Chapter 1377: Chapter 1377: Ling Jinhua’s Reaction
Luo Xusheng indeed did not return but headed straight out of Yuezhou to Jinling.
The very next morning, Ling Ruonan took a flight and left Yuezhou, going back to Yanjing.
Plane tickets were hard to come by during the Spring Festival, but this was not a problem for people of Wuyue’s status like Ling Ruonan, who would certainly be able to get a ticket.
Luo Ziling took Ling Ruonan to the airport.
He shared the car with Ling Ruonan and Wuyue.
The mother and son sat in the back, discussing matters related to cooperation with the Luo Family and the Yuezhou Municipal Government.
Wuyue sat silently in the front, not uttering a word throughout the journey.
She was clearly much colder towards Luo Ziling, only exchanging a few courteous pleasantries as if on official business.
Wuyue’s frosty demeanor perplexed Luo Ziling, but he couldn’t find an opportunity to inquire alone, and he didn’t know how to bring it up either.
In the end, he said nothing.
"Mom, I wish you smooth sailing," Luo Ziling waved to them with a smile as Ling Ruonan and Wuyue were about to enter the security checkpoint, "Sister Wuyue, please take good care of my mom. I’ll be back to Yanjing in a few days."
Wuyue just nodded lightly and didn’t say anything to Luo Ziling.
"Grandpa is likely to return to Yanjing around the Lantern Festival, maybe even earlier. When it’s time, you can come back with him," Ling Ruonan softly instructed before stepping into the security checkpoint, "Originally, grandpa wanted to take you to the Yang Family Old House to give Old Sir Yang a check-up, but after what happened during the New Year, he’s decided to wait. The old man values his status and face; he fears that a cold reception would lead to a loss of face should he visit."
"I’ll ask Qingyin about it. If Old Sir Yang really holds a grudge against us because of Yang Yunzhong’s incident, then of course I won’t let grandpa go to the Yang Family Old House and suffer humiliation," Luo Ziling replied with a smile, a hint of helplessness in it.
Before leaving, Yang Qingyin specifically mentioned this matter, and at the time, Luo Ziling was also planning to visit the Yang Family Old House before Qingyin and Yang Yunlin returned. However, after the incident where Yang Yunzhong was grievously injured during the New Year’s Eve dinner, Luo Liansheng changed his mind.
He told Ling Ruonan that he would only visit if Yang Yunlin personally invited him, as not to lose face.
With Luo Liansheng putting it that way, Luo Ziling had no choice but to agree and follow grandpa’s wishes.
Still, he planned to visit the Yang Family Old House someday.
After all, a promise to Qingyin should be kept.
After Ling Ruonan and Wuyue passed through the security channel, Luo Ziling left the airport and returned to Yuezhou.
Everyone had left, and only Luo Ziling remained with grandpa Luo Liansheng, just like the old days back in the Northwest.
Somehow, Luo Ziling felt a slight sense of loss.
Even though it was still just him and grandpa, it was not like it had been in the Northwest.
Back in the little mountain village in the Northwest, they didn’t interact much with other people; most of the time, it was just the two of them.
Back then, Luo Ziling felt that it was just the two of them against the world.
But now, after leaving the mountain village, after experiencing so much in Yanjing, staying with grandpa no longer had that sense of mutual dependency.
Grandpa had made a lot of friends. He enjoyed spending time drinking tea and chatting with these new friends, leaving less time for Luo Ziling, who also didn’t plan to stick with grandpa all the time. People, after all, like to socialize with those of their own age, especially for someone like Luo Ziling, a young handsome guy who was surrounded by beautiful women upon arriving in Yanjing. Without a single beautiful woman by his side and grandpa busy with his new friends, Luo Ziling found himself somewhat bored. Thankfully, Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun were still in Yuezhou.
After attending to some matters with Luo Xusheng, they also returned to Yuezhou.
In the following days, Luo Ziling visited many places, accompanied by these two fellows in turns.
Zhuji Wuxie, Douyan, Keqiao Keyan, Xinchang Great Temple, etc., any place that could be visited within a day, they went for fun.
Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun were taking turns following Luo Ziling, not daring to be careless at all.
After the incident in Yanjing, both Ling Ruonan and Luo Xusheng were worried about possible retaliation, hence they were extra cautious.
Their caution indeed paid off, as someone was indeed tracking Luo Ziling. However, upon realizing they were on guard, in the end, nothing came of it.
Luo Ziling’s casual touring was partly intended as fishing, to see if anyone indeed sought revenge.
If anyone dared to seek retaliation, he wouldn’t mind dealing with them thoroughly.
What did it matter that it was during the New Year?
A tit for tat is only fair, and he intended to give those people a taste of their own medicine.
Luo Ziling didn’t ask what they did after returning to Yanjing, and they said nothing.
-------------
Due to a flight delay, Ling Ruonan arrived in Yanjing late at night.
The journey was somewhat exhausting, and that night Ling Ruonan went to bed early.
The next morning, she brought gifts to visit Ling Jinhua at the old family home.
After the New Year’s Eve reunion, the old house had once again become quiet. When Ling Ruonan arrived, Ling Jinhua was sitting alone in the courtyard, basking in the sun.
It was snowing in the South, but Yanjing enjoyed a clear sunny day, and it was quite warm sitting in a spot shielded from the wind.
Following Luo Ziling’s treatment, Ling Jinhua’s complexion had changed drastically, even the age spots on his face had faded.
"Grandfather, I’ve come to wish you a Happy New Year," said Ling Ruonan, handing over the gifts she brought, including a jar of twenty-two-year-old Daughter Red wine from Yuezhou and other local specialties to Secretary Huang Chen and then sat down with a smile beside Ling Jinhua, "This year I celebrated the New Year in Yuezhou. The countryside was quite lively. Snowing in the South has its own charm."
Ling Jinhua showed a slight smile, "I heard that Luo Liansheng spent a fortune to buy the Luo Family Old Mansion under his own name and is now refurbishing it!"
Ling Ruonan was unsure of the implication behind Ling Jinhua’s question but ultimately answered honestly: "The Luo Family Old Mansion is a national heritage property, an ancient house with several hundred years of history from the late Ming to early Qing Dynasty. I’ve heard officials in Yuezhou say that if Grandfather Ziling is willing, they plan to apply for the title of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit for the old mansion. There are not many old houses from that era that have been well-preserved."
"The Luo Family is indeed from a line of prominent households!" Ling Jinhua commented before slowly closing his eyes.
"I’ve heard that Haining, Haijun, and a few others got into a fight on New Year’s Eve?" Ling Ruonan was confused about what Ling Jinhua meant by bringing up the Luo Family Old Mansion. She hesitated for a moment before proactively speaking about the injuries of a few nephews, "I’ll go check on them later."
"You should," Ling Jinhua sighed faintly, his tone tinged with helplessness, "After all, they bear the Ling surname."
"Grandfather, I’ve just returned, and I’m not very clear about the situation. I’d like to know, how do our Ling Family and the Chen Family plan to settle this matter now?"
Ling Jinhua slightly lifted his eyelids and looked at Ling Ruonan with a profound gaze, then said, "Such trivial matters are not worth my worry; let them resolve it themselves. If they’re inferior in skill, they deserve their misfortune."
Upon hearing Ling Jinhua say this, Ling Ruonan’s heart involuntarily skipped a beat.
