This Holy Knight is So Despicable! -
Chapter 84 Life’s Praise
Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Life’s Praise
The immense pressure exuded by Lette made Vanessa feel what true despair was.
So all along, her struggles were utterly meaningless!
From the very start, victory was never an option.
Perhaps, she was merely a gun in someone else’s hand, a pawn on the chessboard.
"Ah!!!!!!"
With anger and unwillingness, Vanessa pushed her power to the maximum and charged toward Lette in a death charge.
Lette, seeing this, had flames spinning wildly at his waist; the light on his body grew even fiercer.
With a surge of power in his legs, Lette also charged toward Vanessa. His speed increased rapidly, eventually transforming into a fiery meteor, colliding with a bang against Vanessa.
Boom!
In an explosion as if the world were ending, Lette stood undisturbed, leaving behind scorched marks, some still burning.
Vanessa, on the other hand, was sent flying into the sky, before crashing heavily onto the ground.
At this moment, her vitality was utterly destroyed, simultaneously dissolving her fusion with Galado. Both human and dragon lay pitifully on the ground, barely breathing.
Lette unfastened the double magic rings from his waist, and his overload form was dispelled. He waved his hand, sending all four Elemental Lords back into his private server.
Looking at the dying human and dragon, Lette turned toward the gate of the Pope Palace.
He wondered if Master Constant would come to see his beloved disciple one last time.
"Help... Please, save Galado..."
Vanessa lay on the ground, her voice faintly audible: "Save her... She’s still young... She knows nothing..."
Lette glanced at the Light Holy Dragon, or rather the Chimera, and shook his head.
"I don’t know what method you’ve used, but forgive me for being powerless.
If she were a true Light Holy Dragon, considering the benefit to the Church Court, perhaps I would give it a try."
While speaking, Lette approached Galado. At this moment, the Phoenix Flame still burned on her, but it was nearing its end.
"But this is a machine you assembled yourself, with all sorts of strange parts, the body in disrepair. The fact that it functions is nothing short of a miracle.
Now, even her creator would probably be helpless."
Lette glanced at the fading Vanessa: "Perhaps this is for the best; living a fragmented and meaningless life may not be a good choice."
Vanessa, full of regret: "She... she really liked this world. It was I... who destroyed her..."
Lette looked at the gradually disintegrating Chimera and spoke softly.
"You see, to make someone happy is so difficult..."
Gradually, Vanessa understood Lette’s meaning. She remained silent for a long time, then looked at the near-death Galado and spoke again.
"Will we meet in the Nether Sea?"
"I don’t know; if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t Galado herself created like a homunculus, formed through alchemy, undead magic, and Phoenix Blood?
She is a forbidden life form.
Whether such a life form has a soul, whether it will head to the Nether Sea... I have not researched it.
Perhaps, she’ll just dissipate into nothingness."
Vanessa said no more, lying there quietly waiting for her destined end to arrive.
Lette stood beside her, gazing at the gates of the Pope Palace.
With Constant’s abilities, he would naturally feel the passing of Vanessa’s life.
Since he chose not to witness her last moment, Lette, as his errant disciple, would testify to Vanessa’s final breath.
However, at the last moment, Vanessa suddenly shuddered, as a powerful Holy Light Power emerged from her body.
Lette frowned: "Hah, indeed, fortunate I didn’t leave prematurely. Afra only ever causes me trouble."
Both the Apprentice Saintess and the Saint Heir have within them the Life Blessing from the Goddess, along with the corresponding Resurrection Divine Spell.
Joanna survived after an attack because of this layer of protection.
But this protection is not omnipotent; for someone like Vanessa, whose vitality was utterly destroyed, even a divine spell is powerless.
Even if it works, it only prolongs her struggle, extending her suffering.
"It would be better to end it swiftly!"
Lette raised the Light Spear in his hand, just about to end Vanessa completely, when he noticed the Holy Light from Vanessa flowing towards the distant Galado.
"Oh?"
Lette halted the Light Spear: "Is this your final choice?"
The light from Vanessa grew ever stronger, yet her flesh and soul rapidly exhausted.
Lette could see at a glance that this was the most powerful curing divine spell of a Divine Officer, also known as a Forbidden Curse—Life’s Praise.
It is a sacrificial method, saving the target at the cost of one’s own soul.
Vanessa poured the Goddess’ Blessing Spell, along with her Life’s Praise, wholly onto Galado.
The brilliant Holy Light enveloped the Chimera Galado, igniting the dying Phoenix Flame within her.
The blazing flame consumed Galado’s massive body, leaving behind only a watermelon-sized dragon egg in the ash.
A faint heartbeat emanated from it, and the dragon egg exuded a dense Life Breath.
All of this signified a new life, no longer an Alchemy Creation.
Vanessa’s body gradually became translucent. She looked at Lette and suddenly smiled.
"You were right, it’s indeed so hard to make someone happy..."
Before the words had finished, Vanessa’s form dissipated, disappearing completely from the spot.
The moment her life force vanished, a silhouette descended from the sky, landing beside Lette.
Master Constant gazed at the place where Vanessa had disappeared, sighing.
"I too bear a great responsibility. As her teacher, I failed to teach her how to be a person..."
"You have so many disciples, and only this one went astray. I think the fault isn’t mainly yours."
Lette reached down and cradled the dragon egg, examining it closely.
"Master."
"Hm?"
"Should we root it out?"
"Ah... this..."
Lette twirled the dragon egg: "When I was in elementary school, there was an old diesel generator at school.
Every time our town experienced a power outage when we thought we’d have school off, this old machine would start up.
Though its power wasn’t high, it provided basic lighting.
I hated it.
But later, I heard it was given by the principal to the town’s only hospital, saving many lives during outages.
Unexpected occurrences..."
Master Constant slightly furrowed his brow, continuously staring at the dragon egg: "I always don’t understand when you talk about your hometown."
"...Let it be."
With that, Lette tossed the dragon egg to Master Constant: "After all... this thing can act as a short-term reserve hidden energy source when the Holy Light Goddess disconnects unexpectedly.
Perhaps, one day, it might come in handy.
Or, it might provoke Dragon Island, which is also quite good!"
"Then why give it to me?"
"You mentioned you didn’t teach your disciple well! Now’s another chance, to teach this egg well.
Vanessa owed so many penalties to the Church Court; let this thing slowly atone."
Lette stared at the place where Vanessa dissipated, frowning.
It’s the first and only time he witnessed the activation of the Goddess’ Blessing Spell within a Holy Daughter.
To be honest, it was quite different from his expectations.
If the same situation were applied to Joanna, he just felt something was off.
While he pondered in confusion, he suddenly sensed a familiar presence.
"Adros, why has he come?"
