Chapter 632: Side Story 1. The Twilight Zone - 14
"Setnath?"
Reina looked up from the floor where he was stitching the hem of Zein’s trousers. It wasn’t just her though--her staff also looked up from the fabrics and catalogs in their hands.
"You...suggested a deity’s name as the new district’s main city?"
"Yeah," Zein replied nonchalantly.
"...how?"
The main cities in the numbered area, such as Althrea and Rexon, were mostly named after the past hero who saved the area. The new district, however, was a little bit tricky. If they wanted to use the name of the hero who liberated the place, there was a sizable list to pick from.
Should they use Radia’s name as the Supreme Commander? The summoner wasn’t that shameless.
In that case, what about Bassena, who destroyed the Fallen Star’s core, or Zein, who got rid of the miasma? Neither of them was willing to do that.
On the other hand, no one else in that operation would ever want to plaster their name as a city when the sponsor and commanders didn’t want to when there was no way their contributions were bigger than those three.
And so, Zhou Caishen the Wise suggested that the decision of the name should be given to those three instead of using their name or some random names that had nothing to do with the liberation. Radia ceded the chance to the couple, but Bassena couldn’t be bothered to think of a name when he was still mulling over what to give his sons.
"And so, you ended up as the decision maker?"
Zein let out a heavy sigh. "I was just trying to go through the meeting without doing anything."
"...you were sleeping, weren’t you?" Reina grinned.
Zein smirked. "Anyway, Radia told me it’d be better than letting the others do it."
"Yeah," Reina laughed. "They’d try to sneak in their ancestor’s name or something, and everyone would one the name they presented to be picked. It’s always good to leave the decision to just one person."
"That’s why I accept it," Zein shrugged. He just wanted the meeting to be over quickly.
"I see, I see--can you raise your arm a little bit?" Reina nodded and moved to Zein’s sleeve. "Why Setnath, though?"
Zein tilted his head up. "I mean...we’ve been calling the towers and temples with the patron deity’s name, right?"
"Right. So?"
"Setnath is technically the patron deity of the Tree who bears the beacon of the Far East," Zein said. After all, it used the power of Setnath inside of Zein the way other patron deity infused their power into the fragment. "But calling it the Tree of Setnath is weird, and people were already calling it the Tree of Twelve Guardians."
"Ah, so you told them to use Setnath’s name as the main city instead?" Reina snapped her fingers and Zein nodded.
The others were wary at first, since they were using a deity’s name. But Ludya spoke about how unfair it was for Setnath’s name to be buried when it was his fragments that were used as the base for Towers and Temples.
"We decided to send inquiries to other Towers and Temples if we could use the name, but I don’t think any of the patrons would mind," Zein shrugged. They should know the process of the Tree anyway, and Frejya would definitely rally for approval. "It’s only a matter of time. For now, we have decided to tentatively call the main city that. The announcement will probably made soon."
"I khee, I khee..." Reina nodded with pressed lips full of needles.
Zein grimaced at the terrifying sight and decided to look out of the window instead. The springs had left them, and the temperature had started to move from warm to slightly hot.
June had come, and it was a month away from his wedding.
Reina glanced at Zein and spoke again after removing the needles from her mouth. "A lot of people are getting married in June, do you know that?"
"No, but why?"
"I heard there’s a patron deity in the Western Republic whose other name was ’Juno’ and she was known as a protector of marriage--or something like that," Reina chuckled, before adding with a smirk. "Even though it’s a bad month for outdoor weddings."
Was it because of the rainy season? Zein raised his brow and glanced at the designer. "My wedding is also outdoor, you know?"
Reina gasped. "Oh, no!"
For a second, anyway.
"Your rich fiance is putting a lot of weather-controlling devices around the estate anyway," she grinned.
Zein chuckled. Yeah, there was no way Bassena would take any risk of making the day anything less than perfect. Well, probably not perfect, but at least ’proper’.
"He said money is earned to be spent," Zein smirked. "But what about you?" he asked the girl. "Why are you fitting my wedding suit when you have your own wedding coming up?"
"Eyy, what coming up? It’s still in December," Reina waved her hand. "Besides, my wedding dress had been made since a long time ago--I just need to do some finishing touch."
Zein raised his brow, prompting the girl to purse her lips and add in a quiet grumble.
"I didn’t grow much after graduating..."
Zein bit the inside of his cheek, trying not to laugh. Fortunately, the doorbell was ringing at that time, and Han Shin’s cheerful voice could be heard from the intercom. [Noona! Zein! We’re here!]
Reina and her staff gasped. "Wait, wait--you can’t come in yet!"
For the next five minutes, Zein watched in amusement as Reina and her staff ran around hiding all of the fabrics and fitted clothes, returning the living room to its usual state. Only then did they let Han Shin and Bassena come, who grumbled about having to wait without doing anything for five minutes.
Well, who knew preparing for the wedding could be this fun?
* * *
It was only fun for Zein, however, who didn’t have to do anything but do the fitting for the clothes and approve the guest list.
The others had to do the heavy lifting, which was not very fun, but they were also driven by the will of not letting Zein do anything hard. They just came to the guide with the result without letting him know anything about the chaos in the middle.
Thankfully, Zein had minimum knowledge about weddings. The little that he knew came from the red-zone wedding--which basically just people coming for a free meal--and Abel’s--which he only enjoyed as a guest--as well as Ron’s--which was celebrated with booze and a fight.
And so, everyone managed to perfectly hide the process from Zein--even his fiance, who was also busy taking care of Zein himself. The pregnancy had reached its middle stage, and while Zein’s morning sickness had subsided a lot, his craving got worse. Between building their house, preparing for the wedding, and fulfilling Zein’s adventurous craving, Bassena was very busy.
But all the exhaustion Bassena felt would instantly vanish when he touched the guide’s belly, who had lost all of his abs. It wasn’t showing yet, and Doctor Nam said it wouldn’t show much even in the third trimester, but they definitely saw the changes in Zein’s body.
"Why are you keep doing that?" Zein chuckled at how the esper always nuzzled his stomach whenever they had time to relax on the couch. It was funny to see that handsome face turned all silly.
"Maybe they’ll start moving if I do this?" Bassena shrugged, grinning while kissing the guide’s stomach.
"Pfft--that would be nice if it’s tr..ue?"
"!"
Zein and Bassena stiffened. There was definitely something earlier, just a split second. The esper immediately grabbed Zein’s waist and talked to the belly.
"Wait, wait--that’s a kick, right?" he widened his eyes. "That’s definitely a kick, right?"
"Uhh...I don’t know?" Zein tilted his head. It had never happened before, and for all he knew, it could be just some bowel movement.
Gods knew how chaotic his stomach had been during the pregnancy.
"Hey, hey--babies! Twins! Can you do that again?" Bassena rubbed the shirt above the belly. "Pretty please? Dad will give you lots of toys in the future, okay? Promise!"
Zein didn’t think that would be good parenting, but it was cute, so he forgave the esper for now. More importantly...
"Do you think they’ll just do it if you ask like tha--oh!"
Zein looked down. This time, it was strong. Strong enough for him to feel it for sure, and it happened for at least two seconds. About two--no, four times? Was it because there were two of them?
"Oh!" Bassena looked up; widened eyes sparkling, excitement spreading all over his face. "Oh!"
Zein raised his brow before chuckling. "That’s all you can say?"
"T-t-that’s a kick, right? That’s definitely a kick, right?" he looked down at the belly in amazement, like a child looking at his first birthday cake. "They really did it! Good boys! What good boys!"
Zein let out a crips laugh. Whether it was the unborn boys inside his womb or their father, all of them were cute. His own collection of cuties. Stroking the excited esper’s head, Zein leaned back on the couch and smiled blissfully.
Ah...he couldn’t wait. He really couldn’t wait.
But first--they had a wedding to attend.
