Chapter 35: Chapter 34: The Fairy’s Leap, Competent at Work (Vote for Monthly Tickets! Seeking Followers!)

Since I hadn’t come home last night, Aoyama Xiu Xin hurried back early after work today.

"I’m back."

"Oh! It’s Xiu Xin, why did you come home so early today?" Aoyama Haruko, who was practicing yoga in the living room, hurriedly got up and quickly walked over to get his slippers.

Looking down at his sister-in-law crouching in front of him, Aoyama Xiu Xin felt somewhat helpless, "Eldest sister-in-law, I can do it myself."

He had said this several times before.

"No can do. A man of the house should enjoy and relax properly when he gets home after a hard day’s work outside." Aoyama Haruko smiled, raising her head, with a few beads of sweat on her fair forehead. A few strands of damp hair clung to her cheeks, her features gentle and attractive.

She wore a pink yoga outfit that outlined her curves and showed off her petite yet perfectly proportioned body. As she crouched down, the tight fabric accentuated her shapely, perky buttocks, beautifully rounded, which was enough to make one’s throat go dry.

Aoyama Xiu Xin had no choice but to avert his gaze.

Otherwise, it would be embarrassing if he couldn’t control his ’gun’.

Aoyama Haruko put away the shoes she had taken off, stood up, and said, "All right, go and rest. I’ll wash my hands and make tea for you. Oh, by the way, are you hungry, Xiu Xin?"

"Not really," Aoyama Xiu Xin shook his head and sat down on the sofa. Yoga outfits really should be outlawed.

You could see the layout of the house even in the clothes his eldest sister-in-law had on.

To say he didn’t want to move in would be a lie.

After all, who wouldn’t want to live in a nice house these days?

But that’s all one could do—just think about it.

Aoyama Haruko made tea in the kitchen and brought it over to Aoyama Xiu Xin, then sat beside him, pressing her hands on her thighs, tilting her head slightly, staring at him with a grin, "You must have worked very hard on overtime last night."

"Yeah!" Aoyama Xiu Xin replied, lifting the tea cup to hide his guilt. Last night had indeed been tough, especially since his boss, Asai Ayumi, was so skilled at exploiting her subordinates.

Aoyama Haruko pursed her lips sympathetically and extended her delicate fingers to poke at the dark circles under his eyes, "Look, you’ve got bags under your eyes. You have to rest well tonight."

"Yeah!" Aoyama Xiu Xin put down his teacup and changed the subject, "Is big brother coming back tomorrow or the day after?"

Time flies. Tomorrow would be Friday.

"Tomorrow evening. I went shopping today and bought a lot of groceries—everything your brother loves," Aoyama Haruko said with a face full of happiness and anticipation, and then quickly added, "Of course, there’s stuff you love too, Xiu Xin."

"What about you, eldest sister-in-law? Did you buy the vegetables you love?" Aoyama Xiu Xin asked with a smile.

With her husband returning, Aoyama Haruko was exceedingly joyful, her smile lingered on her lips, her eyes almost squinting into a line, "Whatever you guys love to eat, I love too."

I could cry, my sister-in-law is really too gentle.

"That serious brother of mine, always talking about family revival, yet he’s been sucking blood from the family up to now—how could he even manage to marry a woman like that!"

Aoyama Xiu Xin didn’t envy him at all, really.

Wuwuwu, he was jealous

At eight o’clock in the evening, the lanterns were just beginning to glow.

The neon lights dazzled on the streets of Tokyo, with a constant stream of cars and people.

In every pub, club, bubble bath, and karaoke bar, glitzy signs competed for attention, and posters of scantily clad young women dazzled the eyes.

Despite the economic downturn, despite people becoming "sky divers" every day because they couldn’t repay their loans, it still didn’t affect some people’s indulgence in a lifestyle of drunken revelry and opulent dreaminess.

Tonight, Fujimoto Ryosuke and Takahashi Tomoyuki were among them, currently in a private room of an upscale entertainment club, embracing hostesses as they drank and swapped cups.

"Ryosuke, see what I mean, as long as a man is wealthy and successful in his career, will he ever lack women?" Takahashi Tomoyuki, flushed and neck thickened, reached into a hostess’s clothes laughing heartily as he spoke.

It was someone else’s money, so feeling up was free—Fujimoto Ryosuke genuinely played the part of the lascivious old man, handsy with the woman in his embrace, reaching in as if plucking an object, earnestly agreeing, "You’re absolutely right, Minister, those are truly golden words that enlighten me profoundly."

But then he thought of something, and sighed.

"Hmm? Ryosuke, what’s the matter? You have fine wine and food before you, and a beauty in your arms, why the long face?" Takahashi Tomoyuki asked after a burp.

Fujimoto Ryosuke released the woman in his arms, drained his glass in one gulp, and sighed, "It’s just a pity that I come from a poor background; the phrase ’successful in my career’ will never apply to me in this lifetime. I can only enjoy this kind of life occasionally, thanks to the Minister’s care."

Then he downed another drink, his face filled with resentment, "After all, I’m not like Aoyama Xiu Xin, that guy—who, despite his mediocre abilities, can make a comeback even after making mistakes, just because of his illustrious family background."

"Mr. Liangyi, there’s an old Chinese saying, ’Thirty years in the east, thirty years in the west; who’s to say what the future holds?’" Takahashi Tomoyuki chuckled, then waved at the two women, "You two, step out for a moment."

"Understood!" The two hostesses stood up, straightened their clothes, and bowed deeply before turning to leave.

Fujimoto Ryosuke watched their retreating figures reluctantly, as if his soul had followed them out.

Takahashi Tomoyuki scorned him inwardly, thinking the man hadn’t enjoyed finer pleasures before, but outwardly he was all warmth, "Compared with some arrogant juniors from prominent backgrounds, I admire Mr. Liangyi’s ceaseless striving for improvement even more. Besides, Mr. Liangyi, you can rest easy. Aoyama Xiu Xin won’t have many good days left."

He had already looked into the conflict between Fujimoto Ryosuke and Aoyama Xiu Xin and understood what kind of person Fujimoto was, and how to manipulate him.

"This... what do you mean by that?" Fujimoto Ryosuke feigned surprise and confusion.

"Let me tell you the truth, Aoyama Xiu Xin has offended Sato Police Chief, and I’m here specifically to deal with him," Takahashi Tomoyuki got straight to the point, then began to paint a grand picture, "But I can’t personally take care of everything, so if Mr. Liangyi can help me, I’ll put in a good word for you with Sato Police Chief. Then what do you have to worry about your future prospects?"

"Is... is what you say true?" Fujimoto Ryosuke, as if dazed by an immense surprise, turned red with excitement. Before Takahashi Tomoyuki could answer, he hastily bowed to the ground, "Thank you for your patronage, Minister!"

Fujimoto Ryosuke’s reaction was expected by Takahashi Tomoyuki; after all, for a police inspector to personally recruit a mere Patrol Chief on behalf of a Sato Police Chief—it would be odd if he didn’t show fearful gratitude.

"Hahahahaha! I knew Mr. Liangyi was a smart man. Get up, get up. Tonight we won’t talk shop, only pleasure!" Takahashi Tomoyuki helped him up personally, then called the hostesses back in, "Come on, come on, continue the music, keep dancing."

Having easily won over Fujimoto Ryosuke, Takahashi Tomoyuki was filled with a sense of pride. Aoyama Xiu Xin was nothing—easily crushed with a snap of the fingers.

Fujimoto Ryosuke spent the entire time unabashedly flattering Takahashi Tomoyuki, with flattery flowing from his lips non-stop, as smooth as machine-gun fire, making him feel elated—a stark contrast to his former subservience under Sato.

Drink after drink of strong liquor was poured, and Takahashi Tomoyuki soon became drunkenly bleary-eyed and foggy-headed.

"Chief, you’re drunk. Let’s go."

"I’m not drunk, let go of me, I can still drink!"

"Fine, fine, let’s go drink at my house, at my house."

.........

At dawn, a streak of sunlight pierced through the gap in the curtains and landed on Takahashi Tomoyuki’s face. He twitched his eyelids and opened a sliver, then quickly closed them again. He raised his hand to block the piercing light before slowly opening his eyes again.

"Inspector Takahashi, you’re finally awake."

A calm voice reached his ears. Following the sound, Takahashi Tomoyuki saw Aoyama Xiu Xin and Fujimoto Ryosuke smiling at him. He was so startled that he jumped up like he was on springs, only then realizing that he was stark naked, which filled him with terror.

"What have you two done to me!"

He crossed his arms over his chest, his face full of humiliation and rage.

"Idiot! Who’s interested in you?" Aoyama Xiu Xin said in disgust, picking up a pair of pants from the ground and tossing them over, "Cover your worm. It’s not about what we did to you; it’s about what you, a man abusing his position, did to Liang Yi’s girlfriend!"

Takahashi Tomoyuki looked on blankly; he vaguely remembered sleeping with a woman last night, while fueled by alcohol.

But was that Fujimoto Ryosuke’s girlfriend?

An uneasy feeling was already brewing inside him.

"It seems Inspector Takahashi hasn’t sobered up yet. Liang Yi, help him remember." Aoyama Xiu Xin said.

"Sure!" Fujimoto Ryosuke smiled slightly, turned around, and tossed a stack of photos directly at Takahashi Tomoyuki.

The photos fluttered down like falling leaves.

Takahashi Tomoyuki grabbed a photo in a frenzy, turning white as a sheet. After looking at a few more, his body trembled, and he threw the photos back at Fujimoto Ryosuke and Aoyama Xiu Xin, yelling, "You framed me!"

The photos captured his intimate moments with a woman, clearly showing the woman’s terrified expression and her attempts to resist.

In simple terms, he had been set up.

"You’re right," Aoyama Xiu Xin nodded, his face calm with a mocking smile, "It is a setup. But you only care if this trick will work or not."

"Damn it, Aoyama!" Takahashi Tomoyuki’s face flushed with anger, and he felt intense frustration. He shouted after hurling himself at Aoyama Xiu Xin, "I’ll kill you!"

However, he had barely leaped into the air when he was kicked back onto the bed by Aoyama Xiu Xin, landing with a thud that left him dizzy and vomiting bile.

"If you can’t straighten out your attitude here, then I trust you’ll manage to do so in court."

Aoyama Xiu Xin straightened his tie, gave a detached smile, turned, and walked away, waving his hand dismissively, "Keep those photos as souvenirs. I have plenty more where those came from."

"Inspector, I’ll see you in court. I’ll get justice for my girlfriend," Fujimoto Ryosuke said, bowing to Takahashi Tomoyuki before turning to follow Aoyama Xiu Xin.

Takahashi Tomoyuki sat there stunned for a moment, then suddenly, he lunged from the bed, scrambling to grasp Aoyama Xiu Xin’s leg as he pleaded bitterly.

"No, please! Please don’t do this, Mr. Aoyama, Mr. Fujimoto, I’m begging you. I didn’t come this far only to have it all end like this!"

"I have money! I’ll give you whatever amount you ask, just don’t sue me, please, oh please don’t, waaah, please spare me!"

Takahashi Tomoyuki was wailing miserably, mucus and tears streaming down, banging his head repeatedly against the floor, the picture of pity.

As a police officer, he knew all too well that once those photos became public, it no longer mattered whether he was actually guilty; the court of public opinion would convict him, and the police were sure to handle him to calm the outrage.

Even if he were eventually found innocent, the best he could hope for would be to regain his former position, with no chance of further advancement.

And what official didn’t desire advancement?

"Come now, Inspector Takahashi, what are you doing? Get up and talk, you are our superior, after all!" said Aoyama Xiu Xin with exaggerated expression.

Takahashi Tomoyuki, like a groveling dog, raised his head with a face full of appeasement, "No, no, no, Mr. Aoyama. I like kneeling when I talk, love it, love kneeling."

Fujimoto Ryosuke was deeply moved by the scene.

Had he ever imagined that a day would come when an inspector would kneel before him? Yet, that scene was unfolding today.

When Aoyama Xiu Xin shared the plan with him.

He thought the man had gone crazy.

Indeed, it takes someone who dared to shoot his superior to perfectly execute a coup from below.

The bolder one is, the bigger the yield!

"Since Inspector Takahashi is so sincere, let’s talk about a settlement," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a slight smile, sitting down on a nearby sofa.

Fujimoto Ryosuke didn’t sit; he just stood to the side.

Takahashi Tomoyuki knelt down dejectedly.

Meanwhile, at Shinjuku Police Station, Asai Ayumi, holding a report, burst excitedly into the director’s office.

"Daddy! Important discovery!"

"What’s all this panic for?" Asai Youki put down his pen and chided with a frown, "And how many times have I told you, call me by my title at work!"

"Yes, sir!" Asai Ayumi quickly bowed, then reported again, "Senior Police Director, we’ve made an important discovery."
