Chapter 306: Chapter 307: Stubborn Huang Yuan
"Uncle, come with us to the camp’s cafeteria. I’ve got some questions I need your help with."
The light in Huang Yuan’s eyes flickered slightly.
Although he was curious and wanted to check the place out, he stubbornly refused, "Why should I go? Can’t you see I’m busy here?"
While he was talking, he was polishing the wood in his hand, but his eyes couldn’t help darting towards Su Tang and Gaiyin from time to time.
Su Tang shot Gaiyin a glance, then sweetly reached out and took Huang Yuan’s arm. "Please, Uncle, come to see it with us. If you’re not there, we might not be able to get the house built!"
Huang Yuan felt somewhat surprised at hearing this, but more than that, he felt pleased.
Had he, without realizing it, become so valuable to the tribe?
Although he was so elated he felt like he could fly, he maintained an aloof demeanor on the surface, stroking his goat beard and replied gamely.
"Well, if that’s the case, I’ll come and see. But I’m warning you, whether I help you or let you down depends on my mood at the time."
Su Tang nodded happily in response, "Of course, I could never pressure you into anything~"
Then, Su Tang helped Huang Yuan to walk up front, while Gaiyin followed behind carrying a wooden door and window. The three of them proceeded to the camp’s cafeteria together.
The first floor of this cafeteria was already nearly completed, even the staircase leading up to the second floor was built.
Huge walls about three or four meters high were constructed entirely using bricks, neatly arranged in an interlocking manner, lending the building strength and rigidity.
The floor was also paved with bricks, neatly arranged, pleasing to the eye. Many stone pillars were left in the hall for the construction of the second floor.
To enhance its stability, the stone pillars, constructed of bricks in a hollow-center style, had sturdy logs placed within the cavity, then filled with a mixture of mud and sand.
The kitchen, windows, and private rooms were already separated, completing the entire first floor, except for the spots that needed wooden windows and doors installed.
This was the first time Huang Yuan had seen the house that Su Tang was talking about. His eyes were wider than almonds in awe.
"This... this... is this the house you were talking about?"
Su Tang nodded.
"This place is a camp cafeteria, Tribe people will eat here together. Our own homes will be much smaller than this, but they’ll be very delicate."
Without saying a word, Huang Yuan followed Su Tang’s lead around the entire camp’s cafeteria.
He saw many familiar faces among the Tribe, all beaming with happiness. It made him think back to their old lives in the underground caves with hearts like dying embers. The realization didn’t sit well with him.
His obstinate heart seemed to be gradually disintegrating bit by bit.
Huang Yuan, wearing a stern expression, stated, "Tell me, what’s the use of your so-called wooden doors and windows? I’ve put in lots of effort to make them, and if they don’t satisfy me, I won’t help at all!"
Su Tang smiled lightly. She beckoned two of the Beastmen over, whispered something in their ears, and they quickly ran off, returning shortly with a tub of the mixed mud.
She then took the wooden window from Gaiyin and placed it in the space prepared for it.
