Chapter 289: Chapter 272: Trouble Solved? No! It’s Just Begun (Vote for Monthly Ticket)
"What’s wrong with me?"
In the office inside Asakawa Plastic Surgery Hospital, Asakawa Xia, dressed in a suit covered by a white lab coat, was stunned by the furious questioning of Aoyama Xiu Xin.
She actually reflected subconsciously on whether she had done something wrong, but quickly realized, why should she reflect? Annoyance arose within her, "What tone are you using?"
Not to mention that she hadn’t made a mistake.
Even if she had, Aoyama Xiu Xin had no right to speak to her like that!
"Sorry, sister-in-law, it was a sudden incident, and I was a bit too aggressive," Aoyama Xiu Xin timely expressed his apology.
He had also figured out a bit about how to handle Asakawa Xia correctly: she was prideful and held herself in high regard. As long as she was given enough respect, and he placed himself in a lower position, then everything was negotiable.
"Hmph!" Asakawa Xia snorted, kicked off the floor with her toes, sliding her chair back and crossing her legs, revealing a stretch of shiny black stockings beneath her lab coat, her high heels dangling from her toes, "What exactly is it?"
Her figure was excellent, so much so that even the loose white lab coat couldn’t conceal the proud and curvaceous lines, bulging and full.
"Sister-in-law, you’ve seen how busy I’ve been lately. For the matter of Ayase Ye and her daughter, since I’ve promised, I will certainly resolve it." Aoyama Xiu Xin’s tone was calm, but one could still detect a trace of irritation, "There’s no need to bother a second person if one is already tasked with it, so why would you find someone else? And to find such an ’idiot,’ who messed everything up!"
Before Yokomaku Reihong could complain to her, he intended to report first. People often form their opinions based on first impressions, and as long as he established the impression within Asakawa Xia that Yokomaku Reihong was to blame, whatever Yokomaku would say afterwards would be less impactful.
"When did I have someone else handle it?" Asakawa Xia, utterly confused, stood up, kicked off her elegant high heels, and walked around her office barefoot, her small feet encased in black stockings, "I’ve only ever asked you about this matter."
Her office was very spacious and empty, and it would take some time to walk in a circle inside of it.
Women generally like it big.
Her feet were very small, but well-proportioned, plump yet slender in appearance, pale, with the veins on the instep clearly visible through the thin stockings.
Not using them to trample mushrooms would be a waste of talent.
Aoyama Xiu Xin was startled; he didn’t think Asakawa Xia, who was so proud, would deny something she had done.
That meant Yokomaku Reihong, seeking to please Asakawa Xia, had taken the initiative and tried to ease her worries by acting on his own, in hopes of winning her favor.
It seemed that people within the system were eager to advance.
This guy was a bit clever and had the guts to act decisively, daring to take a bold gamble.
If there had been no glitch during the capture of Ayase Ye.
He might have already accomplished his goal.
However, this person obviously didn’t understand the stingy and ungrateful nature of Asakawa Xia. She wouldn’t even promise a reward to her own so-called brother handling tasks for her, much less an outsider.
After Yokomaku Reihong’s success, the most he could hope for was a verbal compliment, for Asakawa Xia believed everyone beneath her working for her was simply doing their duty.
"Is that so," mused Aoyama Xiu Xin to himself, then said, "A guy used your name to arrest Ayase Ye and her daughter, but Ayase Ye escaped. She just stopped my car outside Police Headquarters to protest her innocence. With everyone watching, I’m now in a difficult position, sister-in-law. What should I do?"
He had to take this opportunity to denounce Yokomaku Reihong. After all, with such individuals within the system, who knew when they’d seize an opportunity to rise swiftly and retaliate against him? It would be best to get rid of him using Asakawa Xia’s influence.
"Idiot! Who is this idiot!" Asakawa Xia, hearing this, was so infuriated that her chest heaved uncontrollably. She appreciated the initiative to solve her problems, but if someone bungled the job and made it harder to sort out, she was enraged.
Aoyama Xiu Xin said, "Yokomaku Reihong, the chief of the Criminal Division at Central Police Station, was so foolish as to publicly declare he was acting on your behalf to threaten me into handing over Ayase Ye! How could I let him tarnish my brother’s wife’s good name? I had someone give him a good beating."
"Good job," Asakawa Xia praised, then continued angrily, "Previously, Ayase and her daughter reported to Central Police Station, and I had the chief suppress it. That Yokomaku Reihong must have learned about it then and took things into his own hands."
The bastard, just wait to be dismissed and sent packing.
"Big sister, the problem now is how to resolve this current trouble," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a wry smile.
Asakawa Xia couldn’t care less about how difficult and troublesome it was for him, "That’s your problem, I only want the outcome that I desire, otherwise your trouble will only grow."
Damn, what a selfish and despicable woman.
"Big sister, all you want is to keep Ayase and her daughter from making trouble. If I can take care of that, is it really necessary to send them to prison?" Aoyama Xiu Xin tentatively asked.
That was indeed his aim, to avoid upsetting Asakawa Xia without having to cruelly frame Ayase and her daughter.
Asakawa Xia snorted twice, "If you have the ability to do that, I don’t want to make things too complicated. No matter what you do, I have just one demand, make them shut their mouths!"
"Yes!" Aoyama Xiu Xin responded, then added, "Could we offer them some compensation?"
"You think I haven’t tried? If money could solve the problem, why would I have bothered? This mother and daughter are like stones in a pit latrine; they don’t want money at all." Asakawa Xia was still furious recounting it. The mother and daughter were so utterly unreasonable, turning down money. Can justice be eaten like food? They only do things that harm others without benefiting themselves.
Aoyama Xiu Xin knew that someone with her refined egoism could never empathize with the kind-hearted lower class, so he did not attempt to explain. He simply said, "I will find a way to persuade them."
Ayase and her daughter weren’t just seeking justice by going public; they wanted to expose the true face of Asakawa Hospital to prevent more people from being deceived.
It wasn’t just for themselves—otherwise, why not just take a sum of compensation money and stop the futile struggle?
"Three days," Asakawa Xia said and then hung up the phone.
No room for refusal or argument.
"Beep~beep~beep~"
"Bitch." Muttering to himself while listening to the busy signal, Aoyama Xiu Xin took a deep breath to compose himself before returning to his office. He looked troubledly at Ayase Ye and said, "Your daughter’s situation is somewhat complicated."
"Police Chief Aoyama, please, I beg you to think of a solution," Ayase Ye said, instantly anxious and upset.
Aoyama Xiu Xin raised his hand, "What I said was that it’s somewhat complicated, not completely unmanageable."
Ayase Ye’s face instantly brightened with hope as she looked at him eagerly, awaiting his next words.
"Sigh, that’s how the bigger picture is. I can only get your daughter out of this, but you’ll have to stop causing trouble for Asakawa Hospital. As for seeking justice and vindication on your behalf, I’m afraid that’s beyond my abilities, and for that, I truly apologize," Aoyama Xiu Xin said, bowing deeply with an expression of shame.
Ayase Ye hastily returned the bow, tears streaming down her face as she spoke, "There’s no need for you to do this, Police Chief Aoyama. You’ve already done so much for me and as for justice..."
She offered a bitter laugh, saying self-mockingly, "I’ve come to see clearly that the arm can’t twist the thigh; my daughter can lose her face, but she can’t lose her life."
Another person who has lost faith in fairness was born into the world.
The public trust in the government deteriorates step by step.
No matter, the worse it gets, the better. The more dissatisfied people are with the present, the more eager they will be for change, and Aoyama Xiu Xin will be the one to lead them to that change.
"I have secured compensation for you," Aoyama Xiu Xin sighed inwardly. "The amount should be substantial. As long as you sign the agreement, there will be no more trouble in the future."
This matter had come to a somewhat satisfactory conclusion.
Ayase Ye nodded repeatedly, tears streaming down without a word.
"Come, I’ll take you to pick up your daughter."
.........
Central Police Station.
Senior Police Director’s office.
Yokomaku Reihong, just back at Police Headquarters, was being reprimanded.
"Slap!" The station chief slapped him fiercely across the face and scolded loudly, "Idiot!"
"Yes, sir!" Yokomaku Reihong didn’t dare to fight back.
The slap added insult to his already bruised face.
Grinding his teeth, the station chief accused him, "Who gave you the courage to make arrests without authorization? Had you handled the situation properly that would be one thing, but you messed it up and caused trouble for Miss Asakawa Xia! She just called to question me!"
"I failed to fulfill my duties," Yokomaku Reihong said with his head lowered.
"Indeed, you are about to be derelict in your duties," the station chief nodded and said calmly, "Miss Asakawa Xia is very angry. Before you returned, I had already prepared your dismissal request, which will be sent out shortly."
Yokomaku Reihong looked up incredulously, his features twisting, "How can she do this!"
Even though he had botched things up, his intention was to help her—how could Asakawa Xia do this!
"You were too hasty, not even understanding what kind of person she is before blindly trying to please her," the station chief shook his head. "Serve your last few days properly."
Yokomaku Reihong’s face was filled with resentment, clenching and unclenching his fists, eventually lowering his head in frustrated defeat.
The station chief turned his back to him and waved dismissively.
"Release Ayase Yuki immediately."
"Yes, sir!" Yokomaku Reihong turned and left.
His figure seemed shattered, his eyes blank with confusion.
As soon as he stepped out of the station chief’s office, his anxious subordinates rushed up to him with urgency.
"Police Chief, it’s all gone wrong, there’s been an incident."
"What now?" asked Yokomaku Reihong, unfazed.
After all, what else could go wrong that was worse than his current predicament?
"Ayase Yuki... she’s dead."
Yokomaku Reihong jolted as if struck by lightning, suddenly looking up.
"What did you say?" he asked urgently.
The subordinate swallowed and, glancing around cautiously, repeated in a low voice, "Ayase Yuki is dead, she couldn’t withstand the interrogation, smashed her head and died. The guys conducting the interrogation freaked out, scared of the incident being exposed and didn’t dare call an ambulance."
The so-called interrogation was naturally heavy-handed.
Yokomaku Reihong felt as if he had been hit by a bolt of lightning, thinking his life had hit rock bottom, only to find it could sink even lower.
Originally it was just about being dismissed, but now with Ayase Yuki’s death, he was certain to bear criminal responsibility.
No! He couldn’t go to prison!
He couldn’t just sit and wait for doom!
With his lowly status, there was no way to cover this up by himself; he needed to implicate someone of higher status to have a chance at survival.
Asakawa Xia!
Yokomaku Reihong’s mind flashed with that name.
Then his eyes filled with hatred; he had done all this to curry favor with her, yet instead of gratitude, she had turned against him.
All of this was because of her that matters had escalated to this point.
She should bear all the responsibility!
"Seal the news first, it must not be leaked," Yokomaku Reihong sternly warned his subordinate.
The subordinate, aware of the gravity of the situation and hoping Yokomaku Reihong could handle it, nodded and responded, "Yes, sir!"
Yokomaku Reihong turned and went back to the station chief’s office.
"Bang!"
Hearing the door open, the station chief, who had just sat down, looked up and asked with a frown, "Why have you come back?"
"Chief, please give me Miss Asakawa Xia’s contact information. I want to make one last effort, unwilling to accept being dismissed just like this," Yokomaku Reihong bowed deeply.
The station chief sighed, "It’s no use, people like them don’t see us as human. If you call, she’ll just find you annoying and dislike you even more, she won’t empathize with your plight and struggles."
He had dealings with higher status individuals and felt this profoundly. Some people are humans; some are not.
"Please, Chief! Just let me try one more time," Yokomaku Reihong pleaded earnestly.
The station chief pondered for a moment, sighed, and, out of past favor, decided to help him.
He bent down to write a note and passed it over.
"This is the office number for Asakawa Xia."
"Yes, sir! Thank you, Chief!" Yokomaku Reihong stepped forward to take the note and quickly left.
