Chapter 570: Chapter 431 Red Ghost: Let me see what you’re capable of, Liu Zheng
"Then I’ll slaughter you first."
The Fisherman said without hesitation.
"Let’s just be done with it then."
Liu Zheng shrugged.
"If you could act like a strict father and raise the Sea Girl like a pet through discipline, then fine. But the key problem here is, you can’t even leave this place."
"Expecting a few harsh words and playing the part of a father to make an already independent adult daughter obey you? How’s that supposed to work?"
He paused and continued.
"So, what do you suggest?"
The Fisherman fell silent for a moment and said with a sullen face.
"Change your attitude. I’m not saying you need to treat your family like a warm spring breeze, but at least stop showing off that greasy, condescending demeanor of a pond owner. She’s your only family. She’s not one of your fish."
Liu Zheng said.
"I’ve always been like this. I don’t know how to change."
The Fisherman replied gloomily.
"In that case, you might want to talk to Doctor Nile. He’s an absolutely doting father to his daughter."
Maybe even a little excessive.
But it’s understandable since Sasha is mentally challenged. Treating someone with a condition like hers is similar to dealing with a child — it requires extra patience and gentleness.
As for someone like the Sea Girl, who’s grown up but still a bit rebellious, it’s best to combine your approach with Doctor Nile’s attitude.
"Got it."
The Fisherman smirked slightly.
"Alright, hand it over."
Liu Zheng extended a tentacle.
"Take it."
The Fisherman fished out a pale, spherical membrane from his pocket.
As soon as Liu Zheng took the membrane, the item description popped up immediately.
"Name: Frog Fish King’s Resonance Capsule (One-time use)"
"Type: Tool"
"Quality: Exquisite"
"Effect: Launches a powerful indiscriminate sonic wave attack upon use."
"Remark: Prohibited in public areas. Violators will face fines and imprisonment ranging from ten to one hundred years."
"Instance Exportability: Yes"
"Why don’t you throw in another piece for me?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"My stuff isn’t suitable for use in the city. And don’t use this thing directly either—use it while those bald monks are chanting; the effect will be phenomenal."
The Fisherman explained.
"Isn’t this an indiscriminate attack?"
"With your constitution, what’re you afraid of? Worst case, you’ll be deaf for a while. Our kind has reduced damage from attacks by aquatic creatures, so the Sea Girl should be fine."
The Fisherman elaborated.
"What about the Nightingale?"
"Not my concern."
The Fisherman looked up at the sky.
Oh, great. Protect your daughter while conveniently taking out Huang Mao, huh?
This wily old man has it all figured out, doesn’t he?
"Let me have some protection tools; I can’t guard the Sea Girl alone."
Liu Zheng reached out his tentacle again.
"Tch."
The Fisherman reluctantly handed him two pieces of Fish Skin.
"Roll them into balls and stuff them into your ears, that’ll do."
"Four ears, and you’re giving me two pieces of Fish Skin?"
Liu Zheng wondered if the Fisherman was bad at basic math.
"Don’t you not need them?"
"Hey, just because I heal quickly doesn’t mean you can treat me like I’m not human, okay?"
Liu Zheng protested.
"What part of you looks human anyway? Even I look more human than you do."
The Fisherman glanced at his tentacles and hooves dismissively.
"Ah, personal attacks, huh? Well then, find someone else who looks human to help you out."
Liu Zheng retorted unhappily.
"Threatening me won’t work. I only have these two pieces of Fish Skin left. I’ve already given you the Resonance Capsule; what good would keeping the Fish Skin do for me?"
"Tch. Hook me up with the sewer. I need to find the Red Ghost."
Seeing that the Fisherman wasn’t lying, Liu Zheng chose not to argue further.
"Day in, day out, you treat me like your personal pager."
The Fisherman grumbled as he reached into the Underwater River.
"Head forward."
A moment later, he said, eyes closed.
"Alright."
Liu Zheng walked straight ahead. After about fifty meters, a familiar secure door appeared in front of him.
As the valve slowly turned, the heavy secure door was pushed open.
The Red Ghost stood there, hands in the pockets of his coat, scrutinizing him.
"Ever since you arrived, the sewer has never been quiet."
The Red Ghost complained.
"Was the sewer ever truly quiet?"
Liu Zheng refused to take the blame.
With all the sewage and other foulness, how could it be quiet?
"At least it didn’t contact me this often."
"Well, you know what they say, ’Close neighbors are better than distant relatives.’ It doesn’t hurt to strengthen our bond under the same roof, right?"
He scratched his head and said.
"I don’t feel that way, and I’m sure it doesn’t either, and City Hall definitely doesn’t either."
If the Red Ghost and the sewer ever became best friends, City Hall would be the first to explode in rage.
"Haha, should we talk inside then?"
Liu Zheng chuckled nervously.
The Red Ghost gave him a glance, then stepped aside to let him in.
As the secure door closed, Liu Zheng suddenly felt a strange sense of relief wash over him.
"How does it feel to be stared down by the barrel of a gun?"
The Red Ghost suddenly asked.
"Debts don’t bother me, and lice don’t itch."
He shrugged.
"You’re a peculiar person."
The Red Ghost shook his head.
"Why do you say that?"
"You carry so much weight, yet you manage to keep such a peaceful state of mind. But I don’t sense any ambition or aspiration in you."
The Red Ghost said.
"I do have ambition."
"Survival isn’t ambition; it’s just instinct."
The Red Ghost replied.
"But to me, staying alive in Metropolis is already ambitious enough."
Liu Zheng said calmly.
"A ship without a Dragon Bone can only sail so far. Whether you choose to be a hero or a villain, eventually, you’ve got to pick a path."
"Let’s talk about that when I’ve satisfied my survival instincts. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs—haven’t even reached the second-lowest level yet."
He replied.
"For someone like you, step-by-step progression might not be realistic. Forget it. I’m already a sunken ship myself; I’m in no position to preach to you. Let’s move."
