Chapter 669: Side Story 3. Stellar Blossom - 4
In an empty bathroom, Han Joon stared at his reflection in the mirror. Or at least he tried,
For the last forty-six seconds, he hadn’t been able to see anything. Not that his view went black; rather, everything went white as if he was flooded with a blinding light. Snow blindness. Yeah--it was like that.
"Haa..." he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Snow blindness would go away after a while, so this must be too.
"Joon?"
Slowly, Han Joon opened his eyes when he heard his darling’s voice. This time, he could see the void in his eyes, and the stern expression he always wore on the outside, to the point that sometimes, he had no idea which one was truly him.
But when he heard his darling’s approaching footsteps, a smile came to his eyes and lips, and his face softened just like that. Just like always, only for him. Only and because of him, his lovely darling.
He turned around and walked out of the bedroom. See? The world looked clearer the moment his darling entered his vision. He could no longer think about that momentary blindness if his mind was full of this lovely specimen turning around the corner.
"Yes, darling?"
"Oh, there you are," Radia stopped and let his husband walk toward him instead. He tilted his head toward the front door and smirked. "Can you hear your little brother shouting out there?"
"That’s why I’m hiding," Han Joon shrugged, prompting a laugh to escape Radia’s lips--which he kissed lovingly the moment he arrived in front of the summoner. "Let’s go."
Time had been rolling splendidly, and all of their friend group had gotten married. They even had their own place to live, away from each other, and yet...for some reason, they still gathered in Radia’s mansion to play.
"Hyung!" Han Shin, who still looked like a young adult despite being a few months away from being thirty, still hugged his older brother like a child.
Han Joon sighed and flicked his brother’s forehead. "You’re about to be a father, be more dignified."
"Do I stop being your dongsaeng if I have a kid?" Han Shin tilted his head.
"Smartass."
"Hehe..."
Han Joon rolled his eyes, but gave a pat to the healer nonetheless before welcoming the other guests--his brother’s wife and best friends. Naturally, his twin godsons too, who greeted him happily in their own way.
"N’kel!" Asa, who started to speak before his twin, loved to show off his vocabulary to anyone, waving his tiny hand from Bassena’s hold.
But as always, the one with action first talk later got to Joon first. "Kel!" Kar wobbled toward his favorite uncle, and Han Joon picked him up with a chuckle.
"You’re still this energetic in this summer heat?"
Kar laid his chubby cheek on Joon’s shoulder. "A’kel...co’d...good..."
"You like it because my skin is cooling you?" Han Joon laughed and reached out so his brother’s pregnant wife could hold his hand.
While Han Joon led Reina and Zein inside, Radia looked at the other two. "You people know you live in a place with a sea and the lake in your front yard, don’t you?"
"Yeah, but those are too big for the kids," Bassena shrugged, flicking his fingers so his children of darkness could bring everyone’s luggage inside the mansion.
"Then build a pool," Radia rolled his eyes.
Han Shin scoffed. "Why would we do that when there’s a sea and a lake in our yard?"
"You punk!"
Han Shin laughed and ran away into the mansion, catching up with his brother and pregnant wife after kidnapping a giggling Asa from Bassena as a shield. The little gremlin was always happy being put into speed, so Bassena let him.
Could be a little training for the real thing five months later.
"He could just come whenever he wanted; why the need to make a reason for every visit?" Radia shook his head exasperatedly.
"Because he never changed," Bassena scoffed. "But well...it’s also to limit himself," he added with a chuckle. "He’d want to visit all the time without that limitation, but he doesn’t want to disturb you two."
Radia smiled, watching the cheerful back of the people he could easily call friends rather than colleagues. "I know that."
"Then you also know he vented that by disturbing me instead?" Bassena grumbled.
Radia patted the platinum hair while laughing. Amongst everyone, Bassena looked like he needed a vacation the most. People would think he was a corporate slave who had never seen a day off in his life from that stubble and dark circles.
"I had no idea how you did it all this time," Bassena groaned. He had thought being a Guildmaster wouldn’t be that different from being its deputy.
But oh--he knew nothing.
He thought he was quite good at desk work before, but he had no idea the stuff he used to do was not even a quarter of what a Guildmaster had to face. Not to mention, the Far East District was a new territory bordering the sea. The Trinity branch in Lucre, naturally, carried the responsibility to clear the sea dungeon.
Everything was new; everything needed new policies, new plans, and new technologies, and Bassena had to learn about all of those while making sure the new branch stayed afloat.
Oh; did he mention that the guild became a hub of communication between the world and the Guardian Tree because of his husband? Yeah...
"Then just rest today," Radia patted the poor man’s back. He did feel a second of guilt for whipping Bassena hard during that period--but just a second. "Don’t bother to cook or anything this time. Those brothers will play with your sons."
"Ugh--yeah..."
As if proving the summoner’s words, Han Shin had quickly changed and jumped into Radia’s pool while holding Asa above his head. "Yahooo!"
"Kyaa!"
SPLASH!
The water sprayed high from the force, signaling the start of their small pool party--although the ones in the water were only the two most high-spirited people in the bunch. Radia and Zein watched the pool while lounging on a pool chair, shaded with a canopy over their head. Meanwhile, Reina was yelling at her husband.
"Hey, be careful! You have a mini Zein there!"
"Uwaa! Kyaaah! Aca! Aik!"
Splash! Splash!
The mini Zein with amber eyes, however, energetically splashed water around with all his might, moving his limbs and spraying water everywhere.
"See? Asa likes it!" Han Shin argued and carried the happily screaming 20-month-old to the water slide.
Of course, there would be a water slide. Just for the duration of their visit, Radia had turned the pool in his mansion into a waterpark; installing water slides and various toys, several swimming tubes the twins could choose, and canopies above the pool chairs to shield them from the heat.
And while the slides and the toys were definitely made for kids, there was an adult who enthusiastically tried on them all with an excuse of playing with his nephew.
"Haa...I will have two babies, won’t I?" Reina sighed in resignation.
"What? You just realize it now?" Radia raised his brow.
She laughed while raising her wrist and continued to take pictures of her playful manchild in the pool with a real baby. Of course, she knew that already--Shin barely changed in that regard since they knew each other, and she always thought that was cute.
"But looking at it like this, Asa’s personality is just like Shin," she commented with a chuckle, looking at the two playing together like best friends already--or rather, like always.
She wondered if their daughter would be that energetic too--forgetting the fact that she was just that energetic when she wasn’t pregnant--and giggled at the thought.
"Our nanny said he was just like little Sena," Zein watched them play with a smile. There was no record of that time except for the aging Ayya’s stories, so seeing Asa was like seeing a live recording of Bassena’s forgotten childhood--she said. Zein smirked at the thought that little young master Sena was just like Han Shin. "I guess there’s a reason they can be friends in the first place."
"So that’s why!" Reina clapped her hands and laughed hysterically, as if she had just found an answer of the century. "On the other hand, Kar is very calm as usual."
She shifted her gaze to a place below another canopy, near a neatly lined up swimming tube and a large box of untouched beach sand. Instead of playing with the sand or the water, Kar was lounging on Han Joon’s chest, reading a storybook with the esper.
"And loving Uncle Joon as usual," Reina laughed in amusement.
Kar had always been attached to Han Joon for some reason. Perhaps because the man exuded a calm and quiet aura that the baby liked. The older twin did prefer being put to sleep by Zein than Bassena. Jokingly, they said it was because Bassena also loved Joon like that, and would follow Joon everywhere in the past like a little follower.
At any rate, it was fascinating that the twins matched both Han brothers very well.
"It’s cool laying on his chest," Radia sighed as he leaned against the backrest. "I’m envious."
Reina raised her brow. "You’re envious of a baby?"
"Yes," the summoner smirked. "That’s why we’ll never have a child between us."
Biologically, it was impossible between them. These days, however, people could either adopt a child or opt for surrogacy. Radia and Joon, however, never wanted to do either one of those. It was enough for them to be together, for the rest of their life, and they didn’t want anyone to wedge themselves between them.
"Good call," Reina nodded in agreement. She also didn’t like the thought of someone who could be jealous of a baby having a baby on their own. "But how’s that work with you being the future patriarch and all?"
"The Old Houses are always strict with bloodline," Radia said. "Even if I adopted a child, they will never inherit the House."
"So?"
"But it’s not like it has to be my child," the summoner shrugged. "As long as they have the red blood of the Mallarc, they could be the heir."
Reina pointed at her head and grinned. "Literally red, huh?"
"I have my nieces and nephews--or their kids," Radia smiled. Besides...having a child just to be used as an heir felt indigenous. It was no different to what Joon’s father did to his children. "Anyway, I just want to live a long life with my dear husband."
"Good choice! We all should!" Reina raised the glass with a colorful liquid inside. "Let’s cheer to that!"
"Wait--what’s that?!" a splashing sound could be heard as Han Shin hurried to the edge of the pool with Asa in one hand while raising his other hand. "No alcohol! No carbonation! No artificial sugar!"
"Tsk--you only sharp at a time like this."
