Chapter 583: Chapter 437: Make Niu Ma Bow and Greet Me_2
Liu Zheng said.
"Brother, you really know how to handle big things; your generosity is impressive. Rest assured, I’ll definitely pass on your message."
"How about this: I’ll talk to the manager again and ask him to send more young and daring people who can fight hard."
"As for my old buddies, honestly speaking, they’ve got the skills, but their drive isn’t as strong."
The old security guard replied.
"Alright, then I’ll leave it to you, brother."
"Don’t mention it, we’re all family after all."
The old security guard replied with a smile.
After finalizing everything, Liu Zheng left the security room and returned to the tank to wait.
A while later, a Coaster vehicle drove in from afar.
As the vehicle pulled up at the apartment entrance, a group of fully armed security guards stepped out one by one.
Most of them had humanoid appearances; those who weren’t entirely human-shaped had body structures similar to humans, so they all wore standardized black uniforms.
Their equipment included bullet-proof vests, anti-cut gloves, anti-toxic masks, anti-explosion shields, and similar protective gear.
On the weapons front, they were equipped with shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, handguns, tear gas bombs, shocking hand grenades, and fragmentation hand grenades – everything was well-stocked.
Of course, the most striking figure in the lineup was the tallest security guard.
Judging by its appearance, it was likely some kind of Lizard Man or Half-Dragon species, displaying obvious reptilian characteristics.
Its attire was unique. Besides the standard black uniform and bulletproof vest, it didn’t wear the other security equipment.
Instead, it wielded a Roman Helmet on its head, with a Roman short sword and Roman shield in its hands.
It’s often said that the stranger the weapon, the faster one dies. Those elaborate weapons seen in old tales exist for a reason.
But that’s within the confines of physics-bound reality.
In the Metropolis, where Newton’s coffin could be pried open and nailed shut at any moment, being unconventional often equated to being extraordinarily powerful.
Otherwise, the pressures from leadership alone could crush you.
After all the security guards disembarked, a middle-aged man with a slightly plump physique, wearing a white shirt tucked into dress pants, leisurely stepped out of the vehicle.
Clearly, this was the property manager that the old guard had mentioned.
"Ahem."
He walked to the front of the assembled guards and then turned to face them.
"At the request of the property owner, we’ve simplified the process for this simulation exercise. All actions have one goal. Do you know what it is?"
The property manager asked.
"Showcase the property’s strength and demonstrate the security guards’ prowess."
The guards shouted in unison.
Their voices were loud and uniform, uplifting the collective morale.
"Exactly. And I have just one requirement for you all: treat this simulation as actual combat."
"No matter what unexpected situations arise during the exercise, act as if it’s real and handle them decisively."
"Should any issues arise, the company will fully back you up."
"Do you understand?"
The manager asked again.
"Understood!"
The loud response rang out once more.
"Very good. For this activity, I will personally serve as the overall commander, stationed at headquarters. Deputy Commander Yang Dali will act as the specific action leader."
"Yang Dali, step out!"
He called out.
"Yes!"
A guard with a face that resembled both a sheep and a human stepped forward from the lineup.
"The command is now yours."
The property manager said.
"Yes! Everyone, follow me."
Yang Dali waved his hoof-like hands and led the security guards in single file toward the apartment.
The guard resembling a Roman soldier glanced back at the tank but quickly joined the formation.
"That Kobold is interesting."
The driver commented suddenly.
"Kobold? Isn’t that a Lizard Head?"
Liu Zheng said, puzzled.
"Kobolds are actually Dragon Descendants. Although their dragon blood is exceedingly diluted, they still have significant potential."
"I once had an ancestral Kobold strategist under my command; it was quite skilled at nighttime assault tactics."
"As for why they’re called Kobolds – it’s because their cries sound like a dog’s bark."
The driver explained.
"Got it. So, what did you mean when you said it’s interesting?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Though it’s dressed like a soldier, I sensed the same magical aura from it as my strategist. So, it’s likely a Kobold magician."
"Also, look at its face and torso – they’re already quite close to resembling an actual dragon. This suggests that it’s an ancestral Kobold, though the degree of reverted traits isn’t as advanced as my strategist."
The driver explained again.
"I see. So its strength should be decent, right?"
"It won’t be bad."
The driver replied.
"That’s a relief."
Liu Zheng nodded.
The driver wasn’t just anybody – he was a heavy-hitter from the same era as the Red Ghost.
To get an evaluation of "not bad" from him suggested the Kobold’s capability was quite impressive.
"Then please wait for me a moment."
After speaking, Liu Zheng got out of the tank and headed toward the security room.
"What’s up, brother? I was just about to join the exercise."
The old guard opened the window and leaned out.
"Brother, do you know that Kobold?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"I know of it, but I don’t know it well. Heard the kid’s from the countryside, has a peculiar temperament. If it weren’t for its decent skills and the manager liking it, it would’ve been squeezed out long ago."
The old guard smirked.
"But of course, it’s not like I dislike rural folks. You, brother, for example, are like a Phoenix soaring out of a remote valley, admired wherever you go."
Realizing his words might have come off poorly, he quickly amended his statement.
"No problem, a hero is not judged by his origins. Both the countryside and the city have talented individuals and useless ones."
Liu Zheng replied.
"Exactly, that’s what I meant! You really have culture, brother – you know how to talk."
The old guard said with a smile.
"Brother, please help me pass a message to that Kobold. If it can put in some effort, I’ll make sure it’s well-rewarded. Whether it’s within the city or outside, I can make things happen."
Liu Zheng said.
"Alright, I’ll let it know later."
The old guard agreed cheerfully.
"Thank you, brother."
"Oh, don’t be so formal, we’re family, remember."
After closing the window, Liu Zheng returned to the tank.
"Let’s go back to Rose Street."
He told the driver.
"Finally, you’re back."
Seeing Liu Zheng approach, Doctor Nile remarked.
"What’s up?"
"Take a look above your head – you’ll understand."
Doctor Nile raised his index finger.
Looking up, Liu Zheng saw a dark flock of strange birds hovering over the French Plane Tree.
The birds vaguely resembled crows at first glance, but upon closer inspection, their heads were more like miniature vultures.
The edges of their wings were covered in smooth, scale-like short feathers, which looked razor-sharp.
"What’s going on? Are they after the Wood Elf Royal Family’s corpse as well?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Hard to say, but probably not. I think they’re here for a feast."
Doctor Nile said with a subtle expression.
"A feast? What are they eating?"
"Look over there – them."
Doctor Nile gestured toward the Fly humanoids.
The Fly humanoids had stopped their fluttering and were now clustered together, staring down the airborne flock.
The slight trembling of their bodies showed that they felt immense pressure from the birds.
"What? They dare eat the Sanitation Department’s temps?"
Liu Zheng exclaimed in surprise.
The driver had mentioned that Fly humanoids were on the protected list, meaning even if they weren’t citizens, one couldn’t just hunt them.
"Have you been so caught up in trading favors that you’ve gone clueless?"
Doctor Nile rolled his eyes.
"Identity matters only to intelligent beings. For creatures governed by instincts alone, your title as a temp for the Sanitation Department or as a deputy director of City Hall doesn’t mean much."
"To intimidate them, you’d need either sheer strength or an overwhelming aura."
Evidently, the strength and aura of the Fly humanoids weren’t enough to subdue the bird flock.
"Have they clashed already?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Not yet. The birds are patient, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. I’m worried about collateral damage to Dai Legao, so I haven’t ordered them to attack proactively."
Doctor Nile replied, shaking his head.
Responsible for safeguarding their divine being’s future protector, Doctor Nile had to tread cautiously.
"Buzz buzz buzz buzz!"
One Fly humanoid, noticing Liu Zheng’s return, buzzed in excitement as it flew over and started jabbering.
"Um... can someone please translate this for me?"
He said awkwardly.
