Chapter 543: Prevent the audit, change it immediately_2
"What a hassle. Sometimes you’re bold enough to defy the heavens, and other times you’re timid as a mouse. I’ll give you a fifty percent markup—take it or leave it."
Si Xue had run out of patience.
"Deal!"
Liu Zheng said decisively.
Offending Amaterasu omikami might bring bad luck, but offending Si Xue was guaranteed to bring misfortune.
Besides, a fifty percent markup wasn’t low. No one else would accept it, let alone offer a markup.
"At least you know what’s good for you. So, what do you want?"
"I want the Wood Elf Royal corpse in the kitchen."
He stated.
"Fine. What else?"
"And..."
Liu Zheng hesitated after his initial excitement.
The excitement came from how quickly Si Xue agreed, while the hesitation stemmed from uncertainty about how much value was left to claim.
Si Xue wouldn’t intentionally trick him, but she also wouldn’t have the patience to let him test her limits repeatedly.
"I’d like one of those cosplay clothes."
After thinking for a long while, Liu Zheng finally said.
Although Si Xue probably had much better items, he was most familiar with the cosplay clothes’ effects, and their practical use was undeniable.
"Nope."
Si Xue shook her head.
"Is it not enough or just outright no?"
He tentatively asked.
"For you, there’s no difference between the two."
Si Xue replied.
"Alright then. Boss, I’ll leave it to you. I just want something with similar functionality to the cosplay clothes."
Liu Zheng said frankly.
"Alright, let me think."
Si Xue spun her teacup and sank into thought.
He mimicked her and began spinning his own teacup, saying nothing.
The awkward silence didn’t last long before Si Xue set her teacup down.
"Forget it, too lazy to think."
She casually gestured, and a fishing rod flew out of the lake, landing directly in her hand.
"You fish for it yourself. Whatever you catch depends on your ability."
She said.
"Boss, with my skills, even if I catch something good, I wouldn’t be able to hold onto it."
Liu Zheng said with a bitter smile.
"If it’s beyond your ability, I can help you. Otherwise, you’re on your own."
Si Xue replied.
"Can I save it for later?"
He asked expectantly.
The Lucky Clown Card hadn’t activated yet, and he hadn’t scored another Black Koi from the fisherman. On top of that, he hadn’t yet taken the elevator supposedly capable of improving luck with its female operator.
Fishing for treasures under such circumstances felt like a poor deal.
"You’re getting ahead of yourself."
Si Xue only had to glance at Liu Zheng, and all his desires instantly evaporated.
The phoenix-like flames dancing in her eyes seemed eternal, but her gaze on him felt colder than a thousand-year-old glacier.
"I wouldn’t dare."
He immediately stood up and bowed deeply.
"Your bowing technique is flawless, I’ll give you that."
Si Xue teased.
"Heh heh."
Liu Zheng scratched his head with a ingratiating smile.
"Alright, get fishing."
Si Xue waved her hand dismissively and suddenly pulled out a sweet potato from somewhere, placing it on the fire to roast.
"Got it."
He tentatively picked up the fishing rod, relieved to find it wasn’t heavy.
He glanced at Si Xue, but she was completely engrossed in rotating the sweet potato without acknowledging him.
"Alright then."
Liu Zheng shrugged.
At least he had secured the Wood Elf Royal corpse—his primary objective was complete.
Catching something good would be a huge win; catching nothing wouldn’t be much of a loss.
With that thought in mind, he casually cast the fishing rod without even checking the drop point, settling down cross-legged on the ground.
One second, two seconds, three seconds...
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
A full half-hour passed, and the float showed no signs of movement.
"Your luck is downright abysmal."
Even Si Xue couldn’t bear to watch anymore, walking over with the roasted sweet potato.
"Want some?"
She shook the sweet potato in front of him.
"Sure."
Liu Zheng nodded without hesitation.
"Not shy, are you? Here."
Si Xue used both hands to snap the sweet potato into two uneven but perfectly equal halves.
"Thanks, Boss."
He stretched out his hand to receive it, only for Si Xue to pull hers back.
"Nope, too generous for you."
Si Xue hesitated for a moment, then broke off another smaller piece from one half.
"Yeah, this much is enough for you."
She said, satisfied as she stared at the quarter-sized piece.
"Thanks, Boss. You’re magnanimous, truly."
Liu Zheng said sincerely.
He took the small sweet potato chunk and popped it into his mouth, skin and all.
He had to admit, Si Xue’s culinary skills were superb—the sweet potato was roasted to perfection.
He had no idea what kind this sweet potato was, but biting into it gave the sensation of enjoying a warm honey ice cream.
"Tasty?"
Si Xue asked suddenly.
"Delicious, better than my grandfather’s roasted ones."
Liu Zheng said earnestly.
He was, of course, referring to the old director of the orphanage.
Every season, the old director would roast sweet potatoes for the orphanage kids.
The well-behaved children got bigger pieces, while the naughty ones received smaller portions.
Academic performance naturally decided who was well-behaved or not.
The old director was incredibly stringent and authoritarian in this regard.
"A mere human, how could he compare to me?"
Si Xue scoffed.
Even as she said that, the faint smile tugging at her lips was unmistakable.
"You’re not going to catch anything with an empty hook today. Bait it."
She glanced at the float and said.
"What bait?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"If you want treasures, naturally you need treasures as bait. The better the bait, the better the treasures it attracts."
Si Xue explained.
"I see. So once a fish is caught, is the bait still there?"
"Of course not. You’ve already failed trying to get something for nothing. Now it’s time to accept that you have to risk a little to gain a lot."
Si Xue shook her head.
"Boss, your use of idioms is impeccable."
He seized the opportunity to flatter her.
"Is that even worth mentioning?"
"Got it."
