Chapter 162: To Live And To Exist (1)
Luis may look nonchalant on the outside but deep inside him, he is having a major headache.
’Sucker Touch, huh?’ Luis murmured internally as he fleetingly threw a side eye at the translucent screen that lists the details of his newly acquired skill.
[Sucker Touch- Acquired Skill (Granted by the System)
Description:
Allows the user to absorb and store any kind of energy through physical contact and at the same time discharge it under his control.]
Just looking at the skill given, it’s rather a very useful skill. It could also be an answer to his current problem waiting to be solved.
Luis is of course exhilarated finding out its effects and he is itching to test it immediately.
Only that, he would later regret using it due to the cost he needed to pay every time he would use it.
But it was indeed worth it.
"What did you do to activate the transportation circle?" He heard Xagrien’s gentle voice asking him.
The man stood up and met him halfway. As if his arm was wired to do so, Xagrien’s right arm snaked to his back and his hand comfortably rested on his waist.
This made Luis blush a little. ’This is obviously not the best time to publicly express their affection but damn, my reaction was as natural as breathing,’ he thought.
Since it was his lover and mate who was questioning him, Luis had to play favorites and answered without blinking.
"The principle of activating a magic circle is fairly simple, right? Just pump sufficient mana to its lines and it will work. I happened to have the means to achieve that so I successfully did it and brought me here," Luis’ explanation sounded as if he was just bullshitting but that is indeed the truth.
In fact, it is a mellow-down version since using the Sucker Touch made him feel an absolute hell. His mental strength almost plummeted with just a single use and it even caused him to have a nosebleed.
"I see, I am proud of you, Luis," Xagrien whispered in the last word to his ear.
Luis blushed once again and elbowed the man’s rock-hard core.
Unbeknownst to Luis, Xagrien felt as if a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders upon seeing that Luis came.
His bearer’s presence made a difference.
"How are you?" Luis broke away from Xagrien’s grasp. Xagrien willingly complied and he stood on the side in silence.
Somehow, he could feel that he isn’t the only reason why Luis deals with all the trouble to follow them here.
’He is going to pull off something amazing.’
That is what Xagrien thought as he watched Luis kneel in front of the fading body of Xerxes.
Luis’ supposed action was to touch the ill dragon but he stopped himself knowing that his hand would only touch nothing.
"That little tree spirit asked me a selfish request and that is the second reason why I am here," Luis said after some time.
Xerxes who has been trying so hard to contain his dissipating mana for more time, opened his eyes and saw that the moon elf lord was nearby him.
"Moon Elf Lord," his tired eyes looked profound as he gazed back at the bearer in front of him. He wanted to ask if it was related to him but something was stopping him.
He honestly felt guilty that he will be leaving his innocent spirit friend soon. For years, they’ve been each other’s company so their bond is quite strong.
Xerxes lowered his head. Uncomfortable that someone whom he isn’t familiar with would see his sadness.
Luis more or less knew what was going on in Xerxes’ head so he connotatively made a step back by passively ignoring it.
"Would you like to stay?"
To Xerxes’ surprise, he heard the Moon Elf Lord ask him this question.
"What do you mean?"
Xerxes’ cold blue eyes fixated on the black-haired bearer in front of him. Out of all the lords that he had met so far, he must admit that the Moon Elf Lord has the beauty that bested all the lords from different races.
’But he is also the most unkempt,’ the Blizzard Dragon honestly noted as he noticed the ripped oversized shirt covering Luis’ body.
However, in the dying dragon’s opinion, this strangely gives off a feeling that the Moon Elf Lord is within their reach even though in reality he is never like that.
Xerxes’ eyes passed over the standing young man behind the bearer.
Although just a little, he could understand why Xagrien chose the Moon Elf Lord.
"Do you not want to die?" Luis’ eyes accidentally strayed towards the mountain like the body of a deceased dragon, making him miss Xerxes’s shock.
He was busy studying the blue scales that looked black due to the loss of mana. There’s a weird feeling around it that indicates that it became a subject of dark magic arts.
He worded his question poorly.
Xerxes is already dead. There’s nothing he could do about it.
Therefore, he corrected the words he used in his question.
"I mean, do you want to avoid vanishing and stay in this place, with that cheeky little python?"
Xerxes looked at Luis with wide eyes. What kind of act this Moon Elf Lord is pulling? Is he playing god?
"Moon Elf Lord. I don’t think I can fully understand your intention of asking that," Xerxes responded as he exhaled a heavy sigh. "As you can see, nature has finally taken its course and my body is about to vanish."
"This is a natural phenomenon for dragons as their body reaches 500 years. As the moon elves’ body will become nature’s energy as it decays over time, the dragons’ corpses will return to mana once their body has aged five centuries."
Although looking and sounding weak, Xerxes’ words carry an air of absolute seriousness.
"I may be a newly born Moon Elf Lord but pretty much know about that specific trait of dragon race," Luis’ answer was clear. It is natural to be aware of that matter since that information is available in his Inheritance. Like, how many times did dragons and Moon elves clashed? It’s too many to even keep track.
Xerxes was rendered silent, he was just looking at the their race’s mortal enemy.
’What are you thinking, moon elf lord?’ his unspoken question remained inside his head.
Luis’ gaze remained to look unperturbed at the skepticism of the weakened Blizzard Dragon in front of him.
He knows that if he gives off even a hint that he is unconfident, then he will be instantly turn down without any second thoughts.
And it works since Xerxes felt waves in his belief as their conversation continues.
"I took the liberty to ask that question since I’ve been asked by a poor soul to help you not to disappear."
’That ignorant spirit of Heart of the Forest!’
Xerxes wanted to plant his face on his palm. However, he is too weak to do so. Just speaking is already a luxury.
Let a few moments pass, even talking is no longer possible at that time.
"If that is what my friend asked you to do, then forget that, Moon Elf Lord. We both know that it is impossible. Besides, even if a necromancer tried to resurrect me, it will only end in failure since the rest of my soul is already destroyed as I used that as a sacrifice to imbue the remaining fragment of my soul on my dead body." Xerxes stated. Uncertain if he should be angry or not at his concerned friend.
He is bound to disappear. That’s it.
Corpse Soul Transference is a highly complex and dangerous dark magic used by powerful dragons that requires one to use the majority of their soul as ember to weld the remaining fragment of the soul on their dead body for them to continue to exist in the world.
It has the advantage of the fact that a dragon’s body takes a long time to disintegrate once they die an unnatural death.
However, not many dragons use this dark magic art as it means they will be destroying their soul and that is considered a taboo.
"I am in a hopeless state from the very beginning."
Xerxes projected an ironic confidence as he stared back at Luis. However, beneath this steady current was a disturbed water that no one could see as of this moment.
He willingly brought it on himself but he didn’t feel any regrets committing the forbidden since he did it out of a sincere promise.
But of course, sadness is natural to be felt.
After all, once this situation passes, his existence will cease and only his story of betrayal and the items he kept in this lair will prove that a certain Blizzard Dragon once lived in this world.
Luis, on the other hand, silently watched the expression of the handsome gentleman in front of him. From the eyes to the smile, everything about Xerxes screams one thing.
He already resigned himself to fate.
Such decisiveness made the Moon Elf Lord think twice if he should carry on with the little spirit’s request.
Remembering the desperate voice of the spirit, the moon elf lord let out a sigh.
Right, he accepted the responsibility and it’s expected for a decent human being like him to see through its end.
But of course, Luis decided to use the soft approach when trying to convince others who has firm grasp on themselves
Luis started spitting out questions to appeal on the emotions of this adult dragon.
"You’re not going to look for a way to amend your condition? Are you sure you are happy to settle on that tragic end?"
"What is the use of making desperate efforts?" Xerxes sarcastically snickered as his fading body laid on the ground.
"The moment I decided to use dark magic arts, my tragic end is already engraved on hard stone."
"What if I say that I could change your destiny? With my help, you will not disappear and will continue staying here or move around if you want."
Xerxes wanted to question his hearing because he simply cannot wrap his head around the fact that this newly-born Moon Elf Lord will declare a feat that not even a veteran lord can.
That claim is obviously far fetched but why does he look confident that he can pull it off?
’I might be facing the most eccentric lord, right now. He is insane.’
Out of all the lords he met, this Moon Elf Lord has the most loose screw in the head. And it’s crazy how he sees himself getting somewhat convinced by the bright dark green eyes of the bearer in front of him.
"Don’t tell me you don’t have any reason to continue existing?"
