Chapter 1476: Chapter 1476: Unfortunately Dying
Seeing Luo Ziling appear, Ye Xiaoli sensibly took a step back and walked along the nearby path.
Yang Qingyin didn’t stop walking but continued moving forward, treating Luo Ziling standing ahead of her as if he were invisible.
Luo Ziling didn’t step aside; instead, he blocked Yang Qingyin’s path.
"Senior, you’re looking stunning today," Luo Ziling brazenly eyed Yang Qingyin and complimented her with a smile, "At first glance, I almost thought you were a palace maid who traveled through time from the Tang Dynasty. Dancing by the Taiye Pool, and oops! You accidentally slipped into the 21st century. Honestly, I really believe in time travel. Imagine if we could take a time machine back to the Tang Dynasty, standing right inside the glorious Daming Palace, or rowing a boat across the Taiye Pool—that would be wonderful."
Yang Qingyin didn’t react as coldly as Luo Ziling had anticipated. Instead, she squinted her eyes and asked, "Are you imagining yourself as Emperor Taizong of Tang or Li Longji?"
Seeing Yang Qingyin wasn’t treating him like an enemy, Luo Ziling breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but marvel, "It’d be amazing to be Emperor Taizong or Li Longji—they were remarkable rulers who ushered in the Zhenguan rule and the golden age of Kaiyuan!"
"Indeed, being emperor is great—three palaces, six courts, seventy-two concubines, and three thousand beauties in the harem," Yang Qingyin responded with a mocking look at Luo Ziling. "Is that your ultimate dream?"
"A top-notch student of the history department, yet such a narrow perspective on historical matters?" Luo Ziling feigned a look of anguished disappointment. "I can’t believe it, especially since you’re a scholar! Did any of your ancient history tests ask questions like how many concubines an emperor had?"
"Is studying history merely for exams?"
"Is studying history only for researching an emperor’s concubines rather than focusing on their monumental achievements?"
"I don’t have time for you," Yang Qingyin retorted as she extended her hand to shove Luo Ziling aside.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she extended her hand, Luo Ziling seized it.
Yang Qingyin didn’t struggle but looked at Luo Ziling with a peculiar expression. "Last night, you held another woman’s hand, and now you’re holding mine—don’t you feel guilty?"
"Smart women always have this flaw of being presumptuous," Luo Ziling didn’t let Yang Qingyin pull away and tightened his grip. "I saw you last night, but when I chased after you, I couldn’t find you again. And for the record, I didn’t hold anyone’s hand last night."
Yang Qingyin didn’t deny anything; she simply looked at Luo Ziling calmly and asked, "Are you trying to imply something with this?"
"Not at all, I’m just blaming you—why did you hide when you saw me?"
"Some men always assume they’re so clever," Yang Qingyin let Luo Ziling hold her hand and spoke in the same tone as before. "Can’t you figure out why I didn’t want to see you?"
"Newton had two cats, one big and one small. He made two holes for them—a big one and a small one."
"What?" Yang Qingyin froze momentarily.
"I mean, even the smartest person has moments of diminished intelligence."
"Move aside, I don’t want to deal with you," Yang Qingyin snapped, shaking off Luo Ziling’s hand before striding forward quickly.
Luo Ziling hurried to catch up, but he didn’t try holding Yang Qingyin’s hand again. Instead, he smiled and asked, "Don’t you need a free guide to show you around the Daming Palace and explore Chang’an City?"
"I’m a top-performing history major; do I need a semi-illiterate like you who probably didn’t even finish grade school to explain anything to me?" Yang Qingyin said this without slowing her pace.
"At least I’m now a student at Yan University," Luo Ziling countered. "Do you know what Yan University is? It’s one of Huaxia’s most prestigious universities, renowned across the world."
"Pfft," Yang Qingyin rolled her eyes at Luo Ziling. "Yan University’s reputation must’ve taken a hit because of students like you who sneaked in through connections."
Luo Ziling wasn’t affected by Yang Qingyin’s sarcasm and continued boasting. "At the very least, I’ve raised the standard of Yan University’s campus heartthrobs, haven’t I?"
"If anything, you’ve lowered the quality of Yan University’s heartthrobs."
"Impossible! You should say, ’You’ve elevated the charm and integrity of Yan University’s campus heartthrobs to a whole new level.’ After all, if you degrade me, you’re degrading yourself—aren’t you officially my girlfriend now?"
"Who’d want to be your girlfriend," Yang Qingyin huffed and quickened her pace, leaving Luo Ziling behind.
"This stone would make a great backdrop for a photo," Luo Ziling caught up to Yang Qingyin, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and pointed to a round stone near the Taiye Pool. "You know, back in the day, only royalty could stroll by the Taiye Pool—it wasn’t open to ordinary folks."
"Maybe it was just a palace maid!" Yang Qingyin didn’t resist but didn’t obey Luo Ziling’s suggestion either, instead standing beside the stone.
"Don’t worry, if you were back in ancient times, you’d definitely be at princess level—no way you’d be a mere palace maid," Luo Ziling said, then scooped Yang Qingyin up and placed her onto the stone.
Yang Qingyin let out a startled shriek, instinctively clutching Luo Ziling’s arm. As he prepared to settle her down on the stone, she leaned forward and bit his arm.
"You actually bit me! If I had let go due to the pain, your behind would’ve split into eight pieces from the fall." Luo Ziling smacked Yang Qingyin’s rear heavily before finally placing her onto the stone.
Yang Qingyin, feeling the sting, lashed out with a kick, but Luo Ziling quickly dodged.
She turned her head away and ignored Luo Ziling.
"Perfect! Your posture and angle here are great for photos," Luo Ziling remarked as he readied his phone for pictures, only to realize it was still turned off.
While Luo Ziling powered on his phone, Yang Qingyin shifted her body slightly, leaving only her back visible to him.
Luo Ziling didn’t mind. Once his phone was powered on, he adjusted his position and snapped several photos of Yang Qingyin.
After taking the photos, Luo Ziling climbed onto the stone and showed the pictures to Yang Qingyin.
"Senior, even with that serious expression, you’re stunning beyond words," Luo Ziling declared earnestly. "How about giving us a smile for comparison? Let’s see whether you’re more beautiful smiling or not smiling."
"Leave me alone. I’m not talking to you," Yang Qingyin glanced briefly at Luo Ziling’s phone before turning her head away again.
Luo Ziling tugged Yang Qingyin’s head back around, putting his arm around her shoulder to encourage her to look at the photos together.
Yang Qingyin grumbled in annoyance and pinched Luo Ziling’s arm hard but eventually turned her head back to join him in viewing the pictures.
At the worst possible moment, a message from Ouyang Feifei popped up on Luo Ziling’s screen.
"Ziling, will you come to Tang Paradise with me this afternoon? I heard there’s a lantern festival. Let’s enjoy the festival together and head out afterward, okay?"
Upon seeing the message, Yang Qingyin’s expression immediately soured. She shoved Luo Ziling away, jumped off the stone, and walked off.
