Chapter 61: Chapter 61. Exploring Spirits on Live Stream?
Beichuan Si sat on a long bench deep in the park, holding a fried pork patty in his hand, chewing while looking at various pieces of information about Xucha High School in Yashan City.
As mentioned before, it is now the 21st century, an era of widespread internet use, where information is exchanged quickly.
SNS networks, Google searches, forums dedicated to exploring paranormal and spiritual sites.
In these places, one could catch glimpses of Xucha High School.
There were rumors that if one entered Xucha High School at midnight, they would encounter the tormented souls of those who perished in the fire disaster, dressed neatly and attentively taking their classes, as if they were unaware of their own deaths.
There were also tales that the long stairs of Xucha High School always had one step too many, that the furthest stall in the girls’ restroom would always emit strange dripping sounds at night, and that twisted shadows in the dance studio would pull you into a world within the mirror with just a turn of your head...
These urban legends that were commonplace throughout Japan were all present at Xucha High School, and some exaggerated claims emphasized that many spiritual site enthusiasts had vanished within its depths.
But as Beichuan Si carefully watched the videos and photos uploaded by horror and paranormal bloggers, he saw they merely circled the periphery, with few actually daring to step inside Xucha High School.
"This really isn’t of any reference value," Beichuan Si muttered as he casually stuffed the fried pork patty into the eagerly outstretched hands of Nishijou Kurenai, cautioning her, "Don’t let the oil stain your scarf."
After all, Nishijou Kurenai could only smell the aroma; she couldn’t eat it. There weren’t many people around, nor was there anyone to witness the spectacle of a ’doll come to life.’
So, seeing that Nishijou Kurenai finally managed to grip the patty with her plump hands, Beichuan Si couldn’t be bothered to pay her further attention.
He continued scanning the information about Xucha High School.
And as he did, he stumbled upon a piece of useful information.
"Two famous paranormal forum hosts reveal the secrets hidden in the fire at Xucha High School ten years ago? Audience members at Xucha High School will be randomly selected to be the lucky guests, with the entire event live-streamed tonight at ten o’clock?"
Beichuan Si’s eyebrows knitted tightly together.
A live stream by paranormal forum hosts was definitely not conducive for him to explore Xucha High School alone, let alone make a solo trip to the sophomore Class B that was hit by the fire.
That place was undoubtedly where the two paranormal bloggers would be visiting.
However, after a moment, his brows relaxed, and he skipped over the message.
If need be, he could just wrap up his investigation of Xucha High School early this morning to avoid overlapping with the live stream of the paranormal bloggers.
Having decided, he promptly set out.
Beichuan Si took the pork patty from Nishijou Kurenai, who handed it back to him, and swallowed it in two or three bites. He then tossed the wrapping paper into a nearby trash bin and stood back up.
Let’s go!
Destination, Xucha High School!
Beichuan Si wrapped Nishijou Kurenai up in the scarf once again and briskly made his way towards Xucha High School, following the route on the map.
...
Xucha High School.
Prior to the emergence of the serial killer Ishikawa Kaoru and the subsequent fire, it was considered a decent private high school in Yashan City.
But following the incidents involving Ishikawa Kaoru and the fire resulting in dozens of deaths, the school was urgently closed under public pressure and government scrutiny for improper education and insufficient safety facilities.
The fire occurred over a weekend break, and for some unknown reason, every member of the sophomore Class B was present at Xucha Private High School at that time. The police found evidence of arson but never caught the arsonist, and so the case gradually evolved into bizarre rumors of mass suicide or some cult belief on the internet.
This strange and terrifying sequence of events came to be known as the start of all the paranormal happenings at Xucha High School.
Perhaps the only person who knew the truth behind the incidents was the survivor that the police kept secret.
But a decade is quite a long time, and history has covered up who knows how much.
Beichuan Si stood in front of the entrance to Xucha High School, now sealed shut with cement.
This long row of walls was already full of spray-painted graffiti.
Eerie portraits, twisted spirits’ visages...
But what caught Beichuan Si’s attention the most were still the rows and rows, sentence after sentence, of curses and grievances on the wall.
"XXXX, go die!" "Give me back my child!" "I really want to die..." "I can’t take it anymore."
Spray paints of various colors intertwined, seemingly forming a terrifying, mysterious existence with a wide-open, gaping mouth.
That blood-red, seemingly heart-piercing language of resentment made Beichuan Si involuntarily rub his fingers together.
The resentment of the living... in a way, seemed more intense than the grudge of the dead.
This resentment rose and was buried by the truth of ten years ago.
Xucha High School quietly lay here, as if waiting for each and every soul-spot explorer’s visit...
But—
"There sure are a lot of people here," Beichuan Si frowned, scanning the area back and forth.
At such an early hour, the walls of Xucha High School were already teeming with excited youths.
Most of these people were fans of the two paranormal forum hosts, having camped out here early in hopes of catching a glimpse of their idols.
Some were young college students who had come from nearby urban areas, while others were high school students from Yashan City itself.
These high schoolers weren’t focused on studying but had skipped class to wait here for some internet figures.
Beichuan Si felt a slight sinking in his heart.
"There’s simply no way to get in directly."
He looked up at the wall in front of him, which he estimated to be four to five meters high.
In the eyes of Beichuan Si, this wasn’t an insurmountable height.
However...
Beichuan Si glanced again at the tense, discussing group of fans beside him.
They showed no sign of leaving.
In that case, Beichuan Si couldn’t possibly leap four to five meters in the air and smoothly scale the wall with all of them watching.
If he did that, Beichuan Si believed his information would be all over SNS and various tabloid media the next day.
Beichuan Si didn’t mind showing his abilities in front of others, but he had no intention of making them public.
It was no issue if Shen Gu Mirai and Qian Xia Chiyuki knew, but with such a large crowd...
Beichuan Si uncommonly halted his actions, and a slight notion of waiting arose in his mind.
But even if he left now, the onlookers outside might not leave either.
Some fanatical fans might even be prepared to wait until evening, right?
Beichuan Si quietly pondered a solution, then suddenly felt a tickle in his ear—
It was Nishijou Kurenai stealthily scratching his ear with Yuanyuan’s hand.
"Do you mean that you can help me enter Xucha High School with those two paranormal forum hosts?" Beichuan Si’s eyes lit up.
Did this kid have such an ability?
