Chapter 59: The Great Hustle of the Thirteen Clans (3)
A/N: super long Chapter ahead...
It didn’t even take 15 minutes for the elders and Luis’ trusted subordinates to come.
After a few rounds of apologies and pacifying the frustrated Olyn, they all moved on to settle themselves in their respective seats.
The same seats that Luis ordered the earth power sentinels to make at the last minute.
On the newly repaired stage, there lie three special seats. The one in the center appears to be the most intimidating with its wide and tall backrest and curved armrest. The design is simple just like the other two but at a glance, it is obvious it is meant for the extraordinary presence of today, the moon elf lord.
Luis sat there with his short legs swinging from time to time. His fingers gently caressed the white chick who was comfortably resting on his lap, totally unbothered by the alternate motions from his two swinging legs.
"Seems like you are getting too comfortable in a short time, little birdie?"
The white chick didn’t care enough to chirp.
Luis just rolled his eyes.
He turned to look at the seat on his left and he saw Legland looking gorgeously heroic as always.
Then Luis turned to look to his right where Nicol is looking as poised as always and he thought, clothes don’t make a gentleman. Nicol in his white priest robes enough to bring any bitches on their knees in just a glance of his red fiery eyes.
"Do you feel uncomfortable, my lord? Are you thirsty?" asked Olyn who was standing behind his seat. Luis flashed a smile, attentive as always.
"I am good, Olyn,"
"Do you need a shade, moon elf lord?" says a familiar masculine voice from his right. The sunlight is directly kissing their skin due to lack of foliage but it is still gentle in the touch...
’And besides, that statement came from my greatest DICKStraction. Better not to face him while I am about to deal with business.’
Even now, his heart is beating like crazy from what happened earlier!
"No thank you," Luis answered with his eyes glued to the front, faithful to his will not to be swayed by the evil male god at his side.
The moon elf lord’s gaze swept through the rows of orderly moon elves.
All moon elves are properly seated on stone benches. Meanwhile, the 13 patriarchs of the present clans are seated in special seats around the entire venue.
Seven on his right and six on his left.
None of them dared to make any sound or kneel since their elders must have informed them of his do’s and don’ts.
Even the familiar faces that he met in Hyon Clan are sitting solemnly in their respective seats.
’They are like good kindergartners,’ Luis pouted his lips.
"Let’s start the First-Interclan Conference- Amber Forest Edition," Luis stood up and carelessly placed the sleeping chick on the stone seat. He didn’t care about the angry chirping in the background and he continued to walk to the edge of the stone stage.
"Actually, I am envisioning to meet you all in a much better situation and welcoming you more festively. However, it seems like the strings of fate are hasty enough to drag us into a messy situation to reunite." Luis’ tone was light as a feather. Since this is a conference, he wants the moon elves to actively participate. Hence, he does his best not to be too intimidating.
He wants to appear approachable.
"Although this is an unfortunate accident, I am happy to know that you came here to help me without being asked first and for that, this moon elf lord is thankful to all of you."
Luis then went straight to the point.
"You must have heard the current situation in the Shane Greenwoods. Since that is the reason for the agitation that you all felt the other day. I discovered something that concerns the present situation."
"That is also the reason why I asked your elders and patriarchs to meet with me earlier. I was out to know their opinions and to decide the movement that we will do moving forward." Luis looked at all the 13 patriarchs present.
Honestly, convincing them is easy but it is apparent that some have a conflict with the other and not all are willing to help the other.
Just to be frank, Luis thinks that they are just agreeing to give him some face. That isn’t so bad but Luis wanted to test the waters of the majority and he also wanted to make sure that all of them are aware of what is going on.
Somebody from the seated crowd raised his arm.
"Yes? Do you have a question? Don’t stop yourself if you have questions in mind. This is a conference. Therefore, inquiries that will lead to discussions are highly encouraged." Luis didn’t forget to explain this to the crowd.
"I apologize for interrupting you, my lord. But this has been bugging me, why did the four clans let this happen in their territory?" A courageous young warrior from Gyuri Clan asked, obviously finding fault.
The moon elf lord’s mouth was agape for a moment. ’Huh Oh, why do I smell intrigues here?’
Olyn clicked his tongue in disapproval. How dare this guy interrupt the moon elf lord? This damned moon elf obviously wants to start a heated discussion.
Legland and Xagrien both showed grave expression.
Luis saw that Nicol was about to grill the young male so he signaled to him that it was okay.
Seeing that the moon elf lord is fine with it, the young warrior felt emboldened so he added, "They should be aware of the perils that the root crawlers have, shouldn’t they do something to control the numbers of these pests in the first place?"
"You bastard from Gyuri Clan!" An elder with a hunched back from the Yultin Clan yelled.
Luis almost had a heart attack thinking that the old man may have a cardiac arrest at any moment now due to anger.
The meeting that he conducted with the patriarchs are also his way to gauge the relationship between the clans by observing their own leaders. Luis needs to have at least a basic understanding of their relationship since they need to work together in his initial plan.
The water power Gyuri Clan and the fire power Yultin Clan. This pair is the most obvious... These two clans openly express their hostility to one another. It was obvious in the aggressive words that the patriarchs were shooting at one another during the meeting earlier.
"If there’s someone who should also receive the blame, then that is us." The moon elf lord turned to look at the speaker and his hair almost stood up to its ends. It was Manulus!
’Bro, what the fuck are you doing?’
Luis initially plans to expose this once all of these troubles are gone and their group completely assimilated with these clans. In this way, they are easily accepted.
He looked at Manulus and it was obvious that he was distressed that the elder from the Yultin Clan was being blamed.
’This goody two shoes!’
"We made almost all of those tunnels that the root crawlers are using as a breeding ground." Manulus bravely declared in the despising faces of some clans.
This caused a wave of murmurings among the clans. In an instant, the group became the center of attention once again. This time, it was for the worst reason.
Sharp glares and fingers pointed at them.
The children sought comfort from the adults; they felt uncomfortable seeing the eyes that most moon elves are giving them.
Luis doesn’t need to look at his back but he knows that Xagrien’s eyes must be flashing with electricity because of the violent reaction that his friends are getting.
’Shit!’ he cursed inwardly. ’Don’t you dare start a fight now, Xagrien!’
"You rogues! Then all this harm was because of you! As expected of that trash group of friends," Yulls is one of those who are quick to point their fingers.
This single statement encouraged others to voice out their dissent against the newcomers.
’I absolutely abhor this kind of man,’ Luis silently gritted his teeth.
Luis’ face turned slightly dark after seeing this. He took a deep breath and chose to remain silent while observing each of the moon elves’ reactions.
"Throw them–" Yulls who yelled to fan the flames suddenly stopped when a small wind blade shot towards him. A thin line of blood appeared on his right cheek.
He was about to create a fuss when his eyes met the apathetic eyes of Ali, the patriarch of the Isan Clan.
Luis who was just watching caught this little exchange and it made his right eyebrow arch. ’Oh?’
"My lord, should we kill that male?" The moon elf lord heard his number one servant whisper. While he also find that Yulls guy annoying but ’ What the hell, Olyn?!’
"Do you dare to show your unscrupulous attitude in front of the moon elf lord?!" Legland’s thunderous voice silenced the noisy crowd. Bulging angry veins are seen on his neck!
This is probably the first time that Luis saw Legland this angry.
They all paled after seeing the expressionless face of the moon elf lord.
The crowd waited in bated breath as they watched the bearer moon elf lord’s mouth open.
"The questions, doubts and worries are reasonable. However, I know for a fact that none of these four clans are neglecting their responsibilities. Why should they let their lands be teeming with pests? I trust their instincts to secure their food resources as an intelligent living being." The moon elves that belong to Adriha, Hyon, Portun and Yultin breathed a sigh of relief. The moon elf lord trusts them. Nothing is more comforting than that.
Luis then looked at his new subordinates and smiled especially at the children who were looking at him with their innocent and hopeful eyes.
"On the other hand, the new subordinates that I welcomed and accepted are also innocent." The moon elf lord stressed the words that needed to be stressed.
Gasps from the other moon elves in the crowd are heard. ’Isn’t this the moon elf lord’s way of protecting these rogues?’
Some discreet and cunning minds among the crowd noted this fact for future reference.
"They arrived in the Shane Greenwoods more than 30 days ago. There are probably hundreds of thousands of root crawlers throughout the Shane Greenwoods at this moment." Luis paused while his gaze swept through the crowd.
"Now, if you would ask me if 30 days are enough for the root crawlers to reproduce fast enough to cover the entire forest, then I would say that only an idiot will believe that they can." His gaze then stopped at Manulus whose eyes were wide due to sudden realization.
"Then that means..." Manulus trailed off. While his fist was clenched. ’Is that even possible?’
The earth moon elf looked at Luis with eyes full of expectation.
However, Luis didn’t mean to continue talking. He turned his back to the crowd and signaled his number one servant.
It was the right time to demonstrate the ’unboxing’.
"Olyn, the parcel– I mean the satchel?" Olyn jumped down and he came back with a big cloth sack in his hand.
’Isn’t this too big for a satchel? Did I pick up too much?’ Luis is a bit confused but he just shrugged it off.
He then proceeded to shake the contents out of the sack.
All 50,000-plus moon elves are initially confused about the moon elf lord’s action but it didn’t take long before their exclamation is heard.
"What are those– root crawlers’ heads?!"
’It was perfectly cut in a single stroke. This is a work of a pro,’ Legland who was watching from a closer distance was quick to notice it. His entire body felt an amazing rush of excitement.
’Is this the work of the moon elf lord?’ Legland looked at the busy moon elf lord and vowed that he must have the moon elf lord to train him after all this happens.
Luis, who was oblivious of Legland’s inner thoughts, was immersed in ’unboxing’.
He used the dagger that Xagrien stole from him.
The moon elf lord loves to be productive so his mouth is moving while his hands are doing THE job.
He was excited to lift the vail of the damned scheme that he cracked.
"I was busy crushing the root crawlers when I came across with a peculiar yet vital discovery that might shed light to this phenomenon. Now, I’m– wait, this one doesn’t have it." Luis’ voice raised a few octaves after seeing that the head that he is working on doesn’t have a stone.
"Let me try this one. Just wait a second." He snappily grabbed another one, not minding how grimy the root crawler’s head is. However, it seems like his effort is bound to reap nothing.
"Still nothing?!"
"Wait, the next one should have it," Luis said while his sweat slowly appeared on his back. But still nothing.
This time he didn’t dare to use the dagger and directly crushed the bony head of the root crawlers with his bare hands.
One head, two heads, the moon elves sitting in the crowd watched the moon elf lord’s one hand crushing in cold sweats.
They are nervous seeing the monstrous grip strength of the moon elf lord. ’Is this the payback for their noise earlier? Is this the moon elf lord’s threat?’
"Ha! Finally!" They all sighed in relief after hearing the high pitched voice of the moon elf lord.
Luis manages to find the stone in the twelfth head that he crushed.
Anyone who attended his meeting earlier is not that surprised compared to the others. Luis already showed them the stone that he kept earlier. But still this is the first time that they saw it in broad daylight.
"A mystic beast’s core?" Someone from the crowd asked confusedly.
Luis cleaned the stone using the cloth that Olyn provided. After that, he manipulate the nature’s energy to let the stone float around the venue so the moon elves can observe it.
"If you would look at it closely one will think that this stone is a mystic beast’s core. However, the mana concentration of root crawlers are not thick enough to form a tangible core in their body," he explained to the crowd.
"Right, all that they can do is change the size of their body so their mana should not be that much," Old Kier murmured as he observed the stone. He can somehow see the faint lines on its surface but he thought that it should just be a cut of the stone. But hearing the next words of the moon elf lord made his eyes wide.
"And if you scrutinize this poop colored pebble, you will notice that there is an unfamiliar magic circle carved in it."
All of the moon elves are stupefied this time. Magic circle? They all scrambled to take a peak in it. The only magic circle that they knew was for contracting beast so they are curious to see it.
On the other hand, some thinkers among the crowd manage to catch the hint that Luis was throwing.
’Does this mean that it was done deliberately by someone that uses magic?’
Nicol looked at the direction of the stone. The first time that he heard the literal words of their lord he was equally shocked like these moon elves. The root crawlers were said to come 400 years ago during the time of the great drought. If that is the case then that means that the temple failed to monitor its own territory.
He clenched his fist in agitation. The moon elf lord is right. They need to reform their ways.
"Moon elf lord, may I know the use of this stone?" Ali, the patriarch of the Isan Clan asked.
Luis has been getting weird vibes from this redhead moon elf.
"As of this moment, the use of this stone remains a mystery. All that is known is that it is found in root crawlers that are situated in the middle part of the tunnel." He laid down the facts while looking at the expression of the patriarch but he couldn’t read a thing.
This man is more unreadable than Xagrien so pushed more buttons to see if there’s any changes.
"But my instinct is telling me that it should be something used to control those abominations underground... or it could be more than that."
This time Luis rested his case upon seeing that there was nothing.
A strong gust blew and the open field was suddenly shrouded with strong winds and when they looked up, he saw ten oversized Orioles.
"Rion! Long time no see!" Luis greeted the newcomer with a bright smile.
"I greet the moon elf lord." Rion humbly bowed his head and saluted Luis. His silver eyes were bright as he greeted his lord.
The young and blond sentinel didn’t waste time and went straight to the point.
"I hate to interrupt but I think that this is something that the moon elf lord would like to hear immediately. I am here to give the report about the fumigated tunnel."
Luis took the wooden board where the report was carved. The bearer’s perfect brows raised and a smug smile appeared on his face.
"Oh, it seems like I underestimated the effects of Golden Belladonna."
He then faced the quiet and curious crowd. "Now that we are clear of how grave our situation is now, we need to start our counter attack as soon as possible."
