
