Chapter 496: Goodbyes and new beginnings

"You’re here again? Did you find anything useful this time,’’ she asks me as she makes way for me to enter her house. I walk in because I have never been this determined in my life. Seeing Jabi and being able to feel him was all the courage I needed.

It was the one thing that gave me the strength that I have to keep fighting, to keep hoping and knowing that he is okay, even though he is somewhere out there, is everything.

"Use me, I will be the map,’’ I walk into the living room and she follows me.

Her brows furrow in confusion "I have never used a person before. It is not possible,’’ she shakes her head in refusal.

"Listen to me, I will be the map," I say with absolute conviction.

"You will be the map," she says with a slight smile, as she looks at me through those brown eyes.

"I will be the map," I say again, this time with more confidence.

She nods, as she looks at me thoughtfully.

"Ok, we will see", she is clearly confused and reluctant.

"I saw him today, he is on an island, somewhere. If he still found a way to reach out to me, then there must be a part of him that is still inside me. We have to use that part that is still inside me, to find him.

I smile because, in my head, this is the only solution to this whole thing. Amber is the best bet because she is the only one that can give me an exact location. She is the only one that can find him.

"I have never done it like this before,’’ she sighs and then runs her fingers through her hair. Tonight, it is down over her shoulders and messy.

"It can work, just because you haven’t done it, doesn’t mean it is not possible."

She nods "I know that," I watch her closely. She is obviously getting used to the idea.

"We have to find him," I say, so softly that it sounds like a whisper.

"Ok," she nods. "So we will find him," she stands up and I watch her walk out of the room.

She stands there for a moment, in the doorway, looking back at me. I watch her leave and she returns a couple of minutes later with a bag in her hand.

"Here it is," she says as she hands me the bag I open it up and see the map and the pen. "We are going to try this and if it actually works, you will be able to draw it out clearly with the pen.’’

It is an old fashioned map, it is a map of the good part of the world. I take a deep breath because this has to work.

I have no other option. At this point, I am not sure how much more I can take. I have to believe that this is the only way to get him back, to try my best to find him.

"Will I be able to control it?" I ask nervously as I stare at the map.

She nods "Yes, I believe you should be able to control it."

"How will we know if it’s working?"

"If we find him, then we will be able to feel him. We will be able to feel him because it will connect to you through me. Wherever he is, you will be able to feel him.’’

She walks over until she is at the back of me, now I can’t see her but I feel her touch as she reaches for me. Her touch is cold but I close my eyes so that I don’t focus on it. I feel a flash of light as it hits me and for a second, it feels like I blackout.

I lose sense of time, I lose sense of the situation.

"Darrien".

Amber is calling me.

I open my eyes. I feel my body.

I feel my arms, I feel my legs, but I feel nothing else around me.

"Darrien" she whispers.

I blink, I feel the breeze and I look around me. I am in a living room seated on the couch. The map is in front of me, I was supposed to locate him and from the writings on the map, I see that it worked.

I jump up immediately and she smiles "Good job," she says as she hands me the pen.

I take it and I get up quickly. I am elated, I am so elated, and I have found him.

I walk towards the map, I look at the directions. "It’s on an island," I say as I stare at it. This is not far from here, I just need a plane and then a boat. Things that are accessible to me.

I need to get to Jabi as promised and now I know where he is. He is on a private island somewhere in the Bahamas. I walk towards the door, and we will go for a boat ride.

I am going to get him back. I am going to get him back. I stop because I know that I can’t just leave her like this. I don’t know if this is goodbye but somehow, it feels very wrong.

"You don’t have to say anything. I am glad you found him,’’ she smiles and it all seems weird. Amber was never this supportive, she was demanding, so this is weird for me. I just can’t believe that she is just going to let me go like that.

I don’t even have the time to figure out what her catch is because I need to find Jabi.

"I don’t want to end things the way we did in the past. Once this is settled, I will come back and we can talk."

She nods and I walk out of her house with the map.
