Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Can’t Stop at All
Under the icy gaze of Beichuan Si, the middle-aged man couldn’t help but step back twice.
He didn’t understand why he was afraid of a young man, but Beichuan Si’s eyes were like some dangerous and terrifying object, making his legs uncontrollably tremble.
"What, what do you want to do?" the middle-aged man gasped, with cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
Beichuan Si watched him for a long time before he finally looked away and said,
"Which room does the landlord live in?"
"... Room 152. It’s downstairs," the middle-aged man said, swallowing his saliva with difficulty while his fingers trembled as he pointed to the floor.
"Is that so?" Beichuan Si walked past the middle-aged man without expression.
Without an apology or thanks.
After all, the man was just someone who casually gossiped about others, and Beichuan Si inherently had a poor impression of such people.
Not hitting him was already the best reward Beichuan Si could give for the information the man had provided.
Following the middle-aged man’s directions, Beichuan Si arrived at the landlord’s door and knocked.
The landlord, a bespectacled uncle with some balding, politely explained his reason for visiting. The kind-hearted bespectacled uncle not only took the keys but also followed Beichuan Si to room 265’s door.
Beichuan Si, in front of the landlord, dialed Sato Ryosuke’s mobile phone, confirmed that it was indeed in the room, after which the bespectacled uncle knocked on the door.
Still no response.
It was as if someone was dead inside, the ringing tone echoing inside the room emitted an inexplicable eerie sense.
"I told you, Sato took a woman with him yesterday... and then he never left the house..." the middle-aged man curiously peeked over to check the situation and then murmured softly when he saw they were still trying in vain.
But he quickly saw Beichuan Si’s gaze turning towards him, as if he wanted to devour him, and subconsciously shut his mouth.
"Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Landlord," Beichuan Si turned and said.
His eyebrows tightly furrowed, the current situation seemed somewhat amiss.
"Alright..." The balding landlord coughed heavily, took out the keychain hanging by his waist, picked out the key for room 265, and unlocked the security door.
Creak—
The shrill sound of the security door opening made one’s teeth tingle.
The middle-aged man finally couldn’t resist and began to complain to the landlord beside Beichuan Si.
"I already told you, Mr. Nakamura, the security door for Sato’s room is broken. I get woken up every day by the noise of him opening and closing the door."
It seems the middle-aged man was endlessly irritated by the noise from the broken security door, which is perhaps why he had used such sarcastic words to describe Sato earlier.
The middle-aged tall man was still complaining when he suddenly felt the atmosphere was a bit off.
Beichuan Si and the balding landlord had fallen into a strange silence at this point.
Beichuan Si seemed alright, his expression unchanged, just his eyebrows tightly knitted.
The other side, the balding landlord, covered his throat, fearfully falling to the ground, his mouth twitching as if he was about to vomit something.
What on earth happened?
The middle-aged tall man couldn’t help but murmur to himself, curiously sticking his head forward.
It was then that he saw the scene inside the room.
Looking in from here, one could see the lightless living room.
The furnishings in the living room were simple, with a heating stove, a desk, and a television.
But lying on the ground was the most attention-grabbing thing in the entire room.
It was a corpse with eyes wide open, losing focus, and a mouth gaping in terror, slit wide at the throat.
Blood had spilled all over the tatami mats like a small stream—
Those eyes were staring fixedly toward the doorway, intently watching this side.
Ugh—
The middle-aged man and the bald landlord were quick to vomit.
"How, how did this happen? How could it be like this?" The middle-aged man trembled, vomiting while his kneeling legs couldn’t help but retreat backward, subconsciously wanting to escape from this bloody horror.
But Beichuan Si didn’t pay him any attention, he stepped into the room while saying to the landlord behind him,
"Mr. Landlord, please call the police."
"Ah, right! Call the police!" The bald landlord, having almost thrown up everything, nodded, just about to call the police, when he saw the ghastly scene in the room again and started retching tremendously, his phone flung to the side.
Watching these two unable to stop themselves, Beichuan Si couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose, took a deep breath, and pulled out his phone to dial 110 to report the incident.
After briefly describing the scene and the location, Beichuan Si efficiently hung up the call.
This month alone, he didn’t know how many emergency calls he had made to Gangye Yoshiko, he was already well-versed with the entire procedure.
After pondering for a bit on the spot, Beichuan Si called Gangye Yoshiko again.
"What?! You’ve found yet another murder scene?!" Gangye Yoshiko’s voice sounded like that of a woman undergoing early menopause, filled with disbelief,
"Are you not only causing trouble in Tokyo, but now you encounter murder cases everywhere you go?!"
Are you the "Death God" of schoolchildren?
Gangye Yoshiko was immensely exasperated.
Beichuan Si didn’t want to waste words with Gangye Yoshiko and simply said,
"Rather than that, I’d like to talk to you about the statement..."
"You still have to cooperate with the local police for the necessary statements, I can’t do anything about that, Iwate Prefecture isn’t under my jurisdiction, you really are..." Gangye Yoshiko was about to finish her sentence light-heartedly—
But before she could finish, she realized Beichuan Si had already hung up the call.
"This little rascal!" Gangye Yoshiko couldn’t help but curse.
...
After hanging up the phone, Beichuan Si then completely stepped into the crime scene.
First, he focused his attention on his eyes, looking for any resentful spirits at the scene, and after realizing there were none, he raised an eyebrow, somewhat disappointedly sighed.
Ordinary people had a chance of becoming a vengeful spirit.
Usually, there were two or three basic conditions.
Firstly, one must suffer immense pain or torture before death, which would form resentment or obsession in the heart, and then the intensity of the resentment or obsession, the stronger the resentment and obsession, the more likely a resentful spirit could form.
But apparently, Sato Ryosuke didn’t belong to the latter, maybe he had resentment before death, but it was not strong.
"Wait! What do you think you’re doing?!" The middle-aged man behind him looked in shock at the young man in front, alarmed by his actions.
An adult being shocked by the scene to the point of instability, and here was Beichuan Si walking unaffected?
What was this about?
Beichuan Si ignored the middle-aged man, took off his shoes, stepped onto the tatami, and, frowning, wanted to search for some clues left behind by the criminal.
