The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system -
Chapter 366 - 366 Mayor's visit
366: Mayor’s visit.
366: Mayor’s visit.
Alix took a tour around the school the next day, guided by the principal and some of the security guards.
The purpose of the tour was to emphasize that every corner of the school had been unharmed by the movement of the ground as a result of the earthquake.
“It’s too cold.” Jin Kang whined, five minutes into the exercise.
Even though she was wrapped up in warm clothes, the cold was had to keep off completely.
Alix looked around then and she realized most of the people that had come with her were the same way, shivering.
Not that she had invited them to come with her.
She simply mentioned what she was going to do and they followed her.
“Let’s go back.” She stopped walking and turned around.
Everyone dispersed, returning to their offices or desks quickly.
Alix sat behind her desk and prepared herself to game rather than work.
Tapping a section of the virtual screen where she kept all her intel gathered on friends, family and enemies, she went for information on Lai Yanfang immediately.
“Hey, blue smurf, have you discovered anything new about Lai Yanfang or the people that killed themselves.” “You are back to calling me that i see.” It mumbled.
“I never stopped.” The phone at her desk rung then and she picked it up without a thought.
“Songbird….” On the other end of the call, before she could say a word, Jenny whispered furiously.
“Director, the mayor is here.” Before Alix could respond to that, the call was cut off and the door to her office was opened from the outside.
The mayor entered and then closed the door, even going as far as to lock it from the inside so that nobody else would come inside.
Alix raised her brows, smiled a little and leaned back in her chair.
Mayor Qui was nothing if not forceful in everything he did.
She was not surprised to see him behaving this way.
He sat down and looked at her, no smile on his face, just angry eyes as if she had already done something to piss him off.
“What can i do for you Mr.
mayor?” she asked.
“You know why i am here.” “I was expecting a phone call first at least and not a personal visit.” He banged his fist on the table but Alix remained calm.
Nothing flinched or twitched, not even her little toe.
“You, what do you know about my grandson?” he asked in a commanding voice.
“Let me warn you right now.
If you think that you will use his life to threaten or corner me somehow you are mistaken.
I will not be blackmailed by the likes of you.” “For someone that is here because you need a heart to save the life of someone you love, you are quite rude.” she cut in and said.
“I am not the one blackmailing you.
I think you are mistaking me for Lai Yanfang.” His eyes widened and Alix smiled knowingly.
“She really knew what she was doing when she decided to take control of Dahei insurance.
With access to health and personal information of many influential people in the city and country, she has quite a long reach.
I can only imagine how many favors she has had you do for her.” The mayor gritted his teeth unhappily and he clenched his jaw.
“Initially i just wanted to do my husband a favor and see to it that you get out of his way but now i want much more.” Mayor Qui scoffed.
“You are just like her.” Alix made a look of disgust and she shook her head.
“Don’t lump me in with trash like her.
The only thing i need from you is information on her and anybody else that you think could be in her pocket.
I need to know her secrets, the ones which cannot be found on paper.
Fear not, Mr.
mayor, I will not use the life of a child to keep you in line.” “You don’t like her.” The mayor said in realization.
“Mmm, it’s the other way round, she doesn’t like me.
I simply want to be able to protect myself and my small business from her.” The mayor didn’t need to know what she was thinking or planning.
“She has eyes everywhere.
I would not be surprised if she has someone inside your school providing her with information on your every move.” “That is not for you to worry about mayor, it’s my problem.” He laughed softly and nodded.
“You already know who it is.” She shrugged and replied neutrally, “I have eyes everywhere too mayor.
How else do you think i was able to find out about your grandson?
Lai Yanfang is not the only one with resources.” “Are you borrowing the power of the Zhang family?” She smiled and shrugged.
He didn’t need to know where her information was coming from.
If people were assuming that the power and influence of the Zhang family is what she was depending on to catapult herself, so be it.
It was better for them all to assume wrongfully than to wonder where her resources were coming from.
In fact, Alix was now considering secretly building a force of her own.
Earth was proving to be a little too dangerous for her liking.
Suddenly, mayor Qui laughed sarcastically and said, “But, then again, if the Zhang’s knew about my grandson then the old man would have used him against me already.
They claim not to get involved in politics but secretly, they gather information about politicians and use it to their advantage when need be.” Alix didn’t respond to that.
She had already figure some of this out when the grand prosecutor and grandpa Zhang appeared to be on good terms.
Every rich business man needed to grease a few hands once in a while.
Business and politics often went hand in hand.
It was the extent of involvement which differed.
“I cannot trust you.
I can never trust a Zhang, a Lai, a Lin, a Du…basically, all the richest families of the country.
Wealth applauds every politician that rises to the top.
As for the one that has sunk to the bottom, they are quickly forgotten.
You people seek to control power with your money.
You buy influence and sway the common people to do as you wish, turning us all into pawns.
No, i cannot trust you.” He started off strong and ended softly.
“But i didn’t come to you as Zhang, Lai, Lin, Du or member of any wealthy family, I came as Alix.
I am sure you have looked into me so you know that i am loyal to my friends.
I never forget the ones that reached a hand out to me when i was in trouble.
Right now, i am reaching a hand out to you.
If you take my hand, i will be the one to save you from Lai Yanfang’s claws, starting with your grandson and then your own wife.” She extended her hand forward, giving the mayor only one chance.
If he accepted her offer, she could save him but if he rejected her, then he might as well sink with the boat which she was going to sink personally.
