It would have been easier going back to the house. I mean they are coming to the community; werewolf turf and I don’t know how this is going to turn out. I mean, they were here the last time. Eli and Elu are used to the community. They have spent a lot of time here, so I don’t have a problem with them and Darrien. Darrien is with Jabi. A part of him belongs here.

The only person I am worried about is Belis. My relationship with Belis is mostly cordial. He hasn’t had much to say about me leaving home and ending up with a wolf. He has never really been a problem. He usually liked to stay out of everyone’s business and I think that is why I haven’t really had any issues with him. Belis is going to be coming today with Father and the rest of the family.

I don’t know how to impress them.

"You need to calm down, breathe a little,’’ Beau tries to soothe me into calming down but this is like the fourth time I have adjusted all the plates on the dining table. Father doesn’t care for food, so dinner is mainly just pretending and blood. I mean, I still have to make everything perfect.

"I am calm,’ I manage.

He laughs and walks up to me "I know you more than anyone on this earth, so you can’t lie to me.’’

I sigh "They are late, what if they aren’t coming?’’

He shrugs "Then fuck em’.’’

I open my eyes wide "No, I want them to show up. This has to happen. For the union to be complete,’’ I explain to him how I have been feeling. The thing is, I have completely given myself to Beau and this pregnancy is a step further to our future. We are both different kinds. This is something that wasn’t even supposed to happen but us coming together is just the deities saying that love is all that matters. It doesn’t matter that I am a vampire and he is a wolf. I know it is going to take a long time for the supernatural world to fully accept this but the first step is my family, accepting my new family.

"Our union is fucking complete,’’ he says deadpan.

"This is not just about the mating ritual and the pregnancy. We are still an abnormality. In the eyes of people on the outside. This thing is still not normal. I want to make it normal."

"Normal is overrated."

I smile. Beau has no care in the world. our relationship is all that matters to him but to make a change, we have to face the world. we have to show them that this is not a problem. Our union is accepted by the gods and that is all I want.

Beau grabs my hands in his. "You are just overthinking this, I want you to close your eyes and take a deep breath, forget about all the things that could go wrong, and focus on the fact that your father is willingly coming here,’’ I obey him and close my eyes immediately. he is right. There are a lot of good things that I need to focus on. Things are going so well for me and I am appreciative. "Now, take a deep breath,’’ he breathes into my ear.

I breathe in.

"Now, out.’’

I do exactly as he asks.

I hear the footsteps before the door even opens and I am sure Beau hears it too "They are here, are you ready?’’ he asks me. I open my eyes and he has a smile on his face. I nod, letting go of him. one of the guards on duty tonight walks in, behind him, Cranwell smiles as he stands there.

"Son,’’ he walks to me and the smile on his face is sincere. He really wants to be here and this means the world to me. I lose all focus in this second, I can’t even focus on the other people in the room. I only care about Father having a good time today.

"I didn’t think you were going to come,’’ the little kid in me comes out. I can’t help but show this part of me. the vulnerability pours out of me.

"Belis got home from work a little too late. He is to blame,’’ he smiles and I deviate my attention to the rest of the people in the room. Eligio and Elu are the first ones I see. Eligio winks at me. He is happy about this as much as I am. Belis and his mate Drusilla are here too. Darrien is the only one missing and I know he is going to show up. he is the only one that I expected to be late.

"My bad,’’ he waves to me, so uninterested in being here. I don’t really have high expectations for him. Belis is the most isolated one out of us, he is the oldest and somehow, he feels the need to be the most responsible.

Because of that, he has completely withdrawn from all of us. it is not like we have a bad relationship. My relationship with Darrien was worse than the one I have with Belis. Let’s just say I barely have a relationship with him. I think that sounds better.

"Cranwell, thank you for coming,’’ Beau speaks up, helping me diffuse the situation and getting me out of my head.

"Thank you for having me,’’ father responds.

"Where is your brother?’’ Cranwell directs the question at me.

I take a deep breath "He will be here; let’s all sit down.’’ I lead them to the table and they all take their seats. I watch the scene in front of me, once they are all seated and my heart melts. I am nervous right now but I already know that things are going to end well.

As long as I get through the night.
