Chapter 536: Chapter 529. No party in the Deathzone
On one peaceful dinner around the campfire in the main base, Han Shin received a notification from his commlink; a personal message from the Guildmaster. Curiously, he opened the message with an attached picture on it, and spewed the water he was drinking.
"Eww!" Senia, who was unfortunately sat across from the healer, shrieked and jumped off her chair. "What the hell, Shin?!"
But the healer ignored her--or rather, he couldn’t process anything but the attached picture and the simple message. He blinked rapidly, shaking his head, and even sent a bout of mental healing to his mind in case he was under some spell.
But no; the message and the picture did not change.
"What is it?" Gus asked curiously. Even Senia, who was just stomping her feet in annoyance, couldn’t help but look at the healer inquisitively.
Instead of answering Gus, however, Han Shin grabbed Zein’s hand and shoved the message in front of the guide’s face. Zein raised his brow and read the short message, scrutinizing the picture, and arched his brow even more.
Naturally, this reaction piqued the other’s interest even more, including Zhan who rarely cared about secret stuff, and Ron who was on his monthly visit to the main base.
"Huh..." Zein smirked. "At last, huh?"
"What is it?" Bassena appeared behind the guide and placed a trayful of food on the table while reading the message. He whistled. "A wedding?"
Everyone blinked. "What wedding?"
"No, it seems to be a registry marriage. There’s no wedding party or anything," Zein flicked the hovering screen toward the curious onlooker.
The members of Anzus plus Ron--as well as Senan and Cohen, gathered together to look at the hovering screen. They had heard about a ’wedding’, but who--oh...
Kei coughed out her morning coffee, finally understanding Han Shin’s reaction earlier. "This is...Guildmaster? And..."
She turned to look at the healer, who was still staring into the air dumbfoundedly. The message was a simple ’just married’ with a picture of a marriage registry with the Guildmaster’s name and someone who was between familiar and forgotten due to his lack of appearance for the past three years.
"Huh? So the one who got married is the Guildmaster?" Senia tilted her head. Why the fuss for someone in his thirties getting married? She narrowed her eyes to look at the marriage register and read the information that wasn’t blurred. "But who is his partner? It sounds familiar...Han--" she turned toward Han Shin then--who was still out of it. "Huh?"
"You don’t know him? It’s Mobius’s former captain," Gus told the girl.
Senia tilted her head to try and remember, since she never really cared about other people before. It didn’t take her long to remember the person, however. "Oh! The handsome one!" she snapped her fingers.
"And Shin’s older brother," Zhan pointed at the healer.
"Huuuh??"
Senia’s brows arched high, because she couldn’t see any resemblance between the two! Oh...perhaps their eyes? Still, she was surprised.
But if Senia, with her shallow knowledge about their history, was surprised, the others were even more so.
"Indeed, it’s a huh," Kei chuckled as she wiped the coffee she spilled on the table earlier. "I always thought they had a bad relationship. Was it a ruse?"
"Not really," Zein pulled the dinner tray Bassena brought earlier, smirking. "Let’s just say it’s a very long lover’s spat."
"Huh..."
Curiously, Senia pointed at Han Shin. "So...why is he like that?"
"Yeah, why are you like that, Shin?" Bassena knocked the healer’s temple lightly. "Shouldn’t you be happy? You’re officially Radia’s brother-in-law now."
"Oh, should we send him congratulations or some--"
"Who cares about congratulations?!" Han Shin abruptly stood up and slammed the table. They looked at him in surprise, wondering if he actually did not approve of the marriage. "Hyung...hyung is out of the prison and he didn’t tell me?!"
"Ah..."
Finally, they understood.
"Well, he’s telling you now," Gus pointed at the screen as a blinking notification of a new message came up--from Hyung this time.
"Gimme!" Han Shin pulled the screen back to him, opening it swiftly. "Let’s see--Igot out of prison today, and we go to the registry office first thing--the hell?"
Zein chuckled. "So impatient."
"Well, they have been waiting for...what? Fourteen years?" Bassena shrugged.
Ron raised his brow and smiled behind his cup. "Oh, a friend."
Han Shin raised his hand as he continued to read the message. "Wait--I’ll see you right after I get back from our honeymoon--gasp!"
Senia flinched at the healer’s sudden gasp. "What?"
"He’s coming here!" Han Shin slammed the table again; eyes bright and lips stretched wide. "Hyung is coming here!!"
They watched amusedly as the healer raised his arms and started to dance around as if he just won the lottery. Senia’s brow arched in confusion. "What’s wrong with him?"
"Brother complex," Bassena replied nonchalantly.
"I see..."
They returned to their seats while laughing at the healer’s antics. But, well...it was understandable that someone would be happy when their wrongfully imprisoned brother was finally being freed. Not to mention, the ex-soldier was Han Shin’s only family member.
Although the marriage meant Han Shin now had new family members other than his one and only brother.
"But...I can’t lie--I was surprised," Kei said. "Guildmaster didn’t look like someone who’ll get married. If anything...I thought he’d get married for business."
Which seemed to happen to most Old Houses and conglomerate families. Not that there was no case of marriage by love, but it was quite rare.
"House Mallarc is pretty lax," Bassena shrugged.
"But since it’s the wedding of the future patriarch, there should be parties, right?" Zhan asked excitedly.
"No, I told you if there’s something like that, he’ll give Shin an invitation, not the picture of a marriage register," Zein shook his head.
"Well...maybe they’ll do it later? After all, the registry itself seems abrupt..."
"No," Bassena replied in a firm tone. "Do you think he’d held a wedding reception in the middle of this operation? While we’re toiling hard here?"
"Oh..."
Whether it was done out of conscience or to keep an image in front of the public, Radia wouldn’t show any kind of celebration. It also seemed like they really just went strolling into the registry office the moment Joon stepped out of the prison--no engagement, no nothing--and went straight to honeymoon.
Very swift and so like Radia. And with Han Joon’s personality, they probably wouldn’t even make any announcement to the public, despite Radia’s status in society.
As he thought about this, a notification sound came from his commlink. "Ah, it’s mine this time," Bassena opened the message from Radia with a smirk of anticipation. "Hmm? Pfft--I’ll be unavailable for the next three days, so I’ll give you the highest authority for now. If you need emergency effort--" he paused and looked at Zein. "--tell Zein to call my grandmother."
"Noted," the guide--or rather, the Patriarch--nodded.
"No-ted," Bassena repeated the answer while typing it. "Good luck with your HM. Gratz."
"Good luck?" Senia tilted her head, once again trying her best to wrap up her mind about these people’s dynamics and culture. "Why would people need good luck on a honeymoon? Isn’t a conglomerate’s honeymoon a nice vacation in a comfortable tropical country?"
Gus laughed and patted the girl’s head in amusement. "What kind of movie did you watch?"
"Ugh--"
"Radia wouldn’t go far in this kind of situation," Bassena chuckled, sweeping his gaze across the main base. It had been quiet for weeks, but the battle was also fresh, so he wouldn’t put himself in a place where it’d be hard for him to come during an emergency. And then, he recalled Radia’s past reputation during academy days and smirked. "If anything, he wouldn’t go past his bed...probably."
"More like bedroom," Zein corrected. "Joon isn’t the type to leave any fuckable surface alone."
Senan gasped as he experienced the shock of hearing the guide saying such vulgar things nonchalantly. "Y-Young Master?
Zein looked at the middle-aged man innocently. Perhaps this uncle forgot that Zein had lived most of his life in the worst part of the world.
"Hey, how do you know my brother’s love life better than me?" Han Shin returned to his seat and narrowed his eyes at Zein suspiciously. "Wait--didn’t you know about them before us? How? When?"
"Ah..." Zein tapped his lips to recall--it had been more than three years after all. "Hmm...I walked in while they were going at it in the office."
A lot of utensils were clattering to the table and the floor as they parted their lips at the nonchalant answer. Han Shin even gasped and clutched his chest. "What?! When?!"
"My first week in Althrea...I think?"
This time, it was coughing sounds that filled the table around the campfire.
Han Shin grasped his own flabbergasted face in disbelief. "That long?! And you said nothing?"
"It’s not my secret to tell," Zein shrugged.
"What the hell!" again, they watched Han Shin grow agitated. "So you’re telling me he had been in and out of the guild without seeing me?!"
Not about the ’going at it in the office’ part?
"As always, you have a weird focus," Zein shook his head while chuckling.
"Hmm...annoying clingy brother," Bassena held his palm up and lowered it, while raising his other palm in the air like a pair of scales. "Rich boyfriend."
"A clear winner," Gus laughed while the others nodded in approval.
"Foul!"
"Alright, that’s enough," Bassena patted the healer’s head and pushed the man back to his seat. "Let’s finish our meal and go to sleep. We have to go and welcome our ship tomorrow."
