Chapter 919: Chapter 754 Dawn
Compared to the War of Faith a thousand years ago,
the current power struggle between the Holy Court and the Empire is almost like child’s play. At least the world hasn’t been set ablaze because of it.
After dissipating all the resentment energy entwined within the Belief in Light, that will became somewhat blurred, no longer able to maintain control over this body’s actions.
“Back then, the resentment that beings harbored against the Holy Court was far more severe than this.”
Returning to the Statue of Light, he chuckled softly.
Back then, all the Ice and Snow Elves wanted was the faith of humans. When invasion proved ineffective, they turned to employing tactics of gradual conversion, but the Holy Court did not yield.
Thus, the wars dragged on endlessly, until the world finally descended in wrath and compelled them to cease.
At that time,
how the war started was no longer the pressing question. What beings saw were those who refused to relinquish this conflict.
Most beings possess faith.
It is to entrust their hopes.
But when hope is gone, even turned into the harbinger of disaster, then the backlash of faith inevitably comes to pass.
The Heresy Tribunal was only the beginning.
“And this time, it’s only just the start.”
“…”
Xu Shuo did not respond to these words.
Because for him, this time was already over.
For the story of this space, it was also the end.
…
Xu Shuo walked out from the Statue of Light.
He glanced at his own body, then at the towering, steadfast Statue of Light behind him, deep in thought.
The connection between the Pope of Light and the vessel of Belief in Light is not a simple one after all.
This is not merely because he can oversee the entire City of Light through the statue, but because the will of Belief in Light can perfectly project itself onto the Pope’s body.
Now that he thinks about it…
Every Supervisory Bishop who ascends as the Pope of Light undergoes bodily transformation marked by the Sun Crown—an extraordinary divine miracle in itself.
If someone carefully observed the portraits of the Popes within the Temple of Light,
they would find many similarities among them.
…
Yet Xu Shuo didn’t dwell too much on these matters.
He walked forward to the floral garden in the church’s backyard, reached into the dark space below the ground and pulled out a half-dead man.
The Heretical Inquisitor lay motionless, his body cloaked tightly in a black robe that exuded a hollow, lifeless aura.
Xu Shuo lifted his hood to take a look.
He found the man’s cheeks sunken and eyes darkened, his form resembling a moronic child, as though drained of vitality by some mountain spirits and ghosts.
“Hey!”
Xu Shuo shook him a few times.
The Heretical Inquisitor remained unresponsive.
His vacant eyes stared ahead, unfocused, and even the rhythm of his blinking had slowed to an unusual crawl.
Xu Shuo frowned and asked: “What did you do to him?”
The bride’s voice echoed in his mind: “I didn’t do anything. I merely absorbed all the resentment energy from his body. However, it seems his current state was sustained entirely by that energy.”
With this explanation, Xu Shuo understood.
—— “God Fallers.”
He was once a devout believer of the divine.
The divine does not abandon its faithful followers, but if a follower sinks into the Abyss of despair and refuses to believe in their god, they will descend into ruin.
He had now corrupted his faith into hatred, and his body only subsisted on this obsession.
At this point, to save him,
would require the choir to restore his sanity.
But the Holy Maiden of Light was evidently not the kind-hearted sort of maiden.
“Your Holiness.”
Just as Xu Shuo was thinking about the Holy Maiden,
she appeared and walked over.
Xu Shuo looked at her, then threw the Heretical Inquisitor toward her and said indifferently: “Deal with your own matter.”
The Holy Maiden sidestepped casually, avoiding the crashing Heretical Inquisitor.
She didn’t even glance at the man on the ground, her gaze fixed solely on Xu Shuo with scorching intensity: “Your Holiness, the crisis in the City of Light tonight has been resolved. What do you plan to do next?”
Xu Shuo answered with a question: “What about the Ice and Snow Elf?”
“I just had the Sister of Order lock her up in the Heresy Tribunal. Your Holiness, what do you intend to do with that little wretch?” The Holy Maiden’s gaze darkened as she eyed him.
Xu Shuo replied calmly: “No survivors.”
The Holy Maiden’s expression shifted slightly but she said nothing, merely smiling brightly as she accepted his words.
Xu Shuo then entered the chapel, planning to arrange some matters with the Priesthood to stabilize the City of Light for the next two days and prevent further disruptions.
After he left,
the Holy Maiden bent down and lifted the Heretical Inquisitor’s chin with her fingers.
“My pitiful little child.”
“As a God Faller, all that awaits you is the Abyss of damnation. What is inner torment compared to that?”
Gazing at the unresponsive Heretical Inquisitor, the Holy Maiden’s smile was gentle, but the blood-red tint of her left eye rendered her otherwise beautiful features grotesque.
The unconscious Heretical Inquisitor remained silent.
The Holy Maiden’s interest faded; she withdrew her smile and summoned a massive golden scythe in her hand, cutting down toward the traitor with a cold expression.
Countless golden chains enveloped the man on the ground, swallowing him completely until nothing remained.
…
…
Eastern Continent.
On the battlefield of Fahl City, the clash of arms thundered through the skies.
Wielding a silver-white war sword, the silver-haired man searching through the castle abruptly halted, his gaze drifting toward the void with a trace of confusion.
