Chapter 353: Chapter 325: Senior, I’m not very convenient today (Part 2)
Anyway, from the novelist’s tone, there didn’t seem to be any danger to his life.
"Hey, where are you?"
He made another call to Nightingale.
"At the board game hall. You called me first after coming back, huh? Mermaid is going to be jealous, you know."
Nightingale said with a teasing smile.
She deliberately didn’t clarify whether the Mermaid was jealous of her or Liu Zheng.
"Then you’re thinking too much, you’re the third one."
Liu Zheng’s tone was much more casual with her.
"Hmph, as long as it’s before that Little Bat."
Nightingale muttered.
"Hasn’t she grown back yet?"
Just thinking of Vampire Sister’s intellectually challenged child-like demeanor gave him a headache.
"You think everyone is like you, able to grow back even after being squeezed into juice."
Nightingale rolled her eyes on the other end of the phone.
Liu Zheng was at a loss for words, wishing he had brought back some superior blood for Vampire Sister to nourish herself.
Oh, but that wouldn’t work either, those guys’ blood seemed to have viruses in it.
If it caused an epidemic, City Hall surely wouldn’t let him off the hook.
"Alright, cut the chit-chat, I’ll be right over."
Liu Zheng said.
"Are you making us order takeout again?"
"No need, I took a day off."
Even if he hadn’t taken a day off, he wouldn’t dare let those three pauper sisters order anything.
If they ordered another potato dish, White Feather Chicken would definitely mince him into the mix.
"Oh, alright then, come over."
Nightingale said.
"Liu Zheng, I want coffee and dessert!"
Vampire Sister shouted from the side.
"That’s eating dessert."
Liu Zheng corrected.
"Liu Zheng, you bully! I’ll tell the boss and have her zap you!"
Vampire Sister shouted loudly.
"Alright, alright, ’drink’ dessert, ’drink’ dessert, is that okay now?"
He said helplessly, but there was a hint of a smile on his lips as he hung up the phone.
In reality, he was alone, but in this instance world, he had so many connections with people.
Although everyone was together out of self-interest and they could turn against each other at any time, at least at this moment, they were still friends.
But thinking of the 11th floor and Sunshine Pet Store, Liu Zheng’s smile faded again.
This world was still a non-human’s world, and Metropolis was a place that devoured people without spitting out their bones.
If he stayed in Metropolis, he would either have to change his principles, or sooner or later, he wouldn’t be able to stand this cursed place.
Neither option was what he wanted.
Liu Zheng shook his head and walked towards the board game hall.
Soon, he arrived at the entrance of Red Witch Board Game Hall.
From a distance, the Witch statue turned her head in his direction.
"Good morning, Your Witchness,"
Liu Zheng greeted her, though reluctantly.
"This is breakfast for you."
He took out the portion he had specifically set aside for the Red Witch.
The Witch lifted her chin slightly, and the paper bag floated up, flying to her feet.
She didn’t open the paper bag but continued to stare straight at Liu Zheng.
"Well, Your Witchness, I am in a hurry to deliver orders. I’ll quickly discuss some things with them and leave. Next time, I’ll definitely come by for board games when I’m free,"
he tried to bluff his way through.
The Witch rolled her eyes, and a cloud appeared above Liu Zheng’s head.
The next second, a downpour hit him, drenching his face and head.
"Really, Your Witchness, I definitely won’t let you down next time..."
Before he could finish his sentence, thunder crackled and lightning flashed within the cloud.
"I’ll play, I’ll play, is that okay now?"
Liu Zheng said with a wry smile.
The rain stopped, and a whirlwind sprang up from nowhere, sweeping him up.
This tornado was warm, and Witch’s triumphant laughter could be heard mixed with the wind.
By the time he landed, he was completely dry.
"Your Witchness, instead of running a board game hall, you might have a more promising future opening a laundry shop,"
Liu Zheng said half-seriously.
The Witch rolled her eyes again, and a powerful force struck his backside, kicking him through the door of the board game hall.
"Liu Zheng!"
Little Vampire girl flew over and hugged his head.
"Get down, get down, you’re a Vampire, not a facehugger."
Liu Zheng grabbed her and plucked her down to the carpet.
"Humph, Liu Zheng is a meanie! Meanie Liu Zheng, why didn’t the boss zap you this time?"
Little Vampire girl said discontentedly.
"I didn’t break any promises, why would I get struck by lightning?"
"Hmph, you must’ve promised to play board games with the boss."
Little Vampire girl exposed the truth.
"You know and still you ask. Where are Nightingale and Mermaid?"
He asked.
"Hehe, the two of them went to do something naughty in the bathroom,"
Little Vampire girl said with a mischievous laugh.
"What, they went to the bathroom to switch sanitary pads and didn’t let you eat them?"
Liu Zheng said with a sly grin.
"Liu Zheng, you’re disgusting!"
The little vampire girl stomped angrily on his hoof.
"You’ve managed to insult three people with just one sentence, which pretty much makes you one of the trash-talk champions of Metropolis."
The Nightingale and the Mermaid came out of the bathroom.
"Just average, really. I only let loose like that around you guys. I need more practice."
Liu Zheng said with false modesty.
"Then you better keep that mouth shut."
The Mermaid shot him a glare.
"Liu Zheng, have you resolved your issue?"
The little vampire girl asked, hugging his leg.
"Dumb bat, if it wasn’t resolved, do you think he’d be in the mood to be mouthing off with us here?"
The Nightingale knocked on her head as she spoke.
"Don’t knock on my head, corpse puppet!"
The little vampire girl flew into a rage, ready to bite the Nightingale.
"You three seem to have a pretty good relationship. They each have nicknames. What’s yours?"
Liu Zheng turned to the Mermaid.
"None of your business."
The Mermaid glared at him again.
"She’s the Stinky Salted Fish."
The little vampire girl shouted loudly.
"Stupid bat, seems like you’ve decided to stay short forever."
The Mermaid grabbed her by the legs and started shaking her upside down vigorously.
"Stinky Salted Fish, let go of me!"
The little vampire girl struggled furiously.
However, she was originally no match for the Mermaid in strength, and now that she was diminished in size, resistance was futile.
"Alright, alright, enough joking around, let’s get serious."
After enjoying the commotion for a while, Liu Zheng intervened.
"Humph, it’s all because you spoil them."
The Mermaid let go of the little vampire girl and threw her towards Liu Zheng.
"How’s that, Stinky Salted Fish? No one to spoil you, lu lu lu~"
The little vampire girl squatted on Liu Zheng’s head, making faces at the Mermaid.
"Okay, okay, quit gloating."
Liu Zheng plucked her down and stuffed a tentacle into her mouth.
"So, what’s up?"
The Nightingale asked.
"The Red Witch is dead set on making me help her with board games, so you guys need to think of something simple, quick, and safe for me,"
he said.
"There isn’t one. Our board game hall doesn’t have a game that fulfills all three of those criteria simultaneously,"
the Mermaid replied almost immediately.
"Then let’s go with something simple and safe. Keep the duration as short as possible, preferably not exceeding twelve hours,"
Liu Zheng said, resigned.
"Why is the Red Witch so insistent on making you play board games?"
The Nightingale inquired.
"How should I know?"
He shrugged.
"Probably because he played so well in Werewolf last time,"
the Mermaid suggested. After all, having worked there for so long, she guessed that a player’s outstanding performance would be beneficial to the Red Witch.
"If that’s the case, regular board games probably won’t suffice for the Red Witch’s standards. Even if you clear them, she’s likely not to let you go,"
The Nightingale commented.
"Then you guys find me a suitable one."
Liu Zheng slouched into the sofa, giving up.
After all, he still had a courier receipt in hand, so he could just ask the courier to take him out and then never return.
"Then let’s go with a role-playing game,"
the Mermaid suggested after some thought.
"How are role-playing games simple and safe?"
Liu Zheng knew about role-playing games, which are essentially the tabletop version of role-playing video games.
Or rather, the role-playing games were the precursor of the role-playing video game genre.
"That depends on who’s running it."
the Mermaid’s tone was suggestive.
"Isn’t that against the store’s rules?"
Liu Zheng caught the subtext in her words,
"You’re too confident in yourself, human."
The Mermaid chuckled.
Whatever had given this human the mistaken impression that she would take the risk of breaking the store’s rules for him?
"It’s not confidence in myself; it’s my trust in you."
Liu Zheng shook his head.
"Save your sweet talk for this dumb bat over here."
The Mermaid remained unmoved.
"Liu Zheng, hurry up and flatter me!"
The little vampire delightedly chimed in.
"Flatter your head. Keep talking."
He stuffed the little vampire’s mouth again and addressed the Mermaid.
"I have a group stuck in the middle of a campaign because a key character’s player died, which caused the campaign to be temporarily frozen. Moreover, since the difficulty of the instance is so high, no new players are willing to take over. If you join, I can give that key character directly to you,"
the Mermaid proposed.
"You just mentioned the difficulty is high, and now you want me to take on a key role?"
Liu Zheng was skeptical.
"It’s difficult for others, but right up your alley,"
The Mermaid smiled mysteriously.
