Yang Qingyin was also very considerate and didn’t hold onto Luo Ziling’s hand for too long. She soon let go.

The touring area inside the Daming Palace Museum wasn’t very large, and there wasn’t much on display, but the group still spent nearly an hour wandering around.

During this time, Luo Ziling hardly paused, introducing the history of Daming Palace that he knew to the women, including the two famous Xuanwu Gate incidents from history.

"The Xuanwu Gate incident initiated by Emperor Taizong of Tang occurred at the Xuanwu Gate of Taiji Palace. When Li Longji seized the throne, he also staged a coup, but this coup happened at the Xuanwu Gate of Daming Palace."

"That was the time Shangguan Wan’er was killed," Yang Qingyin interjected.

"Exactly," Luo Ziling couldn’t help but feel emotional. "Shangguan Wan’er is actually my favorite historical woman. Despite her flaws, I still really like her. A woman with both talent and beauty, whose life was so tragic—many people feel both fondness and sympathy for her."

"Your love knows no bounds," Ouyang Feifei scoffed, casting a disdainful glance at Luo Ziling. "You even like women from a thousand years ago?"

"I also like Shangguan Wan’er," Yang Qingyin chimed in. "I even wrote an essay about her."

Hearing Yang Qingyin say something like that, Ouyang Feifei wisely decided to keep quiet and didn’t say anything more.

Luo Ziling chuckled but didn’t add anything else.

After visiting the museum, the group headed back to the Hanyuan Hall Ruins.

The Hanyuan Hall Ruins were the highest point within Daming Palace, aside from the Wangxiantai Ruins.

The Hanyuan Hall Ruins were at least ten meters higher than the square in front of the hall. Standing there and looking out at the square and the Danfeng Gate Ruins inspired profound feelings.

"The square in front of the hall is much larger than the one at the Forbidden City. It’s a pity—such a massive palace couldn’t be preserved," Yang Qingyin said emotionally while standing next to Luo Ziling, gazing at the scenery around them. "If it were still intact today, it would truly be a marvel of human history."

"If there had been no war, maybe it really could have been preserved until now," Luo Ziling replied. "From the time Daming Palace was completed to when Huang Chao and Zhu Wen burned it down, more than two hundred years had passed. Even houses made of modern reinforced concrete can’t last for hundreds of years. Back then, wooden houses managed to survive for so long, but they were ultimately burned down."

"The architectural techniques of that time were not inferior to modern ones," Ouyang Feifei added, surprisingly in a reflective mood. "For instance, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda have stood for over a thousand years without collapsing. If war hadn’t occurred, there would surely be many surviving buildings from the Tang Dynasty."

"When it comes to surviving Tang-era structures, imperial tombs are the most numerous," Yang Qingyin said, glancing sideways at Luo Ziling. "I’d like to pay homage to Zhao Mausoleum, Qian Mausoleum, and also visit the Han-era sites like Yang Mausoleum and Maoling Mausoleum."

"I’d like to go too," Luo Ziling immediately replied. "To pay respects to Emperor Taizong of Tang, Emperor Li Zhi, Empress Wu Zetian, and Emperor Wu of Han, as well as Wei Qing and Huo Qubing. They all made significant contributions to Huaxia."

"When do you plan to go?" Ouyang Feifei asked. "Tomorrow or the day after?"

"Whenever I feel like it," Yang Qingyin replied, ignoring both Ouyang Feifei and Luo Ziling as she walked toward the Xuanzheng Hall Ruins. "You can take care of your own business. I’ll ask Xiaoli to take me."

Ouyang Feifei shot Luo Ziling a disdainful glance and headed toward Xuanzheng Hall as well.

Luo Ziling felt a bit bored but still followed them.

Hanyuan Hall, Xuanzheng Hall, and Zichen Hall were the three main halls of Daming Palace, similar to the Taihe Hall, Zhonghe Hall, and Baohe Hall of the Forbidden City, lined up along a central axis. However, apart from their bases, all three halls disappeared completely. After the ruins park was established, no buildings were erected over them; only some artistic-looking column trellises were placed.

The group strolled leisurely while listening to Luo Ziling talk about the historical stories associated with Daming Palace.

In truth, when visiting Chang’an—especially places like the Daming Palace Ruins where history is deeply intertwined—if you have no knowledge of the history, the experience becomes rather bland. But if you know the stories and events that happened at the site and share them with your companions, the visit becomes much more enjoyable.

Of the group, Luo Ziling knew the most about history, while Yang Qingyin, being a History major, was also quite knowledgeable. Ouyang Feifei, however, who studied finance and management in university, wasn’t as well-versed in history. As a result, during the tour, Ouyang Feifei often had to watch helplessly while Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin chatted enthusiastically or even debated.

Still, she didn’t leave in a huff but occasionally asked Luo Ziling questions. She read the site introductions very carefully too.

Ye Xiaoli and Wang Qing didn’t stick with them closely but kept a certain distance.

Though they felt the visit was somewhat dull, they quietly followed along because of their responsibilities.

"When are you heading back to Yanjing?" Ouyang Feifei asked Luo Ziling.

"I haven’t decided," Luo Ziling shook his head. "I’ll return whenever I feel like it. You have a flight tomorrow afternoon?"

"Let’s see," Ouyang Feifei hesitated, not saying much more.

Next, the five of them walked toward the Yanying Hall Ruins and then headed toward Taiye Pool. They exited Daming Palace Ruins Park at the Taiye Pool exit but didn’t leave the scenic area entirely.

Within the Daming Palace Ruins Park, access to some core sections required tickets, but many other parts were freely accessible to the public, such as Xuanwu Gate and Chongxuan Gate.

Another key location Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin wanted to visit was the Linde Palace Ruins.

The Linde Palace Ruins were outside the ticketed area and required a bit of detouring to reach.

After leaving, Luo Ziling suggested they rent a four-person bicycle and ride around the ticketed perimeter of the ruins.

Ouyang Feifei agreed, and Yang Qingyin thought for a moment before accepting as well.

However, since there were five of them, a multi-person bicycle could only accommodate four.

Eventually, they decided that Luo Ziling, Yang Qingyin, and Ouyang Feifei would share one bike, while Ye Xiaoli and Wang Qing would ride shared bikes and follow behind.

"Haha, isn’t this a little surreal?" Luo Ziling joked to Yang Qingyin and Ouyang Feifei while renting the bike. "The grand Miss Yang and President Ouyang, who usually travel with bodyguards, are now riding a bicycle with a little rascal like me."

"If you think this is so rare, then let them take a few pictures for us later, so we can post them on social media and show off," Ouyang Feifei retorted sarcastically. Then she reminded him, "Qingyin and I are both delicate women, so you’ll have to do the pedaling later."

Luo Ziling looked uncertainly at the two beautiful women seated behind him. "So, you’re saying I’m just a rickshaw driver today?"

"That’s a pretty accurate description," Yang Qingyin nodded, kicking the back of the seat. "Driver, hurry up and take off—I still want to visit the city wall."

"..." Luo Ziling felt deeply annoyed. When had these two women formed an alliance against him?
