Chapter 196: Chapter 196 Confessing Too Quickly Leads to Punishment (Seeking Monthly Pass at Month’s End)
The Tiger King Tank continued to advance, and as they moved forward, the trees became lusher, and the sounds of insects grew more intense.
It seemed that these insects had no intention of avoiding them, perhaps having abandoned not only their humanity but also their intelligence.
"8 o’clock."
Driver Dimitri shouted.
Liu Zheng quickly adjusted the periscope, and a group of huge insects came into his view.
They were feasting on a shattered corpse which looked like a male white-collar worker.
Some were eating limbs, some the torso, some the viscera, but the face, drawn in a simple sketch style, lay on the ground, its exaggerated expression of horror ignored by the insects.
Captain Maria looked at Liu Zheng, and he nodded.
"Drive over."
She ordered.
The tank drove straight through the jungle, breaking and crushing smaller trees without any need to avoid them.
Soon, the tank was within just over two hundred meters of the swarm of insects.
Then, suddenly, the insects began to act strangely.
But instead of fleeing or attacking, they all threw away the parts they hadn’t finished eating and pounced on the face lying on the ground.
It turned out that this face was the real pièce de résistance.
Unfortunately, Liu Zheng did not plan to let them feast, and he was about to flip their table over."Fire, and if any survive, it’s just their tough luck."
He said to Captain Maria.
"Load the fragmentation shell, fire!"
Captain Maria immediately commanded.
Loader Kasichen grabbed a shell with a red tip and stuffed it into the cannon.
This was a tank-specific high-explosive fragmentation shell, with both explosive and fragmentation effects, used to destroy field fortifications, kill enemy troops, and engage lightly armored targets.
Gunner Kolobanov had already locked onto the target during the loading process, and as soon as the shell was in place, he immediately pulled the firing mechanism.
The thundering cannon roared again, and the red fragmentation shell blasted the face stricken with terror like a meteor.
A flash of flame, a powerful shockwave, and high temperatures brought peace to the poor man and also became his offering.
Countless high-speed metal streams instantly turned the surrounding insects into a hive of bullet holes, while the subsequent shockwave tore their already scarred bodies to shreds.
"Cease fire, continue advance."
Captain Maria assessed the situation and then said.
The performance of this Tiger King Tank and the power of its shells exceeded her expectations. Just how much modification had that remnant of the Guard Army done to it?
Did he still want to mount a counteroffensive?
The problem was, even if he wanted to mount a counteroffensive, there was no one left; they were all dead.
Maria shook her head, no longer considering the thoughts of that aesthetic-challenged Germanic, and focused intently on commanding the battle.
"Huh? There’s an unexpected find."
As they approached, Liu Zheng said in surprise.
Among the heap of broken insect corpses, there was a pitch-black cockroach twitching.
Its carapace and wings were crushed to a pulp, its antennae were severed at the root, incidentally taking away a quarter of its head, and of its six legs, only one remained.
But it was still alive, and it seemed fiercely tenacious.
Next to the black cockroach was an even larger beetle, which had been completely blasted to pieces.
It must have been only because it stood in front, that the Black cockroach was able to save half its life.
"Not bad at all. Comrade Maria, please help keep watch while I go and capture it,"
Liu Zheng said.
"Comrade Commander, it would be safer for you to stay inside the cabin. Comrade Kasichen, you go drag that pest in."
Captain Maria denied his request.
"All right then."
Liu Zheng shrugged his shoulders.
He believed in the judgment of professionals; doubting those you employ is not his policy, and employing those you doubt isn’t either.
The loader Kasichen silently nodded and then climbed out of the tank after opening the hatch.
He agilely jumped off the roof of the vehicle and quickly stepped beside the Black cockroach.
The Black cockroach made a menacing hiss at him, but Kasichen was unfazed and directly reached for its head.
The Black cockroach opened its mandibles and fiercely snapped at Kasichen’s fingers.
Kasichen showed a stern smile and then threw a punch.
His steel fist, as tough as his will, directly broke the Black cockroach’s mandibles, which got lodged in its own mouthparts.
The warrior who once spurred a global frenzy, even with just a sliver of a remaining soul, was not something a mere pest could challenge.
Kasichen twisted the head of the Black cockroach and dragged it into the tank cabin.
After a series of heavy blows, the Black cockroach also sobered up from its extreme instincts, regaining part of its human form.
One remaining small eye looked left and right; in its gaze was both ferocity and fear.
"You’re very lucky to have survived such firepower,"
Liu Zheng also noted this and spoke.
"But your luck is also bad, because I’ve said before, those who survive are just unlucky."
"Now tell me, where are the janitor Xiao Mei and Chen Xiaoxue? If you speak quickly and clearly enough, I might consider giving you a happy death."
"Why are you looking for them?"
The Black cockroach asked, rolling its eyeball.
"Can’t you tell? I’m here to deliver takeout,"
Liu Zheng pointed at the Legendary Armor he was wearing.
"We didn’t stop you from delivering takeout, you shouldn’t have attacked us. If you let me go, I can pretend this all never happened. If you continue down this misguided path, my company will naturally lodge a complaint with the City Hall,"
The Black cockroach said with a hint of anger.
True to form for an executive, it quickly started reasoning logically and clearly.
Unfortunately, Liu Zheng had no intention of reasoning with it.
If reasoning worked, what would he need such big fists for?
"Who says you didn’t stop me. All you bugs swarmed together and completely blocked my route,"
Liu Zheng said, justified in his claim.
"Huh."
The Black cockroach let out a mocking sound.
"Looks like you have a tough bone, not even the grenade blast broke it. But that’s fine, I don’t want you to die too easily anyway."
He smiled and pulled out a boning knife.
"Make sure to hold on; I wouldn’t be happy if you confess too quickly."
He swung the boning knife, slicing open the remaining carapace on the Black cockroach’s back, then extended a tentacle into it.
"Ah!"
Accompanying the return of humanity was the sense of pain; an unexpected agony struck, and the Black cockroach let out a piercing scream.
"What the hell, you scared me."
Liu Zheng patted his chest, looking as if he had been frightened.
"So little resilience, I will have to punish you."
Clutching the knife handle, he stirred inside the Black cockroach’s body.
Stuff that could either be muscle or internal organs was churned into mush, which he then picked out and fed into the Black cockroach’s mouth.
"Tasty, isn’t it?"
Liu Zheng asked curiously.
"Doing this... is... against the rules."
The Black cockroach said in fits and starts.
"It seems it’s not tasty. No matter, I’ll heat it up for you."
He consoled while unscrewing a machine gun bullet casing and poured all the gunpowder into the Black cockroach’s insides.
After pouring the gunpowder from ten bullets, he lit his lighter.
The dazzling flame forced Liu Zheng to squint, and he couldn’t help but tear up from the corners of his eyes.
The unpleasant smell of gunpowder filled the entire cabin, which was fortunate that Liu Zheng was the only crew member with a sense of smell left.
As for the Black cockroach, it no longer had the strength to concern itself with smells.
The agony of the gunpowder burning inside it unrelentingly seized its brain, had it been able to faint, it would have passed out long ago.
Unfortunately, this insect’s shell lacked a pain protection mechanism, so it had to fully accept this generous gift.
"How about now? Is it tasty this time?"
Liu Zheng asked, cutting another piece of charred mush and stuffing it into its mouth.
The Black cockroach no longer had the strength to protest, and even with its strong vitality, this ordeal had nearly brought it to death’s door.
"Still no good, huh? I’ll try again. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you enjoy a delicious ’execution meal’ today."
Liu Zheng said sincerely.
"Stop torturing me, I’ll talk,"
The Black cockroach managed to say weakly.
"Actually, you could choose not to talk. Doesn’t your company provide a generous pension for brave warriors like you who would rather die than yield?"
He tried to persuade the Black cockroach to endure a bit longer.
"Bullshit. Even if there were a pension, that damn woman would take it to keep her toy boy."
Suddenly gaining a bit of energy when mentioning the pension, the Black cockroach cursed loudly.
"Alright then, speak."
Liu Zheng looked regretfully casual.
Seeing his expression, the Black cockroach shivered.
When did the Bloody Restaurant start employing such a sadistic delivery man?
"The newly-arrived Xiao Mei is in that direction. As for Chen Xiaoxue..."
The Black cockroach hesitated for a moment.
Liu Zheng’s eyes immediately lit up, and he hugged a bundle of bullets.
"She’s in the hive,"
The Black cockroach said immediately.
"Hmph. Where’s the hive?"
He asked.
"In the heart of the jungle, just keep heading in that direction."
The Black cockroach pointed with its head.
One in the northeast, and the other in the southwest—exact opposites.
After a brief moment of thought, Liu Zheng made his decision.
To first rescue the janitor.
After all, Chen Xiaoxue had survived for eight years; she could wait a little longer.
"Can you let me go? I have money."
The Black cockroach tentatively said.
"How much?"
"One hundred thousand, no, two hundred—no, five hundred thousand!"
The Black cockroach continually raised the offer, observing Liu Zheng’s expressions.
"One million, that’s all I have. Or give me some time, I’ll sell my fixed assets and round up the amount for you,"
The Black cockroach said resolutely.
Once a promise was made, the payment was obligatory.
Even for an executive like it, this was a major blow.
But as long as the bug was alive, it could always make the money back.
Once it returned to its office, it had a thousand ways to bedevil this damned delivery man.
"One million, huh? What an enticing figure. Hold on a moment."
Liu Zheng took out an old-fashioned DV camera from the delivery box, a gift from Red Ghost.
"Hello kids, I’m your, um, electrician uncle. Today’s show is called ’Cannon Shooting Mosquitoes,’ I hope you like it."
He spoke to the camera with a vibrant enthusiasm, like a children’s television host.
"No, please no!"
The Black cockroach screamed with its last bit of strength.
Then, it couldn’t scream anymore, because Liu Zheng had stuffed it into the cannon’s breech.
"Let the show begin."
Liu Zheng said.
The loader, Kasichen, nodded, pushing a slightly thinner shell into the breech, forcing the Black cockroach forward.
"Just a moment."
He raised the DV camera and poked out of the hatch, then waved a tentacle.
"Boom!"
A loud noise echoed as the shell soared towards the sky, trailing countless fragments and liquid along its path.
"The appetizer is over, kids. Now, electrician uncle will take you to the main course."
Liu Zheng flashed a brilliant smile at the camera.
