Chapter 896: Chapter 740: Snatching_2
During the second attack.
It only left a bloodstain on Wald XVIII’s wrist, as he managed to dodge quickly, and Xu Shuo intentionally restrained his strength.
So this time, the return force did not directly sever the entire wrist.
Now…
Is it the dagger’s rules-based ability?
Or the intrinsic ability of Wald XVIII?
“But this ability on you is truly a waste.” Xu Shuo said, looking at Wald XVIII’s already recovered wrist.
“Whether it’s wasted or not, that’s not determined by the enemy’s opinion.” Wald XVIII smiled indifferently.
“If one doesn’t know how to wield it, then it’s better not to wield it.”
If this ability were to belong to Luo Kun,
That madman would probably get excited and recklessly trade injuries, chasing with a strategy of mutual destruction. Though he might kill a thousand enemies at the cost of losing eight hundred of his own, as long as the enemy’s loss is greater, his own loss would essentially count as nothing!
On the other hand, Wald XVIII would avoid even probing attacks that caused minor injuries.
One could indeed say it somewhat wastes the ability.
Xu Shuo gazed ambiguously at his opponent, his fingers interlaced, dancing gracefully as he deftly constructed a Magic Sigil. Radiant golden light flickered in the dark night.
The Magic Sigil stood out starkly in the night.
Especially since this was orthodox Light Magic, with golden energy winding from all directions, the sigil gradually expanded.
Seeing his actions,
This time, Wald XVIII charged forward proactively to pursue him.
But as he approached, a radiant barrier emerged around Xu Shuo.
Wald XVIII sneered coldly, his dagger extending into a serrated bayonet, its blade glimmering with a faint light, as it ruthlessly pierced the barrier, shattering it with a thunderous crack.
Xu Shuo transferred the Magic Sigil to his other hand while his left hand produced a dark green staff.
However, Wald XVIII was already upon him, striking the blocking staff with his bayonet. A dull hum resounded as Xu Shuo was surprised to find a faint mark appear on the staff!
Screeeech—
The bayonet scraped downward along the shaft of the staff, sparks scattering from the collision. Even amidst the golden magical energy, specks of dust seemed to scatter.
As the bayonet neared Xu Shuo’s left hand gripping the staff, Wald XVIII twisted his blade to strike his wrist.
Xu Shuo suddenly loosened his grip to evade the strike.
The staff fell to the ground, yet the bayonet, having missed, spun towards his chest. However, the next instant, Xu Shuo sidestepped, and the blade struck the wall instead.
Wald XVIII pursued relentlessly, his bayonet venomous as a serpent, thrusting at vital spots, slicing, chopping, stabbing, and sweeping. The two engaged in a fierce skirmish in the narrow corner.
Xu Shuo’s right hand, busy constructing the Magic Sigil, remained active.
He continually evaded direct confrontation with Wald XVIII. Even when forced close by the bayonet, he merely countered with simple blocks.
After realizing his opponent could return injury inflicted by physical force, launching a fresh attack might play straight into his opponent’s plans.
Such retaliation could even interrupt his Magic.
Suddenly, Wald XVIII ceased his chase.
He swiftly retreated to create some distance, flicking the dark green staff from the ground with his toe and clutching it in his hand. Then, he stared at the equally stationary Xu Shuo, a challenging smile curling from his lips.
Xu Shuo paused momentarily upon seeing this.
His fingers constructing the Magic Sigil slowed slightly.
In the next moment, however, his silver-white eyes flickered with golden radiance. The Magic Sigil was completed instantaneously, forming a colossal formation towering dozens of meters high.
The Array of Light shone dazzlingly.
In an instant, the entire street was illuminated.
The surrounding bay-leaf palm buildings were bathed in golden hues, as if dipped in sunlight’s gilded edges.
Rich Power of Light Faith permeated the area. Holy, solemn, dense, and oppressive energy emanated from the Magic Array.
Wald XVIII gazed up unexpectedly.
His earlier smile froze slightly, becoming forced and unnatural.
From the golden Magic Array.
A Phantom Giant, dozens of meters tall, emerged.
The giant radiated light, clad in golden armor etched with Sun Crown glyphs, a golden helmet obscuring the upper half of its face. In its hands, it gripped an equally enormous greatsword, exuding majestic brilliance like a medieval divine war general!
Against this giant, even Franks City-State’s tallest buildings seemed no more than playthings.
Let alone the humans on the ground.
The City Defense Forces, stationed nearby to monitor the battle, were paralyzed at the sight of the towering figure. Thousands trembled, unable to muster a hint of resistance.
The golden war general raised its massive greatsword, light swirling about it, and struck the ground forcefully!
“Boom!”
The intense Power of Light surged.
Where the greatsword struck, the street’s foundation and the buildings upon it were obliterated by an explosive force. Dust and debris soared instantly!
The City Defense Forces had no refuge, buried beneath a wave of collapsing structures.
In the weighty blackness of winter’s night.
The Radiance of Light prevailed!
…
…
“The Guardian God’s Acolyte of Light Faith?!”
In a secluded corner of Franks City-State.
Catalina stared at the distant, radiant giant in awe, its golden glow dominating the dark skyline. She widened her eyes slightly in shock.
Her astonishment stemmed from a single thought.
Had that guy encountered a terrifying adversary, enough to summon the Guardian God’s Acolyte?
In her understanding, the Guardian God’s Acolyte—a being summoned through Power of Faith—was an ultimate trump card reserved for moments of extreme peril.
The summoning demanded continuous consumption of Power of Faith. If the enemy were not neutralized before exhausting one’s strength, the summoner would be left utterly powerless.
Catalina pondered.
Weren’t there only two of them visiting Franks City-State?
If his strength waned, there would be no one to support him.
How was he planning to retreat?
Was it truly necessary to deplete himself in such a situation?
If the fight became impossible, escaping was still an option!
Yet, her impression of him said he wasn’t irrational like this. Then… could it be that something provoked him, leading him to stubbornly contest this fight?
While he usually acted sensibly,
In some ways, he seemed quite fond of picking fights.
For instance, frequently sparring verbally with her.
Catalina grew increasingly unsettled.
Clenching her fists and biting her lip, she hesitated for a while. Then, she suddenly stood and dashed toward the battlefield.
…
…
“Boom!”
At the center of the battlefield.
The golden war general struck and shattered the entire street with a single blow!
Wald XVIII immediately leapt away, scaling tall buildings swiftly. However, the surging force from the ground rebounded intensely upward, and the structure beneath him began collapsing inch by inch.
He retreated further, blinking rapidly to widen the distance. But Xu Shuo’s figure suddenly appeared behind him.
Wald XVIII whirled, slashing out sharply.
Xu Shuo, undeterred, reached out to grasp the blade. The sharp edge of the bayonet sliced into his palm, yet his expression remained emotionless as he firmly gripped the weapon.
Then, he extended his left hand toward Wald XVIII.
“Hand it over.”
The youth’s voice was cold and indifferent, devoid of any trace of emotion. Though surrounded by dazzling light, he was as biting as winter’s chill.
Wald XVIII’s lips twitched slightly.
At that moment, the golden war general suddenly crouched and leapt into the air, closing the gap in an instant. Raising its colossal greatsword, it slashed downward toward their position!
Wald XVIII’s eyes glinted with icy resolve as he threw the staff toward the youth’s outstretched hand.
But as he attempted to withdraw.
He realized he couldn’t extract his bayonet from Xu Shuo’s grip!
The youth’s clutch was unyielding.
Wald XVIII cursed vehemently.
He decisively released the bayonet and blinked away just as the golden war general’s greatsword slashed downward, passing phantom-like through Xu Shuo’s suspend body to crash into the ground.
“Boom!”
Another thunderous eruption ensued.
The unleashed Power of Light splintered the street, while the resulting shockwaves shattered nearby buildings.
Suspended in midair, blood dripped from Xu Shuo’s right hand, seeping along his wrist and vanishing into his armguard.
After casually glancing at Wald XVIII retreating to a distance, Xu Shuo raised his wounded hand to examine it. The bayonet had cut deeply enough to expose bone, its blood-drenched edge contrasting starkly against the gray-white metal.
On the blade were faint segmented marks, resembling the retractable structure of the “Staff of the Baseless.”
When collapsed, it was a five-inch dagger.
When extended, it lengthened to an eight-inch bayonet, its serrated tip tapered with blood grooves.
Xu Shuo inspected it for a while.
It seemed like a rather ordinary blade?
