Chapter 560: Chapter 426 Metropolis Edition of A Chinese Ghost Story

"Tree Demon."

The Tomb Guardian said.

"Huh?"

Liu Zheng wore an expression as if he’d seen a ghost.

"The Tree Demon is a kind of androgynous demon, relying on sucking the Yang energy from males..."

"No need for introductions, I know what that is."

He boldly interrupted the Tomb Guardian’s explanation.

"Hmm."

The Tomb Guardian didn’t seem offended.

If the French Plane Tree turned into a Tree Demon, then Natasha would become Nie Xiaoqian, and Wang Sheng would turn into Ning Caichen?

And what would the Legendary delivery man be? Yan Chixia or the Black Mountain Demon?

"Alright, looks like we have to abandon this plan after all."

Liu Zheng said regretfully.

With how pretentious the French Plane Tree acts, it would never agree to transform into something as monstrous as the Tree Demon.

Though, honestly, the way it hangs skeletons on its branches does kind of resemble a Tree Demon.

Even if it doesn’t choose to evolve into a Phoenix, it could still opt for becoming a Wood Elf.

Judging by the appearance of the Wood Elf, it’d be far more dignified as one compared to being a Tree Demon.

"Oh, right, there’s one more thing."

Liu Zheng said somewhat sheepishly.

"You’re getting on my nerves."

The Tomb Guardian said indifferently.

"The last thing, I promise."

He hurriedly replied.

"If this is not the last thing, today will be your last day."

The Tomb Guardian said calmly.

"Yes, yes, yes."

Liu Zheng wiped away nonexistent sweat from his brow.

Their conversation had gone so smoothly and the Tomb Guardian’s behavior was so abstract and detached that Liu Zheng momentarily forgot he was dealing with someone on the same level as Si Xue and the Peacock.

In fact, in a certain sense, the Tomb Guardian was even more terrifying than the others.

"I have a friend whose daughter encountered an issue during her transformation into a Mummy—it turned her into a fool."

"I heard there’s a plant in the cemetery that resembles a brain, capable of enhancing the intelligence of the Dead. My friend asked me to help get some."

Liu Zheng explained the situation.

"One hundred thousand."

The Tomb Guardian said after hearing him out.

"Alright."

He swiftly took out the money, placing it on the coffin lid.

The Tomb Guardian let out a whistle, and soon, a humanoid creature came sprinting toward them from the distance.

It had elastic, rubbery skin, hoof-like feet, a dog-like face, and long, feline claws that were razor-sharp.

Its body was covered in a crust of fungi, predominantly yellowish-brown and green, making it resemble a patient suffering from severe skin disease.

The creature stopped in front of Liu Zheng, its small yellow-green eyes gleaming with greed, drooling with a foul stench.

"Look at me like that again, and I’ll chop you up and dump you in the sewer for the fish to eat."

Liu Zheng said coldly.

After so many battles, he had developed a sort of intuitive sense of his enemies’ strength.

"malahe hadu wlaopq."

The humanoid creature mumbled a string of obscure words at him.

"I don’t understand whatever nonsense you’re spouting. Speak the common tongue!"

Liu Zheng retorted bluntly.

The creature’s greedy gaze shifted to contempt; it turned its head and ignored him.

"Hey, that attitude of mine—"

He was only holding back because he wasn’t sure of the creature’s connection to the Tomb Guardian, otherwise he would’ve torn out its vocal cords to see if it could manage human speech then.

"That’s ghoul language. It said you look delicious."

The Tomb Guardian translated.

"With all the collagen on it, I think it would make a pretty appetizing meal too. Can I kill it now, Tomb Guardian?"

Liu Zheng asked, drawing his Slaughter Knife.

"Not now. But if you join the cemetery’s registry, I can arrange for you two to duel."

The Tomb Guardian replied.

"Tch, then I’ll let it live for now."

He sheathed his knife.

Hell, joining the cemetery registry would mean becoming one of the Dead, wouldn’t it?

"Give him the item."

The Tomb Guardian didn’t linger on the topic and instead addressed the ghoul.

"As you command, noble protector of the Dead."

The ghoul responded respectfully, before clenching its claws into fists and pounding its swollen abdomen with force.

With each strike, its stomach didn’t shrink but instead grew larger and larger.

Eventually, its belly swelled to an absurd size, as though it were pregnant with octuplets. It finally stopped beating itself and began to gag violently.

Out from its gaping maw came nerve-like fleshy tendrils, followed by vein-like stems, and finally a flower bud resembling a human brain.

Once the bizarre plant fully emerged from its body, the ghoul’s belly deflated.

It bowed to the Tomb Guardian, shot another provocation-filled look at Liu Zheng, and then walked away.

"Just wait, someday I’ll turn you into dog meat hotpot."

Liu Zheng raised three tentacle-like fingers to show a middle finger.

"Give it to me."

The Tomb Guardian paid no attention to their conflict.

"Oh, alright."

Liu Zheng picked up the fleshy plant, and a description soon floated up.

"Name: Dead Brain (Single-use)"

"Type: Tool"

"Quality: Exquisite"

"Effect: Upon use, +5 to All Attributes, significantly increases intelligence. Only effective when the player is ’Dead.’"

"Note: Seriously, looking like this, someone still wants to eat me?"

"Instance-Exportable: Yes"

Naive. If its effect boosted testosterone, it wouldn’t matter if it looked ten times more disgusting than it does now.

He muttered sarcastically at the note while rolling up the Dead Brain and placing it atop the coffin.

The Tomb Guardian extended his hand to grab the Dead Brain, and orange flames flared from his palm, engulfing the plant.

Soon, the Dead Brain had burned to ashes, leaving only a walnut-like nut behind.
