Chapter 306: Chapter 285: Finally empathize, a corpse stirs up a thousand waves.
Miss Nakamori Akina was very annoyed tonight.
Because her ex-boyfriend had come to pester her again.
She had been too naive before, forgiving him several times, but each time she ended up being cheated on. This time she had even been driven to attempt suicide, yet he still had the audacity to ask her to get back together, which made her as angry as she was annoyed.
With the exception of Aoyama Xiu Xin.
She had never seen someone so shameless.
"Akinashi, open the door and let me in to explain, give me a chance to explain!" Kondo kept knocking on the door, begging pitifully.
"Go away, I don’t want to see you!" Miss Nakamori, leaning against the door with her eyes reddening, held back tears that seemed ready to flow at any moment, and sobbed with tightly pursed lips.
She truly loved Kondo, otherwise she wouldn’t have forgiven him repeatedly despite being cheated on. So even though she had already resolved to break up, her heart still ached immensely when he came knocking at her door.
If it had been before, she might have softened and made the same mistake again, but times had changed. Though Kondo still lived in her heart, it was Aoyama Xiu Xin who had her soul.
"Akinashi, how can you be so heartless? Not even willing to give me a chance to see you again!"
Kondo played the victim, his tone like a cuckoo shedding blood, pitiful as if he wasn’t the one who cheated repeatedly or drove his girlfriend to the brink of suicide.
"Just go, we’re not right for each other anymore."
Miss Nakamori murmured as if talking to herself.
"Why aren’t we right for each other? Why not?"
Kondo banged on the door, his voice filled with heart-wrenching inquiry.
Innately a playboy, always eyeing the next best thing while having something in hand, he had come to see Miss Nakamori because he had an argument with his current girlfriend. Then he started to miss Nakamori’s submissive and compliant nature and tried to win her back even before breaking up with his current girlfriend.
Miss Nakamori didn’t know how to respond. Should she tell him that because Aoyama Xiu Xin was too big for her, she had become his shape, and they were no longer compatible in size?
"Akinashi, open the door! Open the door!"
Kondo kept pounding at the door.
It was lucky that Miss Nakamori liked peace and quiet, residing in a detached villa far from the bustling city, otherwise such a big commotion would have long attracted the neighbors to come out and gawk.
It would make the headlines of the entertainment news tomorrow.
"Mi..." Kondo was about to recall the happy moments he once shared with Miss Nakamori in hopes of awakening any leftover affection she had for him, but a blinding set of car headlights caught his attention, leading him to turn his head automatically.
A black tiger-headed sedan slowly approached and stopped at the entrance of the villa. The driver got out, bent over and opened the rear car door. A polished black leather shoe stepped out first, followed by the perfectly pressed trouser leg, and then Aoyama Xiu Xin, clad in an expensive black suit, stepped out of the car.
His suit was unbuttoned, revealing a white shirt within, with a blue-striped tie hanging loosely around his neck, projecting a devil-may-care attitude.
"Aoyama... Police Chief Aoyama?"
Kondo recognized the man and involuntarily called out.
"Oh, it’s the great celebrity Kondo-kun."
Aoyama Xiu Xin recognized him too. This boy was quite handsome and popular in Japan. Even without paying special attention, Aoyama Xiu Xin had seen his posters around.
"Hi! Police Chief Aoyama, are you here to see Akinashi?" Kondo asked curiously.
Inside, hearing the conversation outside, Miss Nakamori’s expression changed, and she hurriedly opened the door and stepped out.
Kondo was overjoyed, his expression filled with excitement, "Akinashi, you finally agreed to see me!"
But Miss Nakamori’s gaze stayed fixed on Aoyama Xiu Xin.
Aoyama Xiu Xin’s expression was a mix of amusement and nonchalance.
"Please leave," Miss Nakamori said with pale lips, turning her head to Kondo.
"No rush," Aoyama Xiu Xin spoke with a smile, looking at Kondo with a warm tone, "I need to talk to Miss Nakamori regarding a case, and after I have the information, I’ll leave without disturbing you. Would you kindly wait outside for a moment, Kondo-kun, and assist me with my job?"
"Okay!" Kondo nodded repeatedly, then asked with concern, "May I know what case it is?"
"No comment," said Aoyama Xiu Xin with a smile.
"Okay!" Kondo nodded again, his gaze dreamy as he looked at Miss Nakamori, "Akinashi, I’ll wait right outside for you, don’t worry. I’ll be here to help you through any trouble you face."
Miss Nakamori’s mind was in disarray. She wasn’t paying any attention to what he was saying. Instead, she was more concerned about what Aoyama Xiu Xin wanted to do, her eyes begging.
"Miss Nakamori, please." Aoyama Xiu Xin courteously bowed a little and gestured for her to go inside and talk.
Miss Nakamori instinctively pursed her lips, turned and slowly walked into the house. Aoyama Xiu Xin followed her in and closed the door behind them, leaving Kondo shut out.
Jin Yu Cheng leaned against the car, smoking and looking sympathetically at the clown at the door. Tsk, poor entertaining tool, not knowing what was about to happen.
His boss was never one to play the common man.
As soon as the door closed, Aoyama Xiu Xin grabbed Miss Nakamori’s hand, pulling her into his arms, then pressed her against the door with a twinkle in his eye.
Outside, Kondo soon heard a faint pleading and crying from inside. If he pressed his ear to the door, he could even catch the sound of fabric tearing. His face drastically changed, both shocked and angry, as he began to pound furiously at the door.
"Idiot! What are you doing! Stop it, Xiu Xin, you bastard! Let go of my girlfriend!"
The thought that he was merely separated from Nakamori Akina by a door, facing her directly, twisted his heart like a knife.
Struck as if by lightning, Kondo felt dazed. At this moment, he experienced for the first time the pain Nakamori Akina must have felt when she discovered she had been betrayed.
Stumbling, he sat down on the ground, a vacant look in his eyes, his head ringing and vision swimming, without speaking for a long time.
After another fifteen minutes, the door opened. Kondo instinctively looked up, only to see the towering figure of Xiu Xin. Through the haze, he could just make out Nakamori Akina, disheveled and twitching slightly on the ground behind him.
"You bastard! I’m going to kill you!"
Kondo, cursing, jumped to his feet and lunged at him.
Xiu Xin didn’t duck or dodge, just smiled as he leisurely took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth.
"Clang~"
The sound of the lighter was crisp and pleasant.
In the instant Kondo rose, Jin Yucheng had already thrown away the cigarette butt and charged up the steps to grab Kondo by the collar, yanking him back while simultaneously kicking his knees, making his legs buckle and forcing him to kneel on the ground.
Kondo struggled to get up, but a gun was pressed against the back of his head. The cold touch of the barrel made his body instantly stiffen, and he knelt, frozen in place, daring not to move.
By this time, Xiu Xin had already lit his cigarette.
"Puff——"
He slowly exhaled a mouthful of smoke, looking down from above with an indifferent gaze at Kondo before him.
"You’re no longer together, she’s not your girlfriend anymore. Don’t bother her again, or I’ll see to it that both your career and body vanish. The little network you built from busking is nothing in my eyes; a mere whim of power can crush you beyond recovery."
Having said that, he squatted down, took the cigarette from his mouth, and stuck it into Kondo’s mouth, patting his face with a smile.
Then he stood up and went back inside.
"Bang!"
The door closed once more.
......
The death of one man sparked a thousand waves.
Murakami Hiroaki had died, but his death had thrust the Nozawa Financial Corporation into the spotlight.
The next morning, the Daily News reported that he had committed suicide due to insurmountable debt, with a pen as sharp as a knife pointing at Nozawa Financial Corporation. The article claimed that if allowed to continue its ruthless expansion, it would become a creditor to all Japanese, and Hiroaki’s case was far from isolated; Nozawa Finance was silently harvesting more people’s wealth and lives.
The circulation of the Daily News was significant, ranking high nationwide. This report drew the attention of the nation to Nozawa Financial Corporation, making it the focus after Takeda Fuji, the largest loan company in Japan.
Some felt that Hiroaki got what he deserved. Nozawa Financial Corporation didn’t charge usury rates; they didn’t force him to borrow. If he couldn’t repay, he shouldn’t have borrowed. Isn’t it his own fault for trying to take advantage?
Others, though, believed that even if Nozawa Financial Corporation charged legal interest rates, in essence, there was no difference from Takeda Fuji. They called for a crackdown, urging the government to dissolve all loan companies and wipe out all debt obligations.
Yehua Yiren, the president of Nozawa Financial Corporation, promptly called a press conference. He declared that Nozawa Finance was a legitimate company, operating entirely within legal bounds.
He also said that Nozawa Finance proactively helped those unable to repay their debts by finding them jobs, never forgetting the company’s founding vision of solving citizens’ financial difficulties and overcoming economic downturns.
He expressed regret over the death of Hiroaki and urged those struggling with debt not to take extreme actions, such as ending their lives, and instead to actively contact Nozawa Finance to seek resolution.
Xiu Xin habitually read the newspapers, purchasing a copy from each major press to read every day.
After seeing the related report, he immediately called Nozawa Yiren to advise, "Get this under control quickly and prevent it from becoming a public issue. Also, be gentler with your collection methods, don’t drive people to death."
"Hey! Such a compassionate heart, Mr. Aoyama. I will do my best," Yehua Yiren replied in a delicate voice.
"I’m not fit to be a saint, and I’m not interested in being one," Xiu Xin said. "I’m worried if they die, who will repay the money? If they all commit suicide, won’t our loans turn into bad debts? We must be sufficiently tolerant of those in debt, encouraging them that even if they repay just ten percent a month, it will add up to a significant amount.
"Furthermore, they need to understand that dying doesn’t mean they won’t have to repay. Even if they die, the company might still pursue their families for the debt. If they have even a shred of responsibility, they wouldn’t dare to commit suicide."
The Japanese love to die but not before repaying his money—that he would never allow!
"You want to prevent suicides and save lives with this method, right? How benevolent and kind! You clearly mean well, so why speak so harshly?" Yehua Yiren’s voice was soft.
Xiu Xin: "..."
Was it possible he was too heartless, to the point that people couldn’t believe that was his true intention?
"I didn’t think you’d see through it. That is indeed what I want. Now, quickly calm the situation."
Xiu Xin hung up after speaking.
Damned Japanese, who else but the kind-hearted Mr. Aoyama would lend them money these days?
If it weren’t for the unparalleled kindness of Mr. Aoyama offering loans to help them through hard times, they might have starved to death already. And yet, when it’s time to repay, they accuse him of bloodsucking, with a conscience thoroughly corrupt. Dead as dead can be!
If all the debtors didn’t want to repay, where would he get the money to lend to others in need?
These people are truly too selfish! Too cold-hearted!
"Sigh, it’s so hard to be a good person these days."
Mr. Aoyama, who aspired to be the creditor father to all Japanese, lamented with a heavy heart.
