Chapter 541 - 416 Si Xue: You’ve Really Made Something of Yourself
Chapter 541: Chapter 416 Si Xue: You’ve Really Made Something of Yourself
It’s just a commission, isn’t it? I’ve handled loads of those.
The elevator seemed to struggle to describe it, remaining silent for quite some time.
Finally, from its speaker emerged a voice hoarse beyond belief.
"Clea... ning..."
The elevator spoke laboriously.
Only two words, yet it sounded like it had expelled two mountain ranges.
"Cleaning? Brother Elevator, do you need clean-up services?"
Liu Zheng pondered and said.
"Bang!"
The elevator didn’t speak, but gave a jolt instead.
"Does the restaurant lack janitors? Or are they refusing to clean for you? If it’s the former, just shake once; if it’s the latter, shake twice."
"Bang bang!"
The elevator trembled twice.
"That’s too cruel, isn’t it? Isn’t this outright workplace bullying?"
Liu Zheng voiced his indignation.
"Don’t worry, Brother Elevator, once I visit the boss, I’ll come back to clean for you myself."
He said.
Coincidentally, his blood-letting cleaning method was also unmatched.
"Bang bang!"
The elevator rejected Liu Zheng’s offer.
"Why not?"
He asked, confused.
"Pro... fess... ional..."
The elevator replied, struggling to speak.
"Ah, so you think I’m not professional enough."
Liu Zheng glanced around inside the elevator, indeed unable to find anything that seemed to need cleaning.
Looks like only a professional cleaner can spot those invisible stains.
"I do know a professional cleaner—pretty, kind-hearted, and diligent. Unfortunately, she isn’t a restaurant employee."
He shrugged and said.
Just as he finished speaking, another floor button fell to the ground.
"Brother Elevator, are you asking me to bring her in?"
Liu Zheng bent to pick up the button and sniffed its meaning.
"Bang!"
"But will that work? Outsiders shouldn’t be able to enter the restaurant, right?"
He doubted aloud.
"Not... out..."
The elevator replied.
"Brother Elevator means—it’s fine as long as she doesn’t leave the elevator?"
Liu Zheng interpreted.
"Bang!"
"Alright then, once I step out, I’ll get this arranged for you. Using the best cleaning supplies, I’ll have you spotless and sparkling."
He patted his chest and promised.
"Bang!"
The elevator jolted once, then suddenly began to ascend fiercely.
Its speed this time was nothing short of lightning-fast—Liu Zheng barely blinked before the elevator abruptly halted.
The elevator doors opened automatically, and a tremendous force slammed against his back.
Before he could react, the elevator ejected him like garbage being overturned.
"Wasn’t that a bit rushed?"
Liu Zheng climbed up from the ground and couldn’t help but grumble.
"Why? You’re not in a hurry?"
Si Xue’s voice drifted over from afar.
Liu Zheng raised his head to look—snowflakes fluttered over a vast expanse of lake.
Si Xue, clad in a wide-sleeved robe and wearing a silk headscarf, was brewing tea beside a stove in the Lake Heart Pavilion.
"Oh, I’m very much in a hurry! Just thinking about coming here to meet Your Majesty, hearing your wise teachings, thrills me to the point of urgency, anticipation—heartburning impatience."
He quickly plastered on a flattering expression.
"Really? I don’t see any heartburning impatience on you."
Si Xue smirked.
She pinched a tiny spark from the stove’s flames and flicked it toward Liu Zheng.
The speck of fire, smaller than a grain of rice, pierced through the snowstorm like an arrow and shot straight at him.
Liu Zheng dared not dodge; he couldn’t dodge. He let the spark pierce through his chest.
"Swish!"
His heart instantly transformed into a fireball, blazing fiercely in the frigid gale.
"Hmm, now you live up to your claims."
Si Xue nodded in satisfaction.
"As long as it pleases you, Boss. If it’s not enough, I could grow a few more hearts for you to burn."
Liu Zheng endured the fiery pain in his chest, forcing a twisted smile.
"Such a sharp tongue... No wonder Britain mentioned several times wanting to transfer you to the customer service department."
Si Xue said.
"Oh, that’s not necessary. I’m doing just fine in the delivery department; I don’t intend to switch positions at the moment."
He quickly replied.
Wasn’t introducing him to that rich lady in Britain supposed to turn the spotlight away from him? Why were they still after him?
"Damn it!"
He cursed internally.
"Heh."
Si Xue chuckled faintly, dropping the subject without further probing.
"Roll over."
She ordered.
"I... Boss, I can’t do that."
Liu Zheng glanced at the vast lake, looking troubled.
Without ice solidifying it, how was he supposed to roll?
"Useless creature."
Si Xue beckoned with her hand, and the falling snow rushed toward him.
With a clench of her fist, Liu Zheng was wrapped into a giant snowball.
"Hurry up."
She urged.
"Coming, coming."
Liu Zheng quickly extended four tentacle-like limbs, spinning himself like a top as he tumbled into the lake.
"Hiss!"
The moment he touched the water, he drew a sharp breath.
The lake water was even colder than the snow—easily thirty to forty degrees below freezing.
Such frigid temperatures, yet the water didn’t ice over, completely defying physical laws.
Considering it wasn’t likely actual water but something resembling water, it wasn’t all that surprising.
Liu Zheng flailed his tentacles, rolling himself all the way to the island at the lake’s center.
By the time he entered the pavilion, he was frozen blue, even growing long icicles from his nostrils.
"Bos... Boss... Did you summon me...?"
Liu Zheng stammered through chattering teeth.
"Pfft~"
Si Xue couldn’t resist laughing at his state.
Liu Zheng didn’t understand but cooperated with a stiff smile.
"You really do look like a walrus right now."
Si Xue pointed to the icicles hanging from his nose.
"But... but... don’t walruses have tusks coming from their mouths?"
Liu Zheng questioned hesitantly.
"If I say you look like one, you look like one. Do you have a problem with that?"
Si Xue’s expression turned cold.
"None. If you say I’m something, Boss, then that’s what I am."
A shiver ran down his spine, prompting rapid agreement.
"Hmph, seems your brain has frozen into uselessness."
Si Xue lifted a teacup and splashed its boiling contents onto him.
The scalding tea melted the snowball around him instantly.
"Hot! Hot! Hot! Hot!"
He shook his body vigorously, trying to shed the remaining snow and water.
Moments ago, he’d been frozen entirely blue; now, he was boiled red, resembling a freshly cooked lobster.
"Of all the people I’ve summoned, you’re consistently the most wretched,"
Si Xue mocked.
"Well, does that make you happy, Boss?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Happy? No. Amused? Perhaps slightly."
Si Xue thought aloud.
"That works too. Someone like you, Boss, holds such stature—I can’t do much for you. As long as I can bring you even a bit of amusement, I’ve repaid a fraction of the kindness you’ve shown me."
He said with a smile.
"I don’t believe I’ve shown you any kindness; it’s merely mutual exploitation."
Si Xue shook her head.
"It’s alright—if I believe there’s kindness, then there is."
Liu Zheng spoke earnestly.
"Arrogant humans. Still, I suppose you’ve earned a bit of that arrogance. Sit."
Si Xue gestured to the opposite side of the stove with her chin.
"Oh, I can remain standing."
He hesitated for a moment.
"I said sit. What? Are you about to get impatient again?"
Si Xue frowned.
"Then I’ll... I’ll sit for a moment."
Liu Zheng initially intended to stay formal but ultimately sat down, though only perched on the edge of his seat.
"I heard you went to Bathhouse Street?"
Si Xue asked.
"Yes, Boss. A friend’s relative was imprisoned, so they asked me to rescue them."
Liu Zheng responded honestly.
"You really are making progress."
Si Xue’s tone carried a trace of sentimentality.
"When I first met you, you were a weak, worthless pure human—not even worthy as kitchen stock."
"And now, in just a matter of days, you’ve stirred up numerous major events, even managing to settle grievances with Peacock."
"If it were only inside the city, that’d be understandable. But now people are asking you to handle issues outside city limits."
"Humans truly are a disturbing species."
She remarked with hidden meaning.
"It’s all thanks to Boss’s excellent leadership and the support of my colleagues in the restaurant."
Liu Zheng replied modestly.
"Speak for yourself. Don’t expect me or the restaurant to take fall for you."
Si Xue said expressionlessly.
"Hehe."
Embarrassed, he scratched his head, peeling off chunks of cooked skin as he did.
