Chapter 167: Chapter 163: Overnight Fame, a Tale of Mutual Gratitude
Tokyo’s Ota District.
At Master Bridge, which connects Tokyo to Kawasaki, the checkpoint set up near the Tokyo end of the bridge was in shambles; several police cars were smashed and overturned, and about a dozen policemen’s bodies were scattered everywhere.
Blood was splattered all over the place.
In front of the checkpoint were dozens of police cars and hundreds of policemen. Even during daytime, so many police lights converged into a red and blue sea. The piercing sound of police sirens continued for a long time, and all the officers stood still.
Behind the checkpoint, a police car with its rear wheel shot out crashed into the railing of the bridge, its front end deformed. Four bodies lay beside it, and further away lay the body of Yoshida Tomo, flung away by the impact, his blood staining the ground a crimson red.
A car with its windshield shattered and its body full of bullet holes stopped in the middle of the bridge. Then the door opened, and Aoyama Xiu Xin got out. Leaning against the battered car, he pulled out a cigarette and placed it to his lips.
It was meaningless; he simply wanted to look cool.
"Quick! Secure the scene!"
Head of Criminal Affairs Department of the Metropolitan Police Department Nozawa Toshiaki finally came to his senses and commanded with a broad gesture.
The policemen behind him sprang into action, some carrying bodies and others assisting the injured...
Nozawa Toshiaki could hardly contain his excitement as he and a group of leaders briskly walked towards Aoyama Xiu Xin.
"Officer!" Aoyama Xiu Xin saluted with a cigarette in his mouth.
Nozawa Toshiaki raised his hand to return the salute and laughed heartily as he slapped Aoyama’s shoulder. "Good! Good! Good! Police Chief Aoyama, you are truly Heisei’s No.1 Detective. Not only are you meticulous in your investigations, but you also apprehend criminals with exceptional bravery. This time, you have upheld our police department’s honor and deserve the highest credit!"
He had personally witnessed Aoyama Xiu Xin firing back at their attackers. It felt like watching a movie scene that got his old blood boiling.
Yoshida Tomo’s escape and killing of policemen would have been a lifelong disgrace for the Japanese police force if they had actually gotten away!
"To serve the Heavenly Locust with utmost loyalty, never shying from sacrificing oneself!" Aoyama Xiu Xin stood upright, shouting the slogan with righteous conviction.
Hearing these words, Nozawa Toshiaki’s face showed a look of envy. "Perhaps His Majesty will commend you."
After all, this event was big, arguably Japan’s biggest case in decades. More than ten policemen were killed, and the more severe the situation, the greater the credit to Aoyama Xiu Xin for turning the tide. The Heavenly Locust, the lucky charm, was likely to publicly acknowledge him for his achievements.
"Really... really?" Aoyama Xiu Xin tried to appear excited and thrilled, speaking breathlessly, "That would be an immense honor for me!"
Damn it, what good does his commendation do? It’s not like it can promote me three ranks instantly. Some actual reward would be better.
"Don’t get too excited yet; it’s just my guess," Nozawa Toshiaki added, worried that the higher Aoyama’s expectations, the greater his disappointment might be. Then exhaling, he said, "Police Chief Aoyama, you’ve worked hard. Go rest for now; others can handle things here."
"Yes, Sir!" Aoyama Xiu Xin bowed and left.
His subordinates hastily followed him, walking behind Aoyama Xiu Xin with their heads held high and chests puffed out, showing off a sense of shared pride.
Speaking of Mr. Aoyama’s merits, even the most useless member of his team would stand tall and hold their heads up high, revealing expressions of pride and self-respect.
"No one got hurt, right?" Aoyama Xiu Xin asked.
"Report to Police Chief Aoyama, no one was hurt."
Because the firepower from Yoshida Tomo and his men was too strong, it didn’t allow them to show themselves, and they were all blindly firing their guns from behind cover. Hence, although they didn’t hit anyone, they also weren’t hit, all thanks to Aoyama Xiu Xin’s leadership.
The escaped prisoners were captured or killed; the police operation was a resounding success. That day, the Metropolitan Police Department held a press conference to explain the incident, and as the main hero involved in the frontline action, Aoyama Xiu Xin also made an appearance.
Public Security Committee Chairman Yanchuan Shilang also attended the meeting, and in his speech, he praised and affirmed Aoyama Xiu Xin’s abilities and performance, even calling him the most outstanding young police officer of the Heisei Era.
The reason he gave such high praise, apart from Aoyama Xiu Xin’s exceptional performance, was also because of the relationship with Yanchuan Xianyou, giving him a helping hand.
When Prime Minister Miyazawa was interviewed by reporters and asked for his opinion on the matter, he affirmed the capacity of the Metropolitan Police Department but did not single out Aoyama Xiu Xin for praise.
Contrary to what Nozawa Toshiaki had thought, the Heavenly Locust also didn’t praise Aoyama Xiu Xin; instead, Crown Prince Ren De commended Aoyama Xiu Xin’s bravery to the media.
That evening, father-in-law Asai Youki invited him over for dinner once again; clearly, Asai Youki also felt proud to have such a son-in-law.
"Wow! Even the Crown Prince praised you, this time you’ve truly made a name for yourself and everyone knows it." Asai Ayumi looked away from the TV and admired Aoyama Xiu Xin, with pride and adoration in the depths of her eyes.
Asai Zexi wasn’t coming home that night, Asai Youki was still in a meeting and hadn’t returned, and Mrs. Asakai was busy in the kitchen. Aoyama Xiu Xin and Asai Ayumi were watching television on the couch, with the TV reporting the day’s events.
Aoyama Xiu Xin showed no emotion, after all, he wasn’t a real Japanese person, so he had no sense of identification with the Japanese Imperial Family. He indifferently said, "Do I even need his approval? A freeloader, a sycophant."
Calling the Crown Prince a sycophant came from the fact that he had been pursuing a female diplomat for years, persisting even after being rejected numerous times.
In the end, he actually succeeded in winning her over.
However, it’s undeniable that the royal family holds a high place in the hearts of the Japanese, and the personal commendation from Crown Prince Ren De certainly made Aoyama Xiu Xin’s reputation soar.
After all, most of the citizens wouldn’t know who Yanchuan Shilang is, but they’d definitely know Crown Prince Ren De.
"What sycophant, that is true devotion, okay?" Having spent much time with Aoyama Xiu Xin, Asai Ayumi also knew what the term meant and didn’t agree with that assessment, "The Crown Prince, despite his noble status, has been steadfastly pursuing the woman he admires for years. Isn’t that touching?"
"What if he pursued you?" Aoyama Xiu Xin asked.
"Err..." Asai Ayumi coughed and awkwardly said, "Then let’s forget about it. He doesn’t meet my aesthetic standards, he’s not my type."
Two words to summarize: ugly rejection.
"There you go, it’s as if the female diplomat likes ugly guys," Aoyama Xiu Xin sneered. There were rumors that senior officials put pressure on the diplomat’s family to agree to the Crown Prince’s pursuit.
Because how could the Crown Prince remain unmarried?
Asai Ayumi rolled her eyes, "Alright, alright, you’re the best. I’m wrong, happy now?"
"What do you mean you’re wrong? You were wrong from the start!" Aoyama Xiu Xin wasn’t one to indulge her temperament.
That’s how Sigma men always were.
"Darn it!" Ayumi Asai kicked him swiftly with her silky-stockinged foot, then jumped up and ran toward the kitchen, "Mom, do you need my help?"
"Why are you here? Leave Xiu Xin alone outside and go keep him company. I don’t need your help."
Ayumi Asai returned to the living room, her spirits dampened, and flopped onto the sofa. The hem of her skirt lifted, revealing two slender, black silk-clad feet which she nonchalantly rested on Aoyama Xiu Xin’s legs, teasing him playfully with agile and preemptive footwork.
"Come over here!" Aoyama grabbed her ankle and pulled her toward him, then leaned over her to tickle her into submission.
"Ah! Get off! Don’t touch me!"
"You kicked me! Ticklish, aren’t you?"
"Ticklish! Ticklish! I was wrong, haha~"
Suddenly, Aoyama Xiu Xin stopped and just stared at her. Ayumi Asai stared back at him.
Now it wasn’t just her ticklish spots that tingled.
"Go to my room," she whispered.
Aoyama Xiu Xin smirked, "Let’s just stay here."
"Are you crazy?" Ayumi Asai’s eyes widened with shock and a hint of excitement, seemingly eager to try.
"Just be quiet, and it’ll be fine."
Ayumi Asai lay on the couch, arching her head back, her hair cascading to the floor, hands over her mouth, eyes hazy and frantic, breaths heavy and quick.
She could even see the shadow of her mother in the kitchen, the nerves and embarrassment mixed with an exhilarating thrill.
So hard to describe in mere words.
During dinner, Youki Asai told Aoyama Xiu Xin that he was about to be promoted to Police Chief and, barring any surprises, would become the Deputy Director of Criminal Affairs at the Police Headquarters, so the dinner was both a celebration of Xiu Xin’s achievement and his own upcoming promotion.
Aoyama Xiu Xin was naturally thrilled; the higher his father-in-law’s position, the more benefit he could get from it.
.........
After bidding farewell to his father-in-law’s family, Aoyama Xiu Xin did not go home but went to the home of Zhongshan Mie.
"Police Chief Aoyama, please come in."
The door was opened by Qian Yu Takizawa, her black hair falling straight to her waist, her features soft and her demeanor placid, dressed in a silver-gray slip dress, her long, fair legs like jade, and wearing a pair of white cotton socks.
"Miss Takizawa."
Aoyama Xiu Xin bowed in return, then followed her into the living room, and bowed again to Zhongshan Mie who was seated on the sofa, "Lady Zhongshan, good evening."
"Please have a seat, Police Chief Aoyama," Zhongshan Mie said after he sat down. "I heard about Police Chief Aoyama’s heroic deeds this morning, and you’ve made another great contribution. Congratulations. What brings you to see me?"
"Of course, it’s about Miho Hashimoto," replied Aoyama Xiu Xin, then smiled slightly, "Thanks to your help, I’ve got something on Miho Hashimoto. She won’t trouble Miss Takizawa anymore."
"That quick? Police Chief Aoyama, your actions are indeed swift and decisive," Zhongshan Mie expressed her surprise.
"You flatter me," Aoyama Xiu Xin modestly replied, then turned to Qian Yu Takizawa, "I’ve also obtained compensation for Miss Takizawa. Miho Hashimoto will help transfer her to the Tokyo District Court."
Qian Yu Takizawa was originally a judge at the Tokyo Family Court, dealing mainly with juvenile offenders and family crimes, a position with much less status and prospect than that of a criminal judge at the Tokyo District Court.
By proposing this, Aoyama Xiu Xin meant not only to repay the favor but also needed someone close to Miho Hashimoto to keep an eye on her, and Qian Yu Takizawa was perfectly suited for the role.
Stepmothers and their predecessors’ daughters never get along by nature.
"Is that... true? Thank you so much, Police Chief Aoyama!" Qian Yu Takizawa was thrilled, bowing repeatedly in thanks; each bow caused the neckline of her dress to slip, revealing a perfect teardrop shape.
Aoyama Xiu Xin felt sorry for her; her own father being the Vice President of the Supreme Court would have made transferring to the Tokyo District Court an easy feat, but due to Miho Hashimoto, the evil stepmother’s manipulations, she not only lacked her father’s care but also had no home to return to.
Of course, Takizawa Shikou was quite dopey, utterly bewitched by a woman and neglecting his own daughter.
Such fools deserved to be cuckolded.
Aoyama Xiu Xin quickly helped her stand, saying amiably, "It’s the least I could do, Miss Takizawa. You’re welcome. Let’s keep in touch."
Visceral connections and exchanges.
"Sure!" Qian Yu Takizawa exclaimed, then added, "Just call me Qian Yu, Police Chief Aoyama."
"Alright, then you can also call me by my name, Qian Yu-chan," Aoyama Xiu Xin replied with a slight smile.
"Sure! Xiu Xin...san."
Zhongshan Mie said to Aoyama Xiu Xin, "Qian Yu is naive, so I hope Police Chief Aoyama can take good care of her."
"Of course," Aoyama Xiu Xin nodded.
He then said his goodbyes because tonight he still had to deal with Miho Hashimoto, to completely make her submit; he couldn’t halt for a day, to keep deepening his influence in her heart and her fear of him.
Otherwise, she’d easily forget past pains and start thinking about how to get rid of him.
Parking outside Takizawa Shikou’s house, Aoyama Xiu Xin called Miho Hashimoto with a commanding tone, "I’m outside your house, you have three minutes, do not make me wait long."
His tiger-head has become a battle-damaged version.
And then he drove back to his own Toyota Corolla.
