Thriving in the Beast World -
Chapter 723 - 727 The Emperor is Dead
Chapter 723: Chapter 727 The Emperor is Dead
A peaceful day.
In order to make their performance more convincing, Su Tang and the others did not roast meat over the fire that day.
The food was brought by Liao Li’s men, as it always had been, painfully unpalatable.
Indeed, as planned, they arrived at the entrance of the Wood Immortal Mansion before sunset.
Su Tang had initially thought that the Wood Immortal Mansion would be a grand house, with green bricks and red tiles, bridges over flowing water, pavilions, and luxurious yet simple courtyards.
Unexpectedly, there were no traces of buildings at all, only vast sky-reaching trees surrounded the place.
However, there were two odd trees whose branches twisted together to form a circular arch, which looked like a door.
On the trunk, obscured by the leaves, there were five irregular-shaped gaps, presumably to fit in five Crystal Stones.
Upon their safe arrival, Liao Li was in high spirits!
He gestured grandly, "Rest here. We’ll go in tomorrow morning!"
No one objected.
Perhaps because they were about to explore an unknown world the next day, everyone was anxious, and the surrounding was quiet.
Su Tang and her team were equally nervous, keeping a close watch on the Emperor’s movements.
When everyone had finished their dinner, there was still no news.
Su Tang couldn’t help but start to wonder, "Did Liao Li and Bai Ling eat all the roast meat and leave none for the Emperor?"
It’s been an entire day and there still has been no movement. That’s impossible!
Today, in order to get here before sunset, they had barely rested along the way. Thus, once they relaxed, Su Tang started to feel drowsy.
Snuggled in Gaiyin’s arms, she was on the verge of falling asleep. Suddenly, a piercing scream split the night, awakening everyone from their sleep.
Su Tang sprang up from Gaiyin’s arms, dazedly asking, "What happened?"
Gaiyin opened his eyes as well.
His eyes were clear, his ink-black pupils gleamed slightly, his lips curled into a smirk, "It’s time to reel in the net."
Su Tang came to her senses after a beat, her breath hitched at the realization. She whispered, "Is the Emperor dead?"
Gaiyin helped her up, "We’ll know when we go out and see."
The two walked out of the tent.
Several torches had been lit outside, and many people had gotten up to see what was happening.
Upon meeting Yadang and the others, everyone exchanged glances but no words were spoken.
When they reached the scene of the incident.
A Beast Soldier was kneeling at Liao Li’s feet, wailing with tears streaming down his face.
The Emperor lay spread out nearby, uncountable streaks of Black Blood oozing from his eyes, nostrils, ears, and corners of his mouth, soaking his homespun clothes.
He stared at the sky with a despairing look on his face. It wasn’t hard to imagine that he could hardly believe he was poisoned even in his dying moments!
LiaoLi’s expression was indescribably grim. He lashed out and kicked the Beast Soldier, "Useless! When I told you to look after the Emperor, is this how you do it?"
That Beast Soldier was kicked so hard that he rolled over twice before scrambling up to kowtow in apology to Liao Li.
"Spare me, lord! I didn’t know what happened either. When I brought him the meat in the evening, the Emperor said he didn’t have an appetite and had me fetch some hot water instead.
But we didn’t bring enough pottery with us this time, so I found a stone and hollowed it out to boil the water. This delayed me for a while, and when I came back with the hot water, the Emperor had..."
