Chapter 348: Chapter 317: What are you doing, I’m here for the meeting!_2
Her craftsmanship was indeed good.
But her footwork was even better.
...
November 2nd, Monday, the rain was unrelenting.
Driving to work, Aoyama Xiu Xin saw through the car window many homeless people huddled in corners to avoid the rain, which kindled a sense of compassion in him.
"Ah, these people are so pitiable."
He was always kind-hearted and could not bear to see such suffering.
So he planned, as soon as he had the power to legislate, to enact a law immediately to expel all the homeless from Tokyo on the grounds of impacting the city’s appearance!
Simply forbid begging, and there would be no beggars!
He also wanted to pass a law that all films could only shoot infantry scenes, and forbid cavalry scenes because, after all, if they were already making adult films, why add censor blur? It’s like taking off your pants just to fart.
It seriously affected the visual experience of the audience.
It even affected the tactile experience.
He believed that with this latter proposal, he would certainly gain the support of the vast majority of the Japanese people and probably many from overseas as well.
After arriving at the Internet Security Department, he went straight to the large office, as usual, to take a look but found the atmosphere was somewhat amiss.
He didn’t ask what was wrong but went directly to Asakura Yurong’s office, only to find the Deputy Director’s office empty, so he then headed to the First Department Chief’s office.
Sure enough, he saw Asakura Yurong there.
"Police Chief."
Seeing Aoyama Xiu Xin, Asakura Yurong quickly rose to meet him, her eyes rimmed with red, her face streaked with tears.
"Weren’t you told to move to the Deputy Director’s office and temporarily act as the Deputy Director?" said Aoyama Xiu Xin.
Asakura Yurong pursed her red lips, looked down, and spoke in a barely audible whisper, "Maybe let’s not do this, Police Chief Aoyama, I can’t handle it, I don’t have the qualifications or the achievements to command respect."
Aoyama Xiu Xin guessed what had happened.
Clearly, some did not accept Asakura Yurong, or to put it another way, the other two department chiefs did not accept her.
She had just been given a cold shoulder or heard some harsh words.
Thinking more deeply, it wasn’t that they were targeting Asakura Yurong but rather expressing dissatisfaction with himself.
After all, it was he who had promoted Asakura Yurong.
But Aoyama Xiu Xin had no choice; the Third Department Head was Kikumura Hazuma’s person, the Second Department Head was a fence-sitter who would side with anyone, and it was only Asakura Yurong whom he could easily manipulate.
If not her, then should he let the other two take the position? Those who were not absolutely loyal to him were absolutely disloyal! Such people Aoyama Xiu Xin would not employ.
His one rule for staffing was simple.
Ability was secondary, loyalty was paramount; after all, ability can be developed, but loyalty, if not there, will never exist.
"Do you know why they don’t accept you?" Aoyama Xiu Xin sat down opposite her and asked indifferently.
Asakura Yurong replied, "Because I don’t have the seniority they have, nor do I have any notable achievements."
She was just too honest.
No wonder she could be fooled twice.
"Nonsense!" Aoyama Xiu Xin sneered, raising his voice, "Am I older in seniority than the other chiefs? The Internet Security Department has just been established. You’re all starting from scratch, so who has any achievements to speak of?"
"You don’t need seniority or achievements; you have my support, and that’s enough! Call a meeting with everyone now, and those two men, trying to weaken your authority so you’d step down on your own, will definitely be deliberately late. Directly suspend them in the name of the Deputy Director and promote their deputies to act in their stead."
Suspending the two men would serve as a warning to others, asserting his authority. Promoting their deputies would win their support, and those who were promoted must back her if they hoped to remove the ’temporary’ from their titles.
"This... Isn’t this a bit much?" Asakura Yurong bit her red lip, feeling that this was too harsh; after all, the two had not made any serious mistakes to warrant suspension.
"This is an order," Aoyama Xiu Xin said coldly.
"Yes, sir!" Asakura Yurong could only comply.
"We need to take a strong stance. If they dare to cause trouble, arrest them on the grounds of obstructing official duties." Aoyama Xiu Xin said as he stood up, his hands braced on the desk, body leaning forward, a full sense of oppression in his tone, "Police Chief Asakura, you can lose your face, but don’t lose mine, got it?"
"Yes!" Asakura Yurong pursed her red lips.
Aoyama Xiu Xin patted her face, then sat down with a thud, "Go ahead, I’ll be waiting here for you."
Asakura Yurong bowed deeply and then walked out.
The meeting in the conference room would begin in ten minutes.
After receiving the notice, the ordinary members of the Internet Security Department hurried to the conference room, but only the Heads of the Second and Third Departments did not go. They were familiar with Asakura Yurong’s honest nature and deliberately exerted pressure on her in this way.
They expected her to resign when she could no longer withstand it, and then compete fairly for her position.
"What do you think that woman’s expression will be like in a bit?"
The Second Department Head drew on his cigarette, lounging carelessly.
"What else could it be? Narrendings she’ll have that teary pitiful look," the Third Department Head chuckled disdainfully, shaking off ash from his cigarette, "But that woman really has a great figure, no wonder Aoyama Xiu Xin likes her."
"Won’t Aoyama Xiu Xin hold a grudge against us for doing this?" the Second Department Head voiced some concern.
"Are you willing to let that woman lord over you forever?" the Third Department Head retorted before changing his tone, "Don’t worry, we haven’t made any principled mistakes. Everyone knows she was promoted by Aoyama Xiu Xin. If he were to personally confront us for her sake, it’d look bad and provoke widespread anger. He definitely won’t do that."
As the two approached the door of the conference room, they found two officers standing outside who stopped them as they neared.
"What’s this about, I’m here for the meeting!"
The Second Department Head scowled and rebuked.
"Sorry gentlemen, Chief Asakura has already suspended all your duties on grounds of insubordination. You’re not qualified to attend the meeting."
One of the officers spoke with a hard tone.
The two were taken aback, exchanging a look of shock and rage, their minds buzzing with noise. They hadn’t expected Asakura Yurong, the honest and straightforward woman, to suddenly lash out with a heavy blow.
Was it all a ruse to appear weak before enticing them into this? Sly!
"Idiot! By what right does she do this! We’re just a few minutes late! Let me through! I want to confront her! Asakura Yurong, come out!"
"Asakura Yurong, you whore serving men, what right do you have to suspend us? Come out here!"
Enraged beyond control, they tried to force their way in but were firmly blocked, left to only shout and yell towards the inside.
Separated by but a door, everyone inside the conference room heard the commotion outside, including Asakura Yurong, who couldn’t help feeling a bit panicked and guilty.
After all, she subconsciously felt that she was in the wrong.
"Police Chief, the two outside are disrupting the meeting’s order with their shouting. Should we expel them first?"
A young police chief stood up and said, having just been appointed by Asakura Yurong as the acting Head of the Second Department.
"Hmm." Asakura Yurong nodded with composure.
The young police chief looked around, "What are you all waiting for? Why aren’t you expelling the irrelevant personnel?"
It was essential to intensify the conflict, not allowing those two any chance of being forgiven by Chief Asakura—otherwise, his temporary position as Head could revert back to Deputy Chief.
"Yes!" Whether out of loyalty to Asakura Yurong or not, a large group of officers streamed out.
"Ah! Don’t hit me! Idiot, I’m your superior!"
"Chief Asakura, I know I was wrong!"
Asakura Yurong remained in place, listening to the cries of agony and pleas for mercy coming from outside, and her previously turbulent heart gradually calmed. The two men who had seemed so daunting no longer appeared so difficult to deal with.
At the same time, a certain exhilarating feeling crept into her heart—the realization she shouldn’t be afraid of them, but rather, they should fear and respect her. She was the one with higher authority, and she had Police Chief Aoyama to rely on.
Her gaze swept over the subordinates left in the conference room.
Seeing them respectful and dutiful, a stark contrast to their previous contempt, Chief Asakura reflected deeply. Police Chief Aoyama was right—turns out seniority and merit were truly dispensable.
Having him behind her was enough.
