To His Hell and Back
Chapter 100: Fairness In Cruelty

Chapter 100: Fairness In Cruelty

While Arabella and Cassius had slowly loosened the knots between them, the castle was thrown into an uproar as Lady Genevieve had rushed the servants to call the vampire doctors. While taking out a fang of a vampire was always a gesture to show power and dominance, the act of pulling a vampire fang was no less deadly than a stab in the heart with a silver blade.

Their fangs were connected to a nerve in their heart. If the act wasn’t done carefully, it could kill them.

One knows that Cassius wasn’t gentle or careful. He didn’t take into consideration whether his cousin would survive, pulling the fang in such a way that was enough to make every vampire who had witnessed it to shudder in fear.

The servants who were cleaning the blood began to murmur to themselves,

"It’s His Highness’s punishment. I heard Lady Adele was the one who had crossed him."

The other servants muttered back, "How foolish. Don’t they know already how frightening it is to go against His Highness’s words and demands? They must have thought he could become an easier target as he took in that human pet."

"Well from what I heard, this is caused by the human pet," said the other servant when they stopped their words and rumors as they saw their friend opposite to them palling. She quickly turned her head, startled to see Minister Rueben who had crossed his hands behind his back, silently staring at them.

"Why have you stopped?"

The servants cried out, "My apologies, Minister!"

"No, don’t," he ordered and bent down with a grin, "So tell me what had happened?"

Though fearful, vampires were always taught to obey the strongest and they knew Minister Rueben’s prowess as well as his rank. Without any hesitation, they told him everything that had taken place in the afternoon, what happened to Adele who had been punished by Cassius.

Seeing the servants who then fled after finishing their story, Minister Rueben chuckled as he turned his red eyes behind toward Iliza who had followed him all day. Her forearm was wrapped in a bandage but this time it wasn’t Rueben that had wounded her, it was by her own will. She had seen Lucien and knew how he was someone Minister Rueben wanted to pull to his side thus she had given her blood to form that friendship.

She had nothing much to say about Lucien other than a man with a loose morale. While she had cut her hand and placed it into the glass, Lucien was eyeing her body entirely, stopping his gaze at her curves and grinning. He had even asked if he could borrow her for the night, a truly despicable type of man considering he was engaged.

But this works well for Iliza. She needed someone like Lucien, someone easily controlled by his desire and lust for her own safety, unlike Cassius whose brain seemed to operate in a cold logical way.

"Seems like your little friend had proven to master the way to tame His Highness the Crown Prince," he mentioned and Iliza bubbled with jealousy, her eyes turning green from envy. He smiled seeing that, "Why? Are you not satisfied being my slave?"

She turned and looked up at him, giving him the gaze of a weak fawn, "Of course not."

Of course yes. She didn’t plan to continue being Rueben’s pet. She knew well how this would end as unlike Cassius who truly cared for Arabella enough to let her sleep in his room, Rueben took joy in her suffering. He was dangerous, someone she couldn’t trust.

Yet why she chose to become his pet you asked? Because this momentary master of her was rather as deceptive as her. She had made it her plan to turn her back to Rueben at any given opportunity and make Cassius to take her in.

It’s simply because now Rueben also has an aligned goal with her, which is erasing Arabella for good.

After hearing from the servants what had happened, Iliza became curious, wondering if Adele was someone she could use. After all to vampires, the act of losing a fang is no less shameful. That means Lady Adele is guaranteed to wish Arabella’s death as well.

She tugged the corner of her left lip, walking across the hallway toward where Adele was being taken care of by the doctor. But before she could enter, she saw the young man who she had been searching for over and over again. That young man was Malvo who was conversing with Lucien.

As a human, Malvo was never afforded the same respect as Cassius, especially by Cassius’s maternal family, who viewed every offspring of Queen Morgana as a threat. However, unlike his mother, Malvo was never truly despised. It wasn’t a matter of underestimation due to his lack of power. His humanity alone was not enough to make them lower their guard. Rather, it was because Malvo had never carried himself with the arrogance expected of a noble.

He had always spoken well, offering politeness to everyone else including Cassius. Even compared to Marissa, Malvo was unhesitant to talk to Cassius in a friendlier manner.

Lucien himself always showed how he thinks of him as nothing but a lowly human but Malvo was still in the line to the heir, so he couldn’t openly show his demeaning attitude.

"I have to say that Cassius had gone too far to my sister this time," said Lucien as he scrunched his nose. "So what if his pet dies? He always has that odd obsession towards things weaker than him, taking care of it as if he has the heart of a human," he scoffed, "One day it’s going to become his Hell and kill him."

Malvo lowered his eyes, looking at the marble floor as he answered, "I think it quite differently."

Lucien raised his eyebrows and seeing that Malvo offered a pleasant smile.

"Brother Cassius is always a rational person yet there has always been someone who would test his patience, wanting to see whether he’s capable of showing his authority," He then looked at Lady Genevieve inside the bedroom who had ushered the doctor too quickly take care of her daughter, feeding the human’s blood as it would heal Adele faster. Malvo then turned back to Lucien, his blonde haired vampiric step cousin, "It’s not a matter of what had been touched or attacked. It’s the matter of who dares to step over his boundary and he was simply teaching a lesson so everyone would know when to step back."

Lucien was unhappy. Sure he wasn’t too fond of his noisy sister and wasn’t too worried even if she had died. He didn’t even try to step and stop Cassius when the entire thing had happened but that didn’t mean he was happy that Malvo spoke knowingly like a Wiseman as if what had happened was something Adele had caused herself.

He narrowed his eyes, "Adele is his blood related family. He should extend more mercy towards her."

"I suppose not," Malvo chuckled briefly, "If he spares any mercy, especially to his family, that would become a bigger weakness for him. I like his cruelty," he then chimed, "The cruelty Brother Cassius extends has always been fair. And isn’t that so delightfully upright?"

Lucien was unhappy as Malvo’s words were all truth and no lies that he could ever deny. Though annoyed, he was quiet while Malvo pointed, "Who knows who would still be alive tomorrow for crossing him? You or me, it doesn’t matter whether we share the same blood as him or whether we came from a high rank, once we cross the line, we’re as good as dead."
