Chapter 144: Chapter 140: Truly Deserving of Being Japanese! Brother Against Brother?
June 27, Saturday.
In the morning, after learning through a phone call that Noda’s family had been detained and Yamada Yuuji had relayed the message to Noda, Aoyama Xiu Xin felt rather pleased.
He was now looking forward to the trial on Monday.
After freshening up, styling his hair, and putting on a silver-gray suit, Aoyama Xiu Xin stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his tie with an indifferent cold smirk.
"Trying to fight me? I’ll play you to death."
After muttering to himself, he softened his expression to his usual mild and refreshing smile as he went downstairs.
At that time, Aoyama Haruko was doing housework, bending over to wipe the table; her perky behind wrapped in sky-blue jeans, presented a steep curve. Hearing footsteps, she turned around and smiled, "Good morning Xiu Xin, you seem in a good mood today. Breakfast is in the kitchen, could you lend a hand?"
Her forehead was slightly sweaty with a few strands of hair sticking to it, her cheeks reddish, seemingly tired and slightly out of breath.
"Hi!" Aoyama Xiu Xin responded and then went to the kitchen to bring the breakfast to the dining table, calling out to his sister-in-law, "Sister-in-law, stop working, let’s eat first."
"I’ll just wash my hands and come," Aoyama Haruko replied with a smile, putting aside her chores to go wash her hands.
Moments later, she sat across Aoyama Xiu Xin; because she was fairly short, she sat quite close to the dining table. Her heavy conscience under the white T-shirt seemed somewhat distorted from compression, and feeling uncomfortable, she could only slightly arch her chest forward, resting it, as always, on the tabletop.
The poor table, Aoyama Xiu Xin felt quite sympathetic.
............
Meanwhile, far away in Saitama Prefecture, Aoyama Suzumasa was also having breakfast, but he was not alone.
At his table was a slender woman, modestly attractive, holding a chubby toddler, about one or two years old.
Indeed, the reason Aoyama Suzumasa was unconcerned about his wife in Saitama Prefecture was that he had another wife here.
And crucially, he had his own child here.
He and Aoyama Haruko had been married for many years, and although they were often apart, they had shared a bed. Yet, Aoyama Haruko had never shown signs of pregnancy, which disappointed him.
As a man determined to restore his family’s glory, he placed great importance on progeny.
After all, the Aoyama family was now too thin in number.
He later met his current lover, Ashida Kazuko, in Saitama Prefecture and after dating for half a year, she got pregnant and gave birth last year.
It was a boy!
For the sake of his future, he kept his relationship with Ashida Kazuko secret, claiming publicly that the child was her ex-boyfriend’s. But his focus had shifted here, increasingly neglecting Aoyama Haruko.
Assuming others shared his faults, he strongly suspected his brother had an affair with his wife. After all, his brother was in his prime, his wife beautiful; how could nothing happen after living together for so long?
He himself couldn’t remain chaste.
Certainly, Aoyama Haruko couldn’t either.
Especially since the last time Aoyama Xiu Xin beat him up to defend Aoyama Haruko, which only confirmed his suspicions.
Although slightly annoyed, he was more uncaring, given he wasn’t faithful either, having even fathered a child.
Moreover, he didn’t want to blow things out of proportion, as his illegitimate child affair could become widely known.
That would ruin any talk of a future.
Even more, he was eager to facilitate his wife and his brother’s affair, because only if Aoyama Haruko herself wasn’t clean would she not dare make a fuss on the day his affair was exposed.
Especially after learning that his brother was soon to be the esteemed son-in-law of the Asakai family, he was even more willing to let his brother and his wife continue their affair. After sleeping with his wife, how could his brother not help him out?
If Aoyama Xiu Xin knew his thoughts, he would surely say, "You truly are a Japanese."
"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!"
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Ashida Kazuko, holding the child, got ready to answer the door.
"Allow me," said Aoyama Suzumasa as he put down his silverware, wiped his mouth, stood up, and upon opening the door, found a young stranger. He asked, "May I help you..."
"I am Nipponjiro, sorry for the intrusion, disturbing Mr. Aoyama," Nipponjiro said with a smile, extending his hand.
Aoyama Suzumasa instinctively shook it, but his eyes still held confusion, "I didn’t catch your..."
"Mr. Aoyama, shouldn’t you invite me in first?" Nipponjiro interrupted.
"My apologies." Aoyama Suzumasa released his hand, stepped aside, and gestured inside, "Please come in, sir."
Nipponjiro took off his shoes and stepped inside, his gaze landing on the bowing Ashida Kazuko and then on the child in her arms, and he said cheerfully, "The child really resembles Mr. Aoyama!"
"This gentleman, this is the child of my ex-boyfriend and me," said Ashida Kazuko with a strained smile.
Nipponjiro turned his head, looking at Aoyama Sosuke with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, "What do you think, your lady in Tokyo will believe this, and so will the citizens, Mr. Aoyama?"
The threat was literally written on his forehead.
"Take the child upstairs first," Aoyama Sosuke told Ashida Kazuko, then turned back to Nipponjiro with a dark look, "Who exactly are you? What do you want? Please speak frankly."
His relationship with Ashida Kazuko had been very secretive; the fact that this man could find them here was clearly a bad sign.
"Very well! Mr. Aoyama speaks freely, I like that," Nipponjiro laughed, then pulled a business card from his pocket, "Let’s formally introduce ourselves."
Aoyama Sosuke took it and glanced at it; the man was president of a real estate company, "President Renping, are you interested in investing in Saitama Prefecture?"
Due to the economic downturn, the Japanese Government was ready to launch major infrastructure projects this year to stimulate economic development. Knowing the insider details, Renping started a company hoping to profit from this opportunity.
"No, no, no, I have another identity; I am the son of the Police Director General," said Nipponjiro, shaking his head.
Hearing this, Aoyama Sosuke’s gaze became more solemn, "President Renping, please have a seat."
At the same time, he recalled the recent incident where Ninpei Oshiro framed Aoyama Xiu Xin and guessed the visitor’s intention, yet he did not let it show.
"Mr. Aoyama is indeed very pragmatic," Nipponjiro said as he sat down, his tone mocking as he surveyed the room’s décor, "Living cozily in Saitama Prefecture with wife and child, are you really so comfortable leaving your beautiful wife and brother alone together? You know how open we Japanese are about these matters!"
"President Renping, please watch your words!" admonished Aoyama Sosuke sternly, his tone icy; what he felt internally was one thing, but publicly he had to uphold his family’s honor.
"I apologize for any offense," said Nipponjiro nonchalantly, then added, "I know you have always wanted to enter Congress, and have worked hard for it without much success, but if you help me, I can get you into Congress."
"Please elaborate, President Renping," Aoyama Sosuke inhaled sharply, sitting upright, his eyes fixed intently on him.
"With a cold expression, Nipponjiro said, "Aoyama Xiu Xin has offended me. I want you to help me get my revenge on him."
He had learned to be smart: not to attack Aoyama Xiu Xin directly but to circumvent by targeting his family members.
This would increase the success rate of his revenge plan.
From ancient times, betrayal by a loved one had always been the most painful; he wanted Aoyama Xiu Xin to taste the bitterness of being backstabbed by his own elder brother, to pit the brothers against each other!
"What?" Aoyama Sosuke’s expression changed.
"As long as you teach him a lesson, our family can certainly help you get into Congress. Keep in mind, my elder brother was once a member of the House of Representatives. Without our help, you might not even retain your County Councilor position in the next election," said Nipponjiro, eyes fixed on him.
He didn’t use the matter of Ashida Kazuko and the child to threaten him, since just finding this place was already a threat. Explicitly stating it would seem redundant.
"President Renping, do you know who Aoyama Xiu Xin is? He is my own brother, my beloved family!" said Aoyama Sosuke, word by word.
Unperturbed and confident, Nipponjiro asked lightly, "And so?"
He had come because he already knew about the poor relationship between Aoyama Sosuke and Aoyama Xiu Xin.
"Then add money!" declared Aoyama Sosuke, continuing, "A mere promise of a National Member of Parliament position is not enough; tangible benefits are also necessary."
"No problem, my sincerity will be delivered to you in a few days. I promise you won’t be disappointed," agreed Nipponjiro, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.
Thinking that he could sell even his own younger brother, and still believe he could revitalize his family was laughable to the extreme.
Aoyama Sosuke broke into a smile, "Then there is no problem. Do you have a plan, President Renping?"
"You are his elder brother and know him best. This is up to you. I don’t care about the process, just the results, at the very minimum, he must lose his office and be utterly disgraced!" Nipponjiro declared, his face twisted with malice.
Aoyama Sosuke’s expression became serious, "Yes!"
"I await the good news," Nipponjiro declared, rising and leaving without a backward glance.
"Take care, President Renping!" Aoyama Sosuke rose and bowed in farewell, only lifting his head after hearing the door close.
His expression gradually changed to one of icy resolve.
He then picked up the receiver and dialed his home in Tokyo, "Haruko, let Xiu Xin come to the phone immediately."
Although he had not been on good terms with Aoyama Xiu Xin in the past.
But even with conflicts, they were brothers; he only had that one sibling. Plus, Aoyama Xiu Xin had deep ties with the Yanchuan Family and was about to be married into the Asakai family, which would likely boost his career and revitalize their family.
He could benefit from his brother’s success too.
So how could he possibly conspire with outsiders to harm the family’s beacon of hope, a brother with such a promising future?
That would be akin to sabotaging his own future!
Moreover, setting aside personal feelings and speaking purely from a standpoint of benefits, if he really did that, who would trust him once word got out that he could betray even his own brother?
Nipponjiro believed framing Aoyama Xiu Xin for having an affair with his wife could drive a wedge between them; believed that threatening him with the child Ashida Kazuko bore him could browbeat him; believed that the empty promise of getting him into Congress could tempt him?
Ridiculous! Despicable! Sorrowful! Pitiable!
