Chapter 259: Chapter 248: Infernal Affairs Unfolding (Vote for monthly tickets!)
The next day, September 15th.
"Good morning, sister-in-law."
Aoyama Xiu Xin greeted as usual.
"Good morning, Xiu Xin." As Aoyama Haruko bent over to wipe the table, some unpleasant memories came to mind. She quickly stood up straight, fearing Xiu Xin might take the opportunity to bump against her.
Seeing her reaction, Xiu Xin couldn’t help but smirk. He did not tease her but instead said, "Sister-in-law, let’s go out to sea this weekend for some fun."
His sister-in-law’s birthday happened to be this weekend, but she had clearly forgotten. She only remembered the birthdays of her own family members, and Xiu Xin wanted to celebrate hers.
Because Aoyama Haruko was acutely aware of Xiu Xin’s intentions, she immediately became vigilant and suggested, "Let’s invite Ling along, the more the merrier."
She didn’t feel at ease about going out to sea alone.
Not just uneasy about Xiu Xin.
But also uneasy about herself.
"Sure, I might as well invite Brother Zexi and Brother Xianyou too," Xiu Xin nodded in agreement.
Aoyama Haruko finally felt at ease, "Mmhmm."
After breakfast, Xiu Xin went to work, feeling refreshed. After all, his relationship with his sister-in-law had made a qualitative breakthrough today, the first time he had made his move on her.
And she had not erupted in anger, which clearly meant he could continue in this manner, as long as he didn’t attempt to take it any further, he could be even more audacious.
On the way to Police Headquarters in his car, he made a call to Aoyama Sosuke, "Big brother, are you busy?"
He could faintly hear the sound of a child crying.
"Sothing the child, what is it? Spit it out."
Sosuke’s voice betrayed a sense of exhaustion.
"It’s sister-in-law’s birthday this weekend. I was wondering what she likes, if there’s anything she’s always wanted. Do you have any suggestions that I could consider?"
Asking his elder brother how to pursue his sister-in-law was undoubtedly the right move, after all, he had courted her once and succeeded, possessing a wealth of ’game-clearing’ experience.
Sosuke: "......"
He felt suddenly nauseated as if he had swallowed a fly.
But he was also somewhat surprised, "You haven’t won her over yet? It’s been so long, that’s not like you!"
"Big brother, my love for sister-in-law is genuine. I want her to be willing to follow me, not just to win her body but her heart as well," Xiu Xin said earnestly.
Sosuke: "......"
I said I was willing to help you, but damn it, she’s still my wife, and we haven’t divorced yet! Can’t you consider my feelings!
"Big brother, are you there? Is the signal bad?"
Xiu Xin called out, urging a response when he didn’t get one.
"You hold the child for a while." Sosuke handed his son over to Ashida Kazuko and said, "Then I wish you luck with this adulterous... cough, this relationship!"
"You offering your blessings in words alone is useless. Show some real action and help your dear brother chase the woman he loves," Xiu Xin said, dissatisfied.
But damn, you’re after my wife!
Sosuke darkened his face, "Aoyama Xiu Xin, you’ve gone too far! Are you trying to make a mockery of me?"
As their relationship had mended, he was still wary of Xiu Xin, but not with the initial fear; they interacted more naturally now.
"Big brother, I’m serious, I sincerely ask for your guidance," Xiu Xin’s tone was very sincere.
But the more sincere he was, the more Sosuke felt his defenses crumbling. It would have been better if Xiu Xin had admitted he was mocking him, Sosuke sighed lamentably, "Haruko has always wanted a diamond ring with a rather large stone. I once promised her that I’d give her one once I achieved something in life..."
"Got it, big brother. I’ll fulfill that promise for our sister-in-law," Xiu Xin said with a smile.
Sosuke: "......"
He chose to hang up the phone without uttering another word.
"Do you still have feelings for her?" Kazuko came over, holding the child and asked in a soft, weak voice.
Sosuke was somewhat annoyed, "It’s Xiu Xin that bastard who won’t let me forget her. I have a feeling, this guy is going to play even more outrageous games in the future!"
"Then I..." Kazuko was a bit flustered.
"Don’t worry, he’s not in love with sister-in-law, he’s in love with a beautiful sister-in-law," Sosuke comforted her.
Kazuko: "......"
Thanks for the consolation, I feel so much better now.
....................
Fujimoto Takuya, Saiji Taisen, and Koizumi Hisahide all did not bother to hide their tracks after being released from prison.
Knowing they used to be policemen, they were quite aware that hiding was futile. As long as they kept their actions clean, the police, despite knowing they killed Tsunoda Shinro, could do nothing about them.
And precisely because they did not deliberately go into hiding,
The police easily found out their addresses and arranged for Nozaki Cangjian to get close.
Their target was Fujimoto Takuya.
This man was once the Deputy Director of the Special Crime Unit at the First Investigative Division, the superior of Nozaki Cangjian; it was he who had sent Nozaki Cangjian to deliver the message that ultimately saved him.
Early in the morning, Nozaki Cangjian deliberately carried a bottle of liquor to Fujimoto Takuya’s neighborhood, wandering around until, indeed, he spotted Fujimoto Takuya stepping out of his home.
Upon seeing this, Nozaki Cangjian quickly pretended to be drunk and bumped into a passerby, initiating the altercation.
"Idiot! You bastard! How do you walk? Are your eyes just for decoration?"
"Ah! Bastard! It was you who bumped into me!"
The passerby, enraged, immediately tangled with him, and the two grappled on the ground.
"Today I’ll teach you a lesson, you drunkard!"
Nozaki Cangjian purposefully let himself be overpowered, pinned to the ground by the other man who punched him hard, truly painful punches.
But for justice, he endured!
It was hard for Fujimoto Takuya not to see this spectacle.
He glanced over and froze abruptly, recognizing a familiar face among the brawling pair.
"Idiot! Stop! Stop it now!"
Fujimoto Takuya rushed over, kicking the passerby off Nozaki Cangjian with a "Get lost!"
Seeing that there was backup, the passerby quickly ran off.
"My liquor, my liquor! My liquor, my liquor!"
Fujimoto Takuya turned around to find Nozaki Cangjian on the ground, searching for the bottle that had fallen during the scuffle, heedless of anything else, he sat down and started drinking.
"Cangjian, how did you end up like this?"
Looking at the young man in front of him reeking of alcohol, with a shaggy beard and disheveled appearance, his shirt collar nearly crusted with dirt, Fujimoto Takuya asked with disbelief on his face.
"Do... do you want a drink? Come on, cheers."
Nozaki Cangjian burped, handing over an already empty liquor bottle with a dim-witted smile.
"Ah!"
Fujimoto Takuya helplessly helped him back to his home.
"Ugh... ugh..."
Along the way, he was vomited on by Nozaki Cangjian.
After entering the home, he dumped Nozaki Cangjian on the sofa and went to take a shower and change his clothes first.
Nozaki Cangjian started to pretend to be asleep.
When Fujimoto Takuya finished changing and came out, he saw the other man lying on the sofa, snoring loudly without any self-image, and he couldn’t help but sigh again.
Nozaki Cangjian had started by pretending to sleep, but because he had drunk a bit earlier, he actually fell asleep.
When he awoke, it was dusk, and he rubbed his eyes in confusion, "Where is this?"
"This is my home," Fujimoto Takuya, with an apron on, came out with a dish, "Now that you’re awake, go wash your face and hands then let’s eat, I have something to ask you."
"Fujimoto... Vice Director Fujimoto!"
Nozaki Cangjian stood up in shock.
"Don’t call me Deputy Director, I am no longer a police officer," said Fujimoto Takuya with a self-mocking smile.
However, Nozaki Cangjian seemed as if he hadn’t heard this at all, excitedly circling around him, "Is it really you? When did you get out? Wasn’t your sentence still a few months away? Why didn’t you let me pick you up, I left my home phone number when I went to see you a couple of years ago, why didn’t you tell me?"
His reaction was not entirely feigned but revealed genuine sentiment; after all, if he had known about their release from prison, he certainly would have persuaded them to give up on revenge, and things might not have escalated to this point.
"Good behavior, sentence reduced, got out a few months early," Fujimoto Takuya replied. The reason he didn’t contact Nozaki Cangjian was that he didn’t want him to get involved in their revenge, not willing to disrupt his life.
"All right! Stop asking about me, let’s talk about you, what’s going on? How did you end up like this? Instead of going to work in the morning, you’re drunk and fighting in the streets, what if someone complains?"
Nozaki Cangjian laughed at himself, slumping back onto the sofa, "I am no longer a police officer now, either."
"What happened?" Fujimoto Takuya pressed on.
Nozaki Cangjian rubbed his face and exhaled slowly, "After that incident, I made quite a few mistakes on duty. A couple of days ago, the inspector found evidence and held my supervisor accountable. My boss dismissed me from my position. Without a job, what else could I do but drink?"
Fujimoto Takuya was silently speechless for a moment before saying, "That incident changed our lives, huh."
Nozaki Cangjian wasn’t like this before.
"It’s all because of those three bastards!" Nozaki Cangjian’s face was full of anger and resentment, grinding his teeth, "If it weren’t for them getting kidnapped, all those things afterwards wouldn’t have happened, and I wouldn’t have ended up in this situation!"
Fujimoto Takuya frowned; he noticed Nozaki Cangjian was being extreme. Their revenge was because those three had wrongly identified them in court as having killed hostages, but that had nothing to do with their kidnapping; after all, it wasn’t something those three could control.
Yet Nozaki Cangjian blamed his own plight on the kidnapping of those three, taking it to an extreme.
"Didn’t you see the news?" Fujimoto Takuya asked.
"Huh?" Nozaki Cangjian was surprised, and then slapped his head, "I’ve been drunk more than sober these days, who has the mood to watch the news? What’s up, Deputy Director, has something big happened recently?"
"Never mind, let’s eat," Fujimoto Takuya gave a faint smile and said no more. Although the man was his former subordinate, he still maintained a sense of vigilance.
He wasn’t about to believe everything the other said.
