He turned and glared pointedly at Yating with red angry eyes.

It was him that married a foolish woman that didn’t know what to say or when to say it.

They had been trying to keep the news of the second elders death quiet but it was obvious now that Yi Yong had started spreading it.

If her family knew, then others would soon know as well.

Unlike the first branch where Caishen and others had moved to protect Alix, nobody tried to protect Yi Yong.

They understood the gravity of what she had done and they didn’t want to be seen as her accomplices or supporters.

A bodyguard forcefully took her outside despite her protests and cries.

All of this drama was unexpected, especially to Alix.

Wasn’t death supposed to bring a family together?

“Are you okay?” Caishen asked her She nodded and placed her hand on his shoulder.

In her mind, Alix heard the system say, “You are so out of it that you are not listening.” “Eh!” she responded in confusion.

She looked around the room, unsure of what she was supposed to be listening for.

“Stop blocking out other sounds like an ordinary human and listen.” It shouted.

On the virtual screen, the blue elf pulled on it’s hair and made a frustrated face.

“Listen.” it yelled through gritted teeth.

“For what?” she asked stubbornly.

She still did as it was telling her to do even though she had no idea why.

She strained her hearing, using all of her senses and she even closed her eyes momentarily.

Those who were watching her in the room were unbothered or a little curious.

The curious ones like Zhang Mixi were wondering if she was going to burst into tears suddenly.

Even though she had no personal relationship with the second elder, she was still family.

Crying for a deceased member of the family in public was sort of an obligation.

If one couldn’t cry, they at least needed to have red swollen eyes or fallen faces like the cheeks of a bulldog.

So far, Alix had not portrayed much sorrowful emotion.

Zhang Mixi turned to Zhang Lexian, his cousin.

She was crying louder after Yi Yong was thrown out of the room.

Any second from now, she would cover her mouth and burst into a loud cry.

She had been doing that on and off ever since she arrived.

She had been one of the second elders favorite great grandchildren that had been close to him so the gravity of her despair was understandable.

Alix in the meantime was coming to a realization about why the system wanted her to listen.

She was detecting a faint heartbeat that did not belong to any of the still alive people in the room.

It was so faint like a drop of water falling out of a broken pipe deep underground every other second.

Of course, no ordinary human could hear such a sound.

“Do you hear it?” The system asked her.

“Amazing, isn’t it?

How did nobody sense it?

Alix slowly came to a realization of what it was.

“Holy shit!!” she shouted out loud.

Her cursing surprised everyone in the room and brought the tears to a temporary stop.

Zhang Lexian had just opened her mouth to wail but somehow, the cry went askew as it turned into shock.

Every eye in the room turned to Alix and ninety percent of those eyes were unhappy.

She was especially receiving the same glare from the third elder that Yi Yong had received before being thrown out.

Moving quickly in an attempt to help, she ripped the white sheet off the second elder, exposing his half naked body to everyone’s eyes.

A collective gasp went around the room as they were all taken aback.

So many eyes widened in shock and more than a few women dramatically put hands over their lips.

“Oh my God.” someone said.

“What are you doing?” The third elder asked her sternly.

He shot Caishen the same look of disapproval that he had given Zhang Yating after the actions of his wife.

He couldn’t believe that there was another disrespectful son of the family that had married an idiot.

“Are you crazy?” Zhang Changpu yelled at her.

“How dare you disrespect my father like this just because he is dead?

First elder, i will not stand for this.

I draw the line at this.” Others nodded and continued to give Alix looks of disapproval.

Even the first elder was displeased and he was going to address this.

Alix was going to be thrown out indeed.

Not even Zhang An and Zhang Bo could stand up for her under these circumstances.

This was beyond their understanding.

“I am sure that there is an explanation for this.” Caishen came to the defense of his wife.

“What explanation could be there for desecrating my father’s corpse?

Throw that woman out right now before i break her neck.” An angry irrational Zhang Changpu shouted.

He had this rage in his eyes as he glared at Alix and it looked like he would pounce on her like a lion on a zebra at any moment.

Zhang Mixi and Lexian covered up the second elder again, meanwhile.

They would not allow the dignity he maintained in life to be thrown out in death.

In a calmer voice, Caishen answered, “Uncle, why don’t we allow my wife to explain herself first.

If she doesn’t have a reasonable explanation then i will escort her out personally.”  He looked at Alix and so did everyone else in the room and they waited impatiently for her to explain doing what she had done.

She pointed to the second elder and shook her dead.

“He…the second elder he__”  The system jumped in just when she was about to tell them all the good news.

“I wouldn’t tell them all without finding out what should have killed him because i am scanning him and i am detecting poison.”  Her eyes widened and she put a hand over her mouth.

Her mind was working very quickly at this point.

“What is it?” the third elder asked fiercely.

Alix made a decision on the spot and she squeezed herself through the others and found her way to the grandpa Zhang.

Without wasting a moment or paying attention to those disgruntled people she had sort of shoved out of the way to get to him, she bent down as close to his ear as possible since he was sitting.

“He is still alive.

Grandpa, believe in my words right now.

The second elder is not dead, not fully.”
