Chapter 70: 70. Art Studio
Tanaka Takashi’s breathing unconsciously slowed down, and it felt like his heart was about to leap out of his chest. He couldn’t help but wipe his eyes, feeling his hands and feet grow cold.
The doll he was holding had been placed in Xucha High School’s activity building beforehand for the effect of the show. They had made it look old and worn with very fine craftsmanship, and the eeriness was taken to the extreme.
But compared to the creepy and cold little doll on Beichuan Si’s shoulder, the ’prop’ he was holding in his hands seemed rather comical.
It wasn’t that the prop wasn’t frightening enough, but rather that the doll on the other side seemed to truly harbor a spirit, one look would make someone feel ice water soaking through them, chilling to the bone.
He swallowed, looking again.
The doll still lay quietly on Beichuan Si’s shoulder, as if all of what Tanaka Takashi had just seen was an illusion.
Beichuan Si obviously felt Tanaka Takashi’s gaze. He looked toward Nishijou Kurenai, lying on his shoulder, but unexpectedly, he did not wrap her in his scarf.
As mentioned before, it was okay to let her out for some air late at night. As her current guardian, Beichuan Si did not want to break his promise.
After all, it’s better for a parent to teach by example.
"Don’t be too naughty," Beichuan Si said in a subdued voice without turning his head.
Tanaka Takashi tensed up, "Mr. Beichuan, who were you talking to just now? What were you saying?!"
"I didn’t say much. Let’s go to the third floor," Beichuan Si said in an even tone.
Seeing him maintain his casual demeanor, Tanaka Takashi’s emotions, which had been somewhat stirred, were forcibly calmed down. He nodded, "If that’s the case, let’s head to the third floor. But the path to the right is blocked by desks and chairs; it’ll take some effort to clear..."
"The staircase on the left can be used to reach the third floor normally, with no obstructions," Beichuan Si said flatly.
"Really? Then I’ll call Yingzhu over now! Wait here for a moment."
Tanaka Takashi turned and left without further ado.
And not long after he left, a series of loud crackling noises suddenly came from the staircase on the left.
Beichuan Si shone his flashlight over.
He saw a head with a plastic look rolling over from the shadows, stopping at Beichuan Si’s feet.
A mannequin head.
However, this mannequin seemed a bit odd, its facial expression was very exaggerated, grinning malevolently at Beichuan Si—
Then Beichuan Si kicked the mannequin’s head away. Accompanied by a patter of sounds, the head rolled back into the shadows.
Beichuan Si closed his eyes, continuing to wait for Yamakou Hideyasu and Tanaka Takashi.
Hidden in the shadows, Tanaka Takashi and Yamakou Hideyasu were also impressed upon seeing this scene.
This Beichuan Si was truly fearless; no trick could scare him.
If they were to walk unknowingly down an eerie corridor and suddenly have a creepy mannequin head spring out from the darkness, they would probably be petrified with fear.
It was about time to head out.
Tanaka Takashi switched the live camera feed back on and walked out with Yamakou Hideyasu.
"Sorry, sorry, Yingzhu made some discoveries over there, so we’re late. Mr. Beichuan, you didn’t encounter anything strange, did you?" Tanaka Takashi chuckled as he tentatively asked.
"I didn’t come across anything. It’s all small stuff."
"...Really?" Tanaka Takashi felt a bit annoyed.
The task force put considerable effort into their setup here, but to Beichuan Si, it was all "just a trifling matter."
Looking at Beichuan Si, who wasn’t even slightly startled, not even raising an eyebrow, Yamakou Hideyasu’s mouth twitched:
"Since that’s the case, let’s head to the third floor, hoping we can discover some nice finds."
The trio decided without any hesitation, heading straight to the third floor via the staircase on the left.
It’s worth noting that the moment they stepped onto the staircase to the third floor, a headless human body model suddenly dropped from above—
And then Beichuan Si kicked it into pieces in mid-air.
Watching the body model shatter into several pieces in the air, Tanaka Takashi and Yamakou Hideyasu’s expressions were particularly splendid.
If that kick had landed on a person...
...
Xucha Activities Building, also known as Xucha Cultural Building, is a four-story structure. The first floor is mainly for judo or karate, Sword Dao dojos, the second floor for cultural clubs such as reading clubs, literature clubs, and the like. The third floor houses art rooms, music rooms, and so on. The dance club and light music club are on the fourth floor.
In fact, there isn’t much difference between the third and second floors, just slight differences in the division of classrooms.
The two classrooms on the left side of the third floor are connected and collectively used as an art room, while the right side is divided into three rooms, all used as music rooms.
Initially, Yamakou Hideyasu planned to stick to their original split-up, with Mr. Beichuan exploring the left side and the two of them the right side. However, Mr. Beichuan naturally stretched his hand out and pointed to the right, indicating his interest in going that way this time.
Alright... how could they not fulfill a fan’s request?
Yamakou Hideyasu didn’t insist.
Secret mechanisms were actually present on both sides, but unless one intentionally touched them, they were quite difficult to trigger. Besides, with Mr. Beichuan’s demeanor, Yamakou wasn’t worried he’d be frightened by such mechanisms.
The trio temporarily split up again.
Mr. Beichuan waited until Yamakou Hideyasu and Tanaka Takashi entered their respective classrooms before turning his gaze away, poking Nishijou Kurenai’s cheek and asking:
"Do you mean that the afterimage we just saw is hidden on this side?"
Mr. Beichuan himself had no such sense, but Nishijou Kurenai, being a spirit, seemed to have a natural reaction to these things. Any ’peculiarity’ she had encountered once, she seemed to be able to respond to instantly, like a little radar.
Nishijou Kurenai pat-patted Mr. Beichuan’s cheek as she stood up, stretching out her chubby little hand towards the art room.
Does that mean it’s inside the art room?
Mr. Beichuan’s spirit lifted, and he quickly stepped forward and pushed open the door.
Inside the art room, all was silent. The windows fully blocked by ivy, not even a sliver of moonlight could penetrate.
The whole art room exuded a disconcerting stillness, utterly lifeless.
From Mr. Beichuan’s perspective, the numerous upright easels, not yet removed, resembled from a distance grotesque and twisted human figures.
Some easels were arranged in a circle, with a dust-laden half-body plaster cast in the center.
Mr. Beichuan replaced his flashlight with a new one and shone it around the art room.
In the front and back of the room, paintings of Picasso, Da Vinci, Van Gogh, and others were hanging. In the back was a large storage cabinet, and the floor was littered with portfolios, drawing boards, paint palettes, and blender pens, among other necessities of an art room.
However, the paint on them had long since dried up.
Following Nishijou Kurenai’s guidance, Mr. Beichuan stepped in, bypassing the eerie and terrifying easels, and headed straight to the storage cabinet.
Inside, it seemed as though there was something—
