Chapter 504: Chapter 497. Detensioning

"So you see it too?" Radia arched his brow.

"Yep, that’s my reaction too," Bassena snapped his fingers, grinning.

"Mine too," Han Shin nodded.

They were no longer in the underground chamber--which Han Shin refused to enter again--nor the command tents, where Ashur and Kei were working their respective assignment. The biggest--and best--tent was the one that belonged to Bassena and Zein, so they ended up gathering there.

"It’s the first time that ever happened," Zein remarked briefly, before letting Bassena continue explaining how the vision went. The esper had heard everything from him earlier, so retelling was easy.

Zein had spent too much energy these past few days, with barely any sleep, and only sustained by energy bars. He was so tired that he had to force himself to eat the food that Radia’s secretary prepared for all of them, before plopping back on the couch and letting Bassena do the deliberation.

"Ugh..." Han Shin pressed his lips tightly at the end of it. "That’s..."

"A good motivation to finish this reclamation in triumph, is what it is," Radia chuckled as he stared at the blazing amber eyes. "Anger is a much better boost than fear, after all."

Bassena smiled deeply. It was just as Radia said; he still had a slight apprehension and well...fear, no matter how much he wanted to deny it. He knew the Fallen Star wouldn’t be as strong as it was before, but even a chip of mountain was still a huge boulder. Seeing a portion of the Celestial Wat during his thousand days of training made him wonder if any human could ever face such tremendous power that could split outer space and alter dimensional connection.

But after the vision, Bassena was reminded of the anger and disdain he had for Setnath before. It rekindled the conviction he had at the start, and the promise he made to Zein.

That he would end this accursed Deathzone for once and for all.

"Good," Radia smiled in satisfaction. "I’ve mobilized more people and provisions. They should arrive next week."

"You’re sending more people?" Bassena blinked in surprise. Not that he would object to it, but...

"What about the guild?" Han Shim voiced Bassena’s concern.

"What about it?" Radia chuckled. "I just need to recruit more people, no? I left enough to deal with our eternal dungeons, and more people are willing to join us after all of those great articles."

"Which you paid to make," Bassena smirked.

"What’s the point of living in Althrea if I can’t even control some media?" Radia shrugged. "It’s not like we’re lying."

Han Shin giggled mischievously. It seemed that he finally overcome all of the dread he had to endure for the past few days. Also, more provisions meant more sugar! Sweets! Snacks!

Looking at the healer’s brightened face, Radia chuckled and asked with a subtle smile. "You’re in the first batch to go back, aren’t you?"

"Uh-huh!"

"I’ll call the prison and let them know you’ll use your visitation pass," Radia said. "That way you won’t have to wait for the verification procedure."

Han Shin parted his lips, inhaling sharply at the thought of seeing his brother. He went to Radia and grabbed the summoner’s hands. "Brother-in-law!"

Radia rolled his eyes, but didn’t pull his hands away from the healer’s hold, who was rubbing them against his cheek. Bassena scoffed and shook his head; Han Shin had truly embraced the art of gaining two older brothers to spoil him.

"Who are you going to send here?" Bassena asked after Han Shin finished acting cute. Human resources was more important to him than provisions. "Rina? She’ll like it, going together with Ashur again."

"Not yet," Radia shook his head. "I still need someone to hold the fort while I’m away like this. Ah, but one of Zein’s kids will be here--who was it again? Arlo?"

"You’re sending a rookie?"

"I’m sending an eager boy to his family," Radia shrugged. "He was practically begging at Minho’s feet every day."

Zein lifted his head slightly. "Being with family...is good," he nodded, leaning his head against the platinum hair sitting in front of him.

Radia and Han Shin paused, watching the guide dazedly hug Bassena from behind, nuzzling the esper’s hair with closed eyes.

"What’s wrong with him?" Radia tilted his head in amusement. He was used to Bassena being all over Zein, but not the other way.

"He’s exhausted," Bassena patted the arms embracing him weakly. "Destroying the fragments and looking at its vision is taxing for the mind."

"That’s...interesting."

Bassena raised his brow inquisitively, and Radia chuckled in response. "Not about the taxing part, I know it already," after all, it wasn’t the first time he found the guide devoid of energy. "But...this," he raised his hand and pointed at the scene in front of him. "He’s clinging to you when he’s exhausted?"

Without opening his eyes, Zein mumbled a reply. "...need to recharge..."

"Pfft--seems like we need to go soon," Radia chuckled and glanced at his secretary. "Have you done installing the mark?"

"Yes, Master."

Han Shin perked up, looking at Nyx with sparkling eyes. "Oh? You can make a portal here, then?"

"I can, but the pressure from the miasma will make it harder," the summon explained. "I will have to use almost all of my energy to do it once."

"So I can’t do it too often," Radia shrugged.

Bassena nodded. If one could just come and go as they pleased inside this place, there would be no need for excursion; they just have to cross the portal for a hit and run against the Fallen Star. "Just use it as an emergency, then."

"That’s what it is," Radia smiled. He was here to check on them after the whole burning sheet fiasco. But his main reason was to put on a marker so he could be there instantly if things went wrong. If it was possible, he could also rescue people in the base by sending them through the portal, although it would mean he would be the one getting stranded in the Deathzone. "I would have to stay until Nyx’s energy filled up again, after all. Can’t do it too often."

If the Guildmaster of Trinity and the Chairman of Mortix spent a lot of time absent from Althrea, things could get awry. There would be no point in making him stay out of harm’s way if he ended up stranded here.

At that moment, they could hear a light breathing sound from the guide, and the black hair had fallen to Bassena’s shoulder. Radia smiled and stood up then, patting Bassena’s other shoulder.

"I’ll let you rest now."

"Yeah, sorry..."

Radia stared at the esper who swiftly took Zein in his arms and moved the guide to bed. "You too, Bas."

Bassena stood there and only blinked for a few seconds, as if he couldn’t process what Radia was saying. It took him a while to finally nod. "...oh, yeah--I’ll do that."

Radia chuckled and turned to follow Han Shin, who was already at the tent’s entrance, waiting for him while Nyx held the door open.

"Hey," Bassena called out quietly. "Thank you."

Radia turned his head to glance at Bassena’s wry expression. He smiled and asked relaxedly. "What for?"

Watching the red hair disappear behind the closed door, Bassena touched his shoulder, which had lost all tension. He laughed softly in gratitude, and let his body fall to the bed, next to the guide who immediately searched for his warm heat by instinct.

* * *

There was nothing better in the morning than waking up to see your partner’s beautiful face. Except, maybe, having that beautiful face on your neck, lips tracing the pulse, and fingers between the strands of your hair, scratching your scalp.

Bassena opened his eyes with a blissful smile. "So early? What is this?" he held the lean waist up on top of him. "A reward?"

"You can make it a reward for me," Zein raised his head and licked his lips, rubbing the mark he made on the esper’s neck. Trailing the muscle down, his fingers only stopped on top of a small protrusion.

Bassena raised his brow. "Are you not tired? You were out of it before Radia even left."

"We’re already asleep for ten hours, so my body is recharged," Zein shrugged.

Bassena raised his wrist to check on his commlink. Ah, indeed. They didn’t have any sleep after splitting to look for the shards, so their body had been screaming for compensation. No matter how high his constitution was, even Bassena would get exhausted after running for a day and fighting for hours.

"And since my body is recharged," Zein patted the esper’s cheek and ran his thumb over the curling lips. "It’s time for my mind to be energized."

Bassena slid his hand along the guide’s thigh. "By physical activity?"

"Naturally," Zein shrugged. "Isn’t this basically a morning exercise? Besides," the mischievous fingers were now on the esper’s hair, stroking lovingly as if the lust in those blue eyes were a lie. "You also need a guiding, aren’t you?"

Bassena took a deep breath and grabbed the guide’s waist. He was meant to flip their position, but Zein pushed him back to the mattress. The esper swallowed and bit his lips when Zein leaned down and whispered.

"No," the melodious voice rang low. "I’m going to ride you this time."
