Chapter 605: Chapter 448 Heavenly Butcher’s Commission_2
"Don’t look at me; you insisted on coming. You deal with your own mess."
Niu Ma had no intention of rescuing him.
"Alright, fine."
He forced a bitter smile.
"Back then, I killed all the overseers at the ’Heaven’ ranch, and burned every Pigman alive, thinking it was over."
"But when I was hanging on the gallows, I saw another bishop dressed in the same crimson robe, riding a truck full of Pigmen headed toward the ’Heaven’ ranch."
"That’s when I realized that nothing had ended; it was just the beginning of another cycle."
"However, after coming to the black market, I finally found the source of it all."
"John Miller. He’s a member of the city council, a livestock industry tycoon, and also the Pope of a cult."
"He monopolized the business of breeding Pigmen, and the core technology of Pigman breeding is known only to him."
"As long as we eliminate him and destroy those existing ranches, this cycle will come to an end."
Oynk said slowly.
"Could it be that this technology was granted to him by his God?"
Liu Zheng caught a peculiar detail.
Proclaiming divine revelation in reality is often just a means to bolster one’s authority, but in Metropolis, this might very well be stating an actual fact.
"No, because the god worshipped by his little cult is himself."
Oynk shook his head.
"He declares himself as the flesh embodiment of a deity, sent to oversee the bodies of his followers in this world. Meanwhile, the ’Holy Spirit’ they venerate guards the souls of believers in Heaven."
"And who are his followers?"
He asked.
"The Pigmen."
Oynk answered.
"Hmm, as expected."
Liu Zheng shrugged.
Doesn’t God also claim humans are His penned lambs, with priests serving as the whip-bearing shepherds?
As for attracting followers, it’s even simpler.
Tell the Pigmen that only by believing in John Miller can they be saved, then select a group of Pigmen sycophants and declare them devout believers, giving them vastly superior treatment over the others.
Then pick out a few rebellious Pigmen, label them as heretics or devils opposing the god, and execute them in the most brutal way imaginable.
In a world already steeped in extraordinary powers, erecting a cult is surprisingly easy.
"And what about the employees at those ranches? Whether they believe or not, I wouldn’t know."
Oynk remarked.
"Doesn’t the black market have assassination services? Why not hire a killer to take him out?"
Liu Zheng asked again.
"No one dares accept a hit against a current council member; that’s a red line for City Hall."
Oynk shook his head.
"Fair enough."
Indeed, even someone as formidable as the Urban Legend-tier Sha Jiang didn’t dare show their face publicly after assassinating a council member. This proves how zero-tolerance City Hall is toward such acts.
Then again, it might also be because they happened to kill a deputy director along the way.
"I’ll keep this in mind, but I can’t promise when or if I can act on it."
Liu Zheng thought for a moment and replied.
"That’s fine; I can wait."
Oynk said.
After all, with this kid’s speed of growth, that day wouldn’t be too far off.
"Hmm..."
The two fell into silence, creating a somewhat awkward atmosphere.
"Well, since you’ve said your goodbyes, weren’t you heading to the General Services? Get going already."
Niu Ma broke the delicate tension.
"Oh, uh, sure."
Liu Zheng responded hastily.
"Are you guys going to the General Services?"
Oynk asked.
"Yep, this kid got hold of some grass and insists on going to the General Services for divination."
Niu Ma said.
"Interesting, then let’s go."
Oynk stood up.
"Huh, Boss, you’re coming too?"
Niu Ma froze.
"Why, am I not allowed?"
Oynk retorted.
"Of course you are, but don’t you hate going out?"
Niu Ma scratched his head.
Oynk merely used the black market as a place to hide, but he didn’t like its grimy and ostentatious hustle, rarely leaving his slaughterhouse. Even for supplies, he’d just have them delivered.
"Do I need your permission to do anything?"
Oynk gave him a sidelong glance.
"Nope, you’re the boss; it’s your call."
Niu Ma ducked his head and stepped aside.
"Hmm."
Oynk grabbed an iron skewer and headed toward the exit, letting the meaty juices drip onto the floor.
But judging from the floor’s grimy state, there wasn’t much left to stain.
"Haha... Uh."
Just as Liu Zheng was about to chuckle, Niu Ma shot him a glare.
"Hmph!"
Niu Ma lifted his chin and followed Oynk out of the slaughterhouse.
"Tch, should’ve brought Niu Daji along."
He muttered under his breath.
As they entered the General Services, the interior was pitch black.
The candles weren’t lit, and the Crystal Skull’s sockets were dark and devoid of light.
"Are they not home?"
Liu Zheng asked disappointedly.
"Or maybe they’re asleep? How about calling out to check?"
Niu Ma suggested.
"Good idea, so who’s calling?"
Both of their gazes landed on Oynk.
No way could either of them risk triggering the awake crankiness of a General Services master.
"And who was it earlier who didn’t want me coming along?"
Oynk’s tone carried a faint trace of mockery.
"Not me."
Liu Zheng immediately denied.
"Nor me—*cough*—I just didn’t want to disturb your rest, Boss."
Niu Ma smiled obsequiously.
"Sometimes I wonder why I made the mistake of taking you in as a lackey. Even Black Claw and Yellow Monkey combined didn’t stoop as low as you."
Oynk seemed almost exasperated.
"And that’s why they’re dead, leaving only me—the lowest, most shameless one—to keep you company."
Niu Ma’s smile faded as he spoke faintly.
"Hmm."
Oynk said nothing further, merely nodding before stomping gently.
"Thud!"
A dull sound reverberated through the General Services, jolting every item in the room without knocking anything over or even shifting their positions.
"Hmm? Guests have arrived, huh."
Two specks of crimson light ignited in the Crystal Skull’s eye sockets, swelling into twin orange-red Will-o-the-wisps.
"The Heavenly Butcher graces my humble shop once again—truly an honor."
"Is that a gift you’ve brought for me? I appreciate the thought, but sadly, I must decline."
The General Services glanced at the roasted meat in Oynk’s hand, jesting.
"I wasn’t planning on giving it to you anyway."
Oynk replied flatly, cleaning the meat clean off the skewer in one go.
"Then why not finish it before coming out?"
Liu Zheng couldn’t help but silently complain to himself.
"Haha, amusing. It’s you again, delivery boy Liu Zheng."
The General Services turned its gaze toward him.
"Good evening, General Services master."
Liu Zheng greeted politely.
"Master? An interesting title. What brings the illustrious Liu Zheng here today? Any business you’d like to discuss?"
The General Services chuckled amicably, showing no trace of grumpiness from being woken up.
"Master, please take a look at this."
Liu Zheng immediately presented the half-withered Divination Grass.
"Oh? Divination Grass. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such an item."
The Will-o-the-wisps in the General Services’ eyes twitched slightly.
"Do you wish to sell it to me, use it for divination, or something else entirely?"
It asked.
"Is there another use for it?"
Liu Zheng asked in return.
"That depends on whether it falls within my purview. After all, I am the General Services, not the Omnipotent Services."
It cracked a joke.
"Then, Master, please take a look at this as well."
He hurriedly took out the Resentment Relics of the Black Carp Dragon.
"Oh~ Delivery boy extraordinaire, you never fail to amaze me. Even this? Did you raid the Fisherman’s stash or something?"
This time, the General Services was genuinely astonished.
"I got it in the sewer."
Liu Zheng didn’t elaborate further.
"I see. So, why have you brought it to me? What would you like me to do with it?"
The General Services didn’t press for answers.
"I’d like to know if there’s a way to suppress its negative effects or modify their activation rate, or something along those lines."
He explained.
"There is, and I have just the perfect item for you."
The Will-o-the-wisps in the General Services’ eyes flickered, and a dice emerged from a pile of miscellaneous items, floating automatically to Liu Zheng.
It was an ordinary six-sided plastic dice, except the numbers on each face constantly shifted between 1 and 6.
Liu Zheng caught the dice, and a description of the item immediately popped into his view.
"This is!"
At the sight of the item’s effects, his pupils contracted violently with shock.
