Chapter 357: Chapter 327 Just Took Off the Pants and the Sheep is Gone_2
Player 3 said.
"Fine then. But looking at it this way, the Black Book should have been picked up by Player 4."
He said.
"Absolutely. But what can we do when Player 2, who is role-playing so fully and has such a reckless character, grabbed it before we could even react?"
Player 4 said with a load of resentment.
It was one thing for Player 2 to choose a reckless personality, but to top it off, they picked the damn attributes and skills with both strength and speed at grade A.
Nobody could have stopped him even if they had reacted in time, unless they simply killed him off.
But with such a primary damage dealer gone, saying goodbye to the level would mean also saying goodbye to clearing the game.
"Do we really have to take actions based on character personality?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Not necessarily. However, the more your actions and words align with your character, the higher the host’s evaluation of you is. If you take actions that match your character in key moments, you could even gain potential points."
Player 3 replied.
"Potential points?"
"You can think of it as an official cheater device, it can be used for a lot of things. Of course, the greatest use is to reroll dice."
Player 3 said.
"Got it."
He nodded.
Being able to reroll dice was indeed a cheater device.
After all, role-playing games are also known as dice simulators, no matter how well you roleplay, how awesome your deductions are, how reasonable your team’s division of labor is, you can’t beat the Dice Lady’s whims.
A critical failure resulting in a wipeout wasn’t uncommon in his experience with role-playing groups.
"So how do I know if I have any potential points?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"You can ask the host directly."
Player 4 replied.
"Host, how many potential points do I have?"
He asked.
"Player 2, you currently have 1 potential point."
The voice of the Dice Lady responded.
"Wasn’t it said that the original Player 2 was deeply engaged in role-playing? How come there’s only 1 potential point?"
Liu Zheng wondered.
"Because he was so into his role-playing, he recklessly used up all his potential points,"
Player 3 said coldly.
It was evident, he had a big grudge against the original Player 2.
"Ah ha ha, that really is, a fitting end."
Liu Zheng suspected that the original Player 2 wasn’t just role-playing, perhaps he was just as reckless in real life.
Player 3 was about to speak when a strip of light shone into the cabin, the cover to the upper deck had been opened.
"Get down."
Accompanied by a gruff voice, a ragged-looking child was thrown down into the cabin.
"Ouch!"
The child wailed.
"Shut up, make more noise and I’ll throw you to the sharks."
A pirate descended the ladder and threatened the child.
The child didn’t dare to cry out again, pitifully closing his mouth.
The pirate dragged the child to a corner near the stairs, then walked towards the four players.
As he approached, the players readied themselves to fight back if necessary.
"What might your name be, Captain?"
Liu Zheng suddenly asked.
"You mocking me, lad? I’m no captain, damn it."
The pirate glared.
"With your character and presence, it’s only a matter of time before you become a captain. If people like you can’t be captains, then being a pirate will soon come to an end."
He said with a beaming smile.
"Oh? You’ve heard of me?"
The pirate asked, half believing.
"I’m from a small place, I didn’t have the chance to hear about your great deeds. But I’ve heard the story of a great pirate. The pirate captain in it looked just like you."
Liu Zheng said.
"Let’s hear it then, and if you can’t tell it or make up nonsense, I’ll cut off your ears to accompany my drink,"
The pirate unsheathed his curved knife and threatened fiercely.
"No problem, you’re in for a treat. During the reign of Queen Anne, there was a pirate captain who roamed the Caribbean Sea, he went by the name of Jack Sparrow, and his beloved ship was called the Black Pearl..."
Liu Zheng recounted the plot of the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie in a concise and compact manner.
He had been quite fond of the series for a while, watching it over and over more than ten times, memorizing the dialogues and characters so well he could imitate their tone and demeanor almost perfectly.
And as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" story was inherently interesting, not only the pirate but also the other players were engrossed in his retelling.
"In the end, Captain Jack defeated the pirate Barbosa, reclaimed his beloved ship the Black Pearl, but his legendary voyages were just beginning. Cough cough."
Liu Zheng feigned a cough.
"Keep going, keep telling the story."
The pirate urged with his curved saber.
"I don’t remember the rest."
He shook his head.
"What?! Are you messing with me, boy?"
The pirate bellowed angrily.
Life at sea was inherently boring, and just when a captivating story came along, to hear it cut off at the most interesting part was like having the sheep dragged away and slaughtered by the cook just as you’d gotten your trousers off.
"I, a mere captive, wouldn’t dare to mess with you. It’s just that it’s been too long, and I’m too frightened to think straight, I’ve forgotten everything. Just give me a little time, and I’m sure I can remember."
Liu Zheng feigned fright as he spoke.
"Oh, so you were waiting here for me, huh."
The pirate wasn’t foolish and immediately understood the implication behind his words.
"You think I’ll let you go just for a story? Not a chance, unless you pay your own ransom."
He rolled his eyes as he spoke.
"If I had money, would I need to become an adventurer?"
Liu Zheng replied with a bitter smile.
"Then sit tight. You’d better remember the rest by the time I come back, or I’ll make you suffer."
The pirate sneered.
"There’s no need to wait for your personal visit, Captain. Just let me see the sea, and I should be able to remember."
He said with a smile.
"What do you mean?"
The pirate asked.
"Since I was young, I’ve yearned for the sea, especially to become a free pirate. It’s just that my home is too far from the sea, so I could only become an adventurer. Now that I have this opportunity to be on a pirate ship and have met a boss like you with such an impressive aura, it’s truly a blessing from the ocean."
"So, I want to join you, become a glorious pirate."
Liu Zheng said earnestly.
"Really? You mean that?"
The pirate was dubious.
"Of course. If I weren’t a lover of the sea, how could I know such a fascinating pirate story? Besides, I’ve actually done a lot of preparations for sailing, all theoretical, of course."
He recounted some knowledge he had acquired from movies and novels.
"Hmm, it does sound quite professional."
The pirate nodded appreciatively, some of the knowledge even being new to him.
"Of course, I won’t expect your help for nothing. Once I become a pirate, I’ll give you thirty percent of all my earnings."
Liu Zheng chuckled.
"Only thirty percent?"
"Then how much do you want?"
"At least fifty percent, and you’ll have to work for me too."
The pirate stated.
Working on a pirate ship meant more than just robbery; the everyday tasks were quite demanding as well.
"No problem, it would be my honor to work for a future great pirate."
He agreed without hesitation.
"You sure have a sweet mouth, boy. Actually, you don’t need to become a pirate. I could speak to the captain, and have you sold to those noble ladies as a Star Fury, you’d probably do quite well."
The pirate smiled as he said this.
"I’d much rather have those noble ladies as my Star Fury."
Liu Zheng chuckled.
"Heh heh heh."
The pirate also showed a lascivious grin.
"Now, stay put and don’t even think about escaping. You still have a chance if you’re sold to the slave traders, but if you try to escape and get caught, you’re as good as dead."
The pirate warned.
"Absolutely, I’ll heed your advice. So, about me becoming a pirate, what do you think?"
"I’ll go up and mention it, but don’t get your hopes up. Our captain has very strict standards when it comes to recruiting crew, and he probably won’t be impressed by someone with no sailing experience like you."
The pirate shook his head.
"Then I’ll rely on you to put in a good word for me, Captain."
Liu Zheng said humbly.
"I’ve told you, I’m not some captain."
"On any ship, you are my captain."
He said earnestly.
"Kid, you’re as sweet-talking as honey. Too bad, you’re just too ugly."
The pirate looked at his face and said with regret.
"Next to you, who could call themselves handsome?"
"That’s true, ha ha ha. But what about your friends if you become a pirate?"
The pirate pointed at the other three players with his curved saber.
"Them? Truth be told, I’m not close with them."
Liu Zheng gave a slight smile.
