Chapter 231: Chapter 224: Route Issue, The Highly Enlightened Mr. Aoyama
Organizations are made up of individuals.
Within a collective organization, while the objective may be the same for everyone, the paths to achieving these shared goals often vary greatly.
In her many interactions with Aoyama Xiu Xin, Tangong Huizi was persuaded, feeling that the Civilian Corps might consider changing their past strategies of bribing politicians with wealth and sex, collecting their weaknesses, and threatening them into submission.
Such methods could indeed bring a number of politicians under effective control, but they also tend to alienate the truly capable and ambitious officials.
And it is often these latter individuals who are genuinely in high positions, able to determine policy direction with a single word, and who can effectively improve the social status of Koreans in Japan.
Therefore, the Civilian Corps’ previous tactics were merely a way to raise a group of yes-men who had little actual use and were leeches on their resources.
Rallying them for minor matters was feasible, but expecting to achieve equal status for Koreans in Japan through them was utterly impossible.
Hence, Tangong Huizhi proposed her idea to Cui Guiwen: They should woo capable individuals like Aoyama Xiu Xin by appealing to their interests, drawing them closer without trying to completely control them through blackmail, and instead engage in fair and mutual exchanges of benefit.
Such an approach would provide these competent officials with a sense of security, allowing them to deal with us without fear of being trapped after one collaboration, for if they had such fears, they would never take the first step.
With this, Cui Guiwen called a high-level meeting.
Quite a few people agreed with Tangong Huizi’s suggestions, as their old way of doing things had lasted so many years and, although it had achieved some success in improving the position of Koreans in Japan, it had stagnated and it was time to try a new method.
However, a director from the Civilian Corps named Han Suwen sneered at her proposal, deeming such a method too unstable, arguing that they could not ensure that these officials would always serve their interests and thus it was necessary to coerce them with leverage.
Others supported Han Suwen, insisting on sticking to the original track, since the achievements of the Civilian Corps thus far proved it was viable.
Both sides argued ceaselessly at the meeting, and it almost escalated to physical confrontation, until Cui Guiwen halted the quarreling and decided to use Aoyama Xiu Xin as a test case, entrusting Tangong Huizi with the task to prove her method’s effectiveness.
Thus, Tangong Huizi now placed a high value on Aoyama Xiu Xin, as winning him over would greatly benefit not only the Civilian Corps but also her personal influence within the organization and the Corps’ modus operandi.
So, when Aoyama Xiu Xin mentioned that a Korean had made secret contact with Aoyama Sosuke, Tangong Huizi immediately initiated an investigation and discovered the company that contacted Aoyama Sosuke was actually controlled by Han Suwen’s son.
Clearly, Han Suwen intended to continue Cui Guiwen’s original plan, using Aoyama Sosuke as a breakthrough to control Aoyama Xiu Xin and to prove with facts that the Civilian Corps’ long-standing methods were correct.
And the reason you, Tangong Huizi, failed with Aoyama Xiu Xin was simply due to your lack of personal ability, unrelated to the method, hence no need for change.
Upon learning that Han Suwen was undermining her, Tangong Huizi’s initial reaction was fury, her instinct to complain to Cui Guiwen, but after calming herself, she dismissed the idea, knowing she had to handle this herself.
If she relied on tattling to Cui Guiwen to advocate for her every time she faced a setback, her supporters and the neutral parties would only think her incapable.
Even her father, Cui Guiwen, would think the same, and once labeled incompetent, it would be difficult to shed that stigma.
After some thought, Tangong Huizi figured she could cooperate with Aoyama Xiu Xin to resolve the issue, especially since it involved his older brother and was ultimately targeted at him.
Being manipulated, he must also want to clear the air.
This would not only convey her friendly stance to Aoyama Xiu Xin but also strengthen their connection and show the Civilian Corps the effectiveness of her methods: see, Aoyama Xiu Xin resists contact with the Corps, but not personal cooperation with me.
She immediately called Aoyama Xiu Xin.
"Moshi moshi, this is Aoyama Xiu Xin."
After connecting, Tangong Huizi, hearing the faint "Gurgle gurgle" noises coming from the receiver, teased, "My, our Police Chief Aoyama is working so tirelessly, busy as a bee."
She placed the phone on the coffee table, lifted her fair little foot, and carefully applied bright nail polish. A silver anklet with two small bells dangled on her ankle, creating a crisp ringing sound when she moved.
"After all, one cannot afford to miss a good ’chicken’," retorted Aoyama Xiu Xin, hearing the sarcasm in her voice. With Takizawa Chiyu sweating profusely beneath him, he gripped her hair deeply, "What brings President Tangong to call?"
"I’ve uncovered some clues about your elder brother and was hoping to discuss it with you, but it seems tonight’s no good," Tangong Huizi casually responded as she continued painting her nails.
"Let’s do it tomorrow," Aoyama Xiu Xin said. "I’ll see when I’m free tomorrow and let you know in advance."
Tomorrow was the weekend, and he didn’t have to work.
"Good, then I’ll hang up now. See you tomorrow."
"Hold on, keep me company a bit longer."
Tangong Huizi: "..."
I offered myself to you and you refused, but now you want me to keep you company while you’re with another? Please, show some decency!
It didn’t take long for Aoyama Xiu Xin to hear a series of faint hums over the phone, clearly Tangong Huizi was quite excited, and it was hard to say who was entertaining whom. In any case, both ended up thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Afterward, Aoyama Xiu Xin, dressed neatly, held both the flushed Hashimoto Miho and Takizawa Chiyu in his embrace, still relishing the afterglow.
"So much commotion, Takizawa Shikou didn’t hear it, did he?" At the sage hour, after calming down, Xiu Xin suddenly felt a bit apprehensive and voiced his concern.
Hashimoto Miho elegantly lit a cigarette and fed it to his mouth, giggling, "Master, you can rest easy, the old guy’s renovation materials are all solid, and the soundproofing is very effective. If he had really heard anything, he would have come down and fought you by now."
"How is he doing, by the way?" Xiu Xin exhaled a plume of smoke, asking with interest.
Hashimoto Miho curled her lip, "He’s long been out of commission. Now, aside from using it to pee, it’s just ornamental. He’s been feeling so guilty towards me that he’s been treating me better and better."
An old husband with a young wife often leads to such a predicament.
An old wife with a young husband has no such issue.
"The Takizawa dean is only impotent from working too hard for the nation. From now on, I’ll stand in for him in bed, allowing him to govern in peace; I consider it my contribution to the country." Mr. Aoyama’s awareness was consistently high, brave enough to step up at critical moments.
"Bang!"
Just then, the sound of a door closing came from upstairs.
Hashimoto Miho and Takizawa Chiyu instantly rose from Xiu Xin’s embrace and sat a little further away.
"Sorry about that, Mr. Aoyama, got held up with some work and left you waiting." Takizawa Shikou came downstairs, apologizing with a sorry look, then sniffed and wrinkled his brows, "Do you smell anything?"
Takizawa Chiyu was still young; hearing this, she tensed up immediately, her body stiffened, and her legs involuntarily clamped together, determined not to let anything slip.
Xiu Xin was also on tenterhooks; after all, men are all too familiar with, and sensitive to, that sort of scent.
"What scent? If there was one, we would’ve smelled it sooner. Husband, you better sit down and rest a bit," Hashimoto Miho was the picture of calm, she got up with a beaming smile and coquettishly took Takizawa Shikou by the arm to seat him on the sofa.
Takizawa Shikou sat down, his gaze falling on her slender legs, "Meiji, how did your stockings get ruined? I remember they were fine just a while ago."
"It got caught on something when I went to the restroom just now." Hashimoto Miho glanced at her torn stockings, complaining nonchalantly.
Dean Takizawa quickly consoled her, "As long as you’re not hurt, it’s fine. Stockings can be replaced. But if those beautiful legs were scratched, that would be the real heartache."
No sooner had he finished speaking than he turned his head and looked at Xiu Xin with a chuckle, "Mr. Aoyama, don’t you agree?"
"Aha!" Xiu Xin jolted, thinking he had perceived something, but then dismissed the thought, laughing, "Hey! After all, Judge Hashimoto is sculpted like a beautiful jade without any flaws; it would indeed be a pity if she were to get scarred."
If he had really noticed something, he wouldn’t be so amiable; his anger would be uncontrollable.
I’m just being paranoid, scaring myself.
"Hahaha, like jade, exactly, Meiji is like a jade beauty, and she’s even whiter in skin, it’s just a pity Mr. Aoyama won’t be fortunate enough to see," Dean Takizawa bragged about his wife’s beauty, bursting into hearty laughter.
Hashimoto Miho pretended to be annoyedly embarrassed, her face flushing as she spoke, "Husband, what are you babbling about? I am your wife, only you get to see."
"Alright, alright, don’t be mad, I was just saying," Dean Takizawa indulged her, calming her down.
"Dean Takizawa, Judge Hashimoto, it’s getting late, I won’t impose any longer, so I shall take my leave," Xiu Xin looked at his watch and stood up.
Dean Takizawa quickly got up to see him out, "I just finished up; I was planning to have a long chat with you, but it is indeed late today, so next time. In any case, Mr. Aoyama, please make sure to visit often!"
"Hey! It would be my honor! I’ll definitely come often!" Xiu Xin replied sincerely.
Dean Takizawa nodded with a smile.
Xiu Xin always felt there was something odd about old Deng.
Hopefully, it wasn’t that he had lost interest in women and started being interested in men, he thought with a shudder.
............
"Xiu Xin! Come out! Roll out here!"
The next morning, before the alarm clock could wake Xiu Xin, a sharp female voice penetrated the solid wooden door, interrupting Xiu Xin’s peaceful dreams.
"Xiu Xin! Get your ass out here!"
"Damn it! Who’s the rude bastard that doesn’t know any manners!" It was a holiday, and just when Xiu Xin finally wanted to sleep in, he couldn’t. Xiu Xin violently threw off the covers and sat up, enraged, he went downstairs in his pajamas.
"Let go of me! You let go! Call Xiu Xin out to see me, Xiu Xin, you roll out here!"
When Xiu Xin saw the woman being dragged out by the bodyguards in the living room, he was stunned.
It was actually her.
