Chapter 634: Side Story 1. The Twilight Zone - 16

The morning of the thirteenth came calmly. The sky was beautiful; the clouds were cotton white and just enough to decorate the blue canvas. The lake was sparkling under the sunlight, clear and reflecting the expanse of blue and white above.

The trees, under the excellent grooming of Senan the hidden gardener, were lush green and picturesque, hugging the lake and the estate like a neat blanket. All kinds of flowers bloomed around the white house with a blue roof, filling the neatly arranged beds and flanking the walkway leading to the backyard.

The backyard itself was a spread of green grass--at least usually. This time, long tables covered in white clothes were arranged in the section closer to the house, while flower-adorned white chairs were arranged around round tables in the section closer to the lake.

And leading to the lake itself was a white dock flanked by wooden railings. Climbing roses had made their home along the railings, and small bouquets had been tied up on some sections to give some additional spark.

It was a beautiful venue in a beautiful location. The sky, the lake, and the estate looked ethereal.

At least on the outside.

Inside the white house, it was pandemonium.

The basement level and the first floor were filled with people fleeting around. Someone always had to do something or carry some stuff, sometimes while chewing food and drinking water. Even the children were behaving themselves, helping out simply by staying still.

In the midst of the lower floors’ hell, someone was flung out of his room along with his luggage, so he had no choice but to move to another room on the first floor.

"Wow...I can’t believe I got kicked out of my bedroom," Bassena tilted his head and sighed in exasperation, glancing up as if he could see past the ceiling.

Well...technically, he could send his children of darkness inside, but Reina would be sending him death glares in that case.

"It’s more thrilling that way," Radia, who was there before his parents and grandmother, commented with a chuckle. For some reason, he already had a glass of champagne in his hand.

Bassena clicked his tongue. "How do you know? You come to the registry table together!"

Radia just laughed and shrugged. Han Joon leaned down and asked the summoner teasingly.

"Hmm...should we redo it?"

"No," Radia rejected immediately. "The honeymoon was thrilling enough for me."

"Oh, right!" Han Shin snapped his fingers and pointed them at Bassena. "What about yours?"

The three of them turned toward the groom, who had finished changing into a suit. Even Reina’s staff who was in charge of styling his hair took a peak at Bassena.

"Uhh..." there was a complicated expression on the esper’s face. "I can’t exactly do anything...extreme."

Han Shin snorted. "Since when did you have to do extreme stuff on a honeymoon?"

"Since ’thrill’," Bassena rolled his eyes. "Anyway, we’re going to the Far East."

"...to work?"

They looked at Bassena skeptically, knowing the two’s penchant to drown themselves in business. For all they knew, there was only work waiting inside an underdeveloped area like the Far East district.

"To visit the Guardian Tree and have fun with the Sea Serpent," Bassena shrugged.

"Oh, yeah--that’s something only you two can do!" Han Shin clapped his hands. No one else was allowed to enter the area around the Guardian Tree, and the Sea Serpent did not listen to anyone.

And that actually sounded fun, tsk.

"Only Zein--but I’m a plus-one," Bassena chuckled. "We’re also going to check on the house’s progress."

"How very productive," Radia said sarcastically. No matter what, nothing exactly screamed ’honeymoon’ so far.

"Well, they were already producing something," Han Joon, on the other hand, smirked mischievously.

"Hey!"

The sound of Bassena’s flusters shout and the others’ laughter could be heard even from the master bedroom where Zein was.

"What are those men doing?"

"Boy’s talk? I don’t know."

Reina made a curious remark with her staff while making a last check on Zein’s outfit. It wasn’t a complicated one or anything, but she had to make sure no threads were sticking out and no blemish accidentally smeared anywhere. Just as Reina declared that everything was properly ready, someone knocked on the door and opened it slightly.

"Umm...Zein?" a middle-aged woman peeked inside the room and gasped when she caught the sight of Zein. "Oh!"

Zein smiled and nodded, beckoning his mother’s best friends to get inside. "Come in."

"O-oh, can we?"

"As long as you’re not the groom," Reina winked and opened the door slightly wider--but not wide enough for anyone to peek inside and see Zein.

The two retired guides laughed softly and carefully entered the room, almost tip-toeing as if they were sneaking around. They stopped in front of the guide and clutched their chest, looking at the man who was already older than Lucia for a while now.

And he was so, so beautiful. He was already beautiful in just his usual black attire, but he was positively sparkling at that moment.

Perhaps it was the white outfit he rarely wore. A dress shirt and a silk vest with a tail going all the way to the floor like a long sleeveless coat.

Perhaps it was the sunlight pouring from the window, causing the hidden nano gems that Reina sewn along the tails to reflect it in a light blue glow and making it feel as if the guide’s outfit was made of water.

Or perhaps...because that beautiful face was radiating joy. An easy smile and a pair of clear, calm blue eyes--and yet, everyone could tell that Zein was content. At ease. Happy.

"Can I...can I hug you?" Ria asked nervously.

Zein raised his brows and, smiling softly, stepped forward to hug the aged guide. He spread his other arm toward Sherri, who took it with rare tears dripping from her eyes. It was usually Ria who cried easily, but on that day, even the strong-minded guide couldn’t help it.

Afraid of damaging the beautiful outfit, Ria and Sherri pulled back after a few seconds. "You look so beautiful," Ria let out a sigh of awe as she looked at Zein again.

"Thank you."

Ria took a tissue that Reina offered and dabbed her wet cheeks. "I’ve...always regretted that we couldn’t be there at your mother’s wedding, but..."

"At least, we can be at yours," Sherri smiled. There was a slight bitterness from regret and leftover guilt, but the happiness was greater.

Zein turned his head toward the window. They could see the lake from there, but also a small field of blue hibiscus. "She will be watching it too," he said with a smile. "They will be."

Despite her effort to dry her cheeks, Ria cried again, and Sherri scolded her for making a happy day gloomy even though her eyes were also red and blurry.

But it wasn’t just them.

"Oh, no!" Reina looked up and fanned her eyes with he hands. "I’m going to cry before the ceremony! My makeup!"

Thanks to that, the tears turned into laughter, and their makeup could be saved. In the middle of this ’chaos’, however, one person remained focused on something and ignored the rest of the room.

"A bit more like this...and that...oh--" Elena, who was crouching by herself on the corner, turned her head and called the designer. "Sister Rei, do you have a blue ribbon?"

Reina tilted her head. "I think so...wait a bit," she immediately rummaged through her dimensional bag to find one.

Zein tilted his head and approached the girl; his coat rippled beautifully behind him, sweeping the floor. "I’ve been meaning to ask, but what have you been doing since earlier?"

"Making your bouquet!" Elena raised her arms high.

"Huh?"

Zein blinked at the cluster of flowers that were neatly arranged inside the girl’s hands, wrapped with a thin satin cloth around the stalks. A number of unchosen stalks were spread on top of several laid-out newspapers in front of the teenager, along with a scissor and cut stalks. The arrangement was almost finished; the only step left was--

"Here we go!" Reina pulled out a slightly wide ribbon in deep blue, slightly deeper than the color of Zein’s eyes.

Hmm...that was--

"Oh, that’s perfect!" Elena nodded eagerly. "Hurry, hurry--tie it here!"

While Reina and Elena finished the bouquet, Zein finally recalled the color of Bassena’s suit; a frock coat that was white on top and blue on the bottom. The blue was the deepest on the bottom, and like a fire, climbing up to eat the garment, getting slightly lighter as it met the white around the chest. Zein hadn’t seen it worn yet, but he thought it would look good on Bassena’s dark skin and matched well with the platinum hair.

Thinking about those pair of ambers blazing on top of the calm and deep color, Zein had to swallow dryly and took a deep breath.

"It’s done!" Elena raised the bouquet as if it were a trophy. "I made it with the flowers in the garden! Uncle Senan said I can choose whichever I want."

She was just adopting everyone into her family, huh? Zein chuckled as the girl presented the bouquet to him.

She asked shyly. "Do you like it?"

Zein looked at the flowers in his hand. Honestly, he had no eyes to discern whether something like this was good or not. Personally, he prefers the flowers to stay attached to the soil, fresh and alive. But...

The bouquet was made of mainly white flowers, with green leaves and ferns to freshen the look. But there was something striking in the middle--something that screamed ’special’.

"Yes," brushing the blue hibiscus in the middle, Zein smiled softly. "Thank you, Elena."
