Chapter 294: Chapter 287 This can’t be for the Pajama Boy, right?
After Old Yate was burned down, the people of Yate established New Atlantis right beside it.
Under the auspices of the Church, the urban area of New Atlantis was larger, with more perfect city construction.
The most typical example was the more complex city transportation, with countless ladders and small passages arranged in every community or corner of the city.
People believed that Beasts could not climb these ladders and passages, thus protecting themselves.
Objectively, these arrangements did have the effect of guarding against Beasts, but they also caused quite a number of accidents every year.
As for which was greater in number, the Blood Healing Church had not done any relevant statistics.
Another typical case was the sewer of New Atlantis.
Compared with the nearly medieval standard of living here, the construction of New Atlantis’s sewer had reached a modern level, so immense that it could almost be used as an underground shelter.
Of course, that was indeed one of the original purposes of its design.
However, after so many years of use, the sewer had completely turned into a dumping ground.
Perhaps some corners were still cleaned out by people to hide in, but more areas had become gathering places for those with Beastification Disease and mutated animals.
During "Pale Night," even Hunters dared not enter the sewer.
On one hand, there was no need, and on the other hand, they didn’t know what kind of monstrosities had been bred in the sewer over the years.
Yet, at the moment, three distinct individuals were standing at the entrance to the sewer.
One wore a Church Hunter’s uniform, another sported a hoodie and sweatpants, and the third was clad in a vest and draped in a Dragon Robe.
The woman in the Hunter’s uniform had a rigid expression, the man in the hoodie looked sleazy, and only the man in the Dragon Robe was handsome and dashing, with an extraordinary demeanor.
These three people were naturally Liu Zheng and his two followers, Xia Kai and Andrina.
"What’s this ingredient?"
He asked.
"A set of innards from a cannibal wild boar. You also specifically noted not to clean them."
Andrina replied.
Her memory was quite remarkable, memorizing the list provided by Liu Zheng in a short time.
"Really?"
Liu Zheng checked the procurement list.
"Indeed. This isn’t for that pyjama boy, is it?"
He twitched at the corner of his eye.
Just thinking about the last time he had intestine soup made his stomach ache a bit.
He wondered if the intestines of this cannibal wild boar would be flavorful enough to satisfy that taste-twisted chap.
"Speaking of which, if you all knew there was a cannibal wild boar here, why didn’t you send someone to clean it up?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"The Church always has a shortage of hands. For mutated animals like cannibal wild boars, with lower threats, cleanup has a lower priority."
Andrina explained.
"Eating people and still not a big threat?"
"Mr. Delivery Man, which of the Beasts wandering the streets doesn’t eat people?"
Andrina countered.
"You have a point, I’ve got nothing to say to that. Let’s go."
Liu Zheng led the way down the ladder into the sewer.
The sewer was very dim, lit only by moonlight shining through some reserved holes.
"Mr. Delivery Man, do you need lighting? If we light the lantern, it may attract the attention of creatures in the sewer."
Andrina reminded him.
"That’s perfect, light it up."
He nodded.
"As you command."
With more sincerity in her voice than before, Andrina respectfully said.
No matter which Hunter saw Liu Zheng mow down those terrible monsters as if they were mere vegetables, they would all respect such a powerful figure.
Not to mention, his handling of the monster corpses was even more professional than that of a real Hunter.
With a scraping sound, a faint flicker of light appeared in the darkness.
Then, a fire as large as a human head flared up, illuminating the area around the three.
"Your lanterns are pretty intense."
Liu Zheng’s eyes were empty as he spoke.
Looking at the intensity of the flames, it seemed enough to roast a whole sheep.
"Because Beasts fear fire, Yate’s research in the field of flames is quite profound,"
Andrina took his scoffing as a compliment.
"Be careful not to play with fire and get burned."
Liu Zheng said meaningfully and then moved forward.
The further they went, the stronger the stench became.
However, compared to the Metropolis sewers filled with countless chemical or occult waste, the stench of the Yate sewers was much less intense.
But the Yate sewers had their own characteristic smell, one that resembled the stench of rotten blood.
"Damn!"
Xia Kai exclaimed.
"What?"
Liu Zheng asked impatiently.
"Boss, look over there."
Xia Kai pointed toward a shadowy area.
Liu Zheng followed where he was pointing and saw several bizarre creatures staring at them with eyes like spoiled egg yolks.
In appearance, they resembled rats, but they were much larger than normal rats, as big as a human head.
Their bodies were covered in dense fur that was not fluffy like that of cats or dogs but had a hard, smooth quality like metal.
What was even more terrifying were their limbs, which were deformed human-like palms.
"Just a few rats, what’s there to fear?"
Liu Zheng said without concern.
Ugly and weird, their combat capability must be nothing much to speak of.
Compared to the creatures in the Metropolis sewers, even the Skinning Monsters had a sort of muscular beauty.
Xia Kai didn’t dare to talk back, just gave him a resentful look.
Who else would be as nonchalant as you, staying calm even when being gutted.
It was only out of regard for the dignity as a player that he hadn’t freaked out and run away facing such sanity-draining creatures.
"Is it on the list?"
Liu Zheng turned his head and asked Andrina.
"No."
The Female Hunter shook her head.
"Then consider yourselves lucky, scram."
He raised his boning knife toward the rat-like creatures with human hands.
The rat-like creatures seemed to understand as they scurried deeper into the shadows, their tails full of lumpy protrusions tucked between their legs.
As they ran, they made chirping and chattering noises that echoed through the sewer.
"They aren’t calling for reinforcements, are they?"
Xia Kai asked worriedly.
"If they are, that would be perfect. It would save me the trouble of looking for the cannibal wild boars."
Liu Zheng said carelessly.
"Boss is right,"
Xia Kai nodded vigorously.
Feeling the other’s overt confidence, the apprehension he had felt since entering the instance calmed.
He knew that as a player he should be independent and strong, but being led by someone was indeed a great feeling.
It was like when he played League of Legends in college; initially, he wanted to climb ranks on his own, but after being carried by a roommate who was a ranked master once, he couldn’t go back to solo queue.
Continuing forward, the stench of rotten blood grew stronger.
At the same time, the proportion of the smell of corpses also increased.
"Hold the lantern up higher,"
Liu Zheng suddenly said.
Andrina did as instructed and lifted the lantern high, the raging flames illuminating the area in front of them.
A small mountain made of corpses appeared before them.
Several people, their clothes corroded by corpse fluids and covered in filth, were trapped within the pile of bodies, reaching out their hands and opening their mouths toward them as if pleading for help.
